ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Design Engineer at TASSCO, you will lead the design and execution of custom-engineered bulk material handling systems and components for abrasive environments. This role combines deep technical expertise in material flow, structural design, and wear mitigation with a hands-on, project-driven approach. You’ll own projects from concept to final implementation—ensuring system reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.


You will collaborate closely with sales, operations, manufacturing, and field teams while leveraging tools such as AutoCAD Inventor and discrete element modeling (DEM) to optimize performance. Your designs will directly contribute to the success of capital and MRO projects across industries including mining, aggregates, power generation, and heavy industrial.


LOCATION: Birmingham, Alabama. Office hours: 7:30-4:30pm.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead engineering design of custom bulk material handling systems including transfer chutes, towers, supports, and liners
  • Apply DEM software and simulation data to enhance material flow and reduce wear
  • Create detailed design packages including 3D models, BOMs, stress calculations, and manufacturing notes
  • Specify structural reinforcements, wear-resistant materials, and overlay/fabrication techniques
  • Interface with CNC, plasma cutting, forming, and welding processes to ensure manufacturability
  • Coordinate closely with sales, estimating, shop, and field service teams throughout the design cycle
  • Review customer bid packages and translate specifications into actionable engineering plans
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight on drafting, design standards, and QA processes

SUCCESS METRICS

First 3 Months: Learn TASSCO’s design standards, ERP workflows, materials, and key systems. Support ongoing projects with AutoCAD 3D layouts and fabrication drawings. Begin conducting DEM model reviews and participating in site visits

First 6 Months: Independently lead small-to-mid-size design projects and generate full drawing packages. Perform structural calculations and specify reinforcement and wear treatments. Incorporate DEM results into optimized designs and complete at least one full system

First Year: Deliver multiple large-scale designs with high accuracy and manufacturability. Lead capital and MRO project design scopes from concept to implementation. Mentor team members and propose improvements in materials or processes for performance gains


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.

Experience:

  • 8–10 years of engineering experience in mechanical or structural design, ideally within custom steel fabrication or heavy industrial systems.
  • Proven background designing bulk material handling systems or other engineered-to-order capital equipment.

Certifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a strong plus but not required.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Inventor and 3D modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with discrete element modeling (DEM) software for flow simulation.
  • Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques (e.g., overlay, hard-facing), CNC processes, and manufacturing constraints.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install, configure, operate, maintain, and repair television studio production and broadcast systems, including cameras, video switchers, audio consoles, routing systems, intercoms, monitoring, and lighting control equipment Provide technical support for live and recorded studio productions, ensuring system readiness and on-air reliability Monitor studio systems during broadcasts to identify and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively Perform preventative maintenance and routine system testing to minimize service disruptions Assist with engineering projects including system upgrades, technology refreshes, and new equipment deployments Maintain accurate technical documentation, including system configurations, signal flow diagrams, and maintenance records Partner with Production, News, Operations, and IT teams to support operational requirements and workflow efficiencies Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, company engineering standards, and workplace safety policies Support training efforts for operational and production staff as needed Assist with transmitter maintenance Participate in on-call rotations and provide support during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required Required Skills and Qualifications Associate’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of 3 years of experience in television broadcast engineering or studio technical operations Working knowledge of broadcast video and audio systems, including SDI and IP-based workflows Experience supporting studio production equipment such as cameras, switchers, audio consoles, and intercom systems Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a live production environment Understanding of signal flow, RF fundamentals, and basic networking concepts Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with IP-based broadcast technologies (e.g., SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, AES67) Familiarity with newsroom systems, automation, and production workflows Experience supporting live news, sports, or special event productions FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) and/or SBE certification (CBTE, CBT, or equivalent) Knowledge of broadcast facility design and systems integration Physical and Work Requirements Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to work in technical environments including equipment racks, control rooms, and elevated work areas Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays Sinclair is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and a drug free workplace.

SUMMARY

Provides leadership as a primary project interface for DMC projects from project assignment through completion. The position is responsible for customer satisfaction, project management, and coordination of multiple moving parts for the installation of products and services within customer’s project teams in multiple states. This person is the face of to clients and contractors, serving a challenging and critical function within the Company, with significant opportunity for growth. This job requires travel to project locations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Management of an entire project or series of projects, including safety, quality, budget, and schedule.

2. Management of project launch and planning in collaboration with teams across the organization.

3. Management of multiple projects with different team structures, including self-perform, trade partners, and general contractor partners.

Management of client relations, correspondence, periodic reports, change orders and response to client & customer inquiries.
Development of assistant project management personnel through mentoring and on-the-job training.
6. Ensure project is closed out promptly and efficiently.

7. Daily communication and coordination with Design, Manufacturing, and Construction teams.

8. Coordination with internal departments including shipping, logistics, and self-perform.

9. Project financials and change management

10. Responsible for communication and coordination with client project management.

11. Collaborate with jobsite team for planning site logistics for permanent jobsite installations and module delivery and setting.

12. Collaborate with jobsite team for efficient management of site facilities and general conditions cost.

13. Responsible for documenting and communicating lessons learned into continuous improvement processes.

14. Manage relationships with customers, internal team, subcontractors, and local authorities.
