This Grinding Set-Up Operator/Machinist will primarily set-up and operate CNC cylindrical (O.D) grinders (e.g. Kellenberger, Studer, etc.) to produce high precision parts made from a variety of materials. In this role, you will ensure that all manufactured parts are in full compliance with quality standards and customer specifications. This role is for 1st or 2nd shift. 1st shift is 7am-3:30. 2nd shift is 3:00 - 11:30pmThis role is 100% in office at our plant in East Hartford, CT.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

The setup and operation of CNC cylindrical grinders (e.g. Kellenberger, Studer, Jones & Shipman, Hauser, Clausing, etc.) Working from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers or other specifications, this person sets-up and completes the machining operations to produce high precision parts.Performs complex setups including fixturing, wheel selection, and dressing, for self and others. Operates equipment as needed. Creates CNC programs on the machine and edits programs as necessary. Selects grinding wheels, tooling, gages, and other equipment as needed. Assists other Operators with setup or production problems. Ensures that all manufactured parts are in full compliance with quality standards. Uses measuring instruments and gages to perform dimensional and visual inspections on close tolerance parts.Performs all routine maintenance on the equipment. • Review open purchasing and shop part requirements. Review regularly with internal suppliers and purchasing. Coordinate and expedite deliveries as required.
  
• Perform visual, dimensional and functional inspection using variable measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers and checking fixtures.
  
• Mix and apply bonding agents, coatings and chemicals.
  
• Check calibration of gages, instruments and equipment in accordance with established procedures. Record and document as required.
  
• Prepare test pieces and micros using equipment such as grinders, cutters, sanders, polishers and mounting presses.
  
• Sharpen or modify tools, make up simple forming dies, tooling and templates.
  
• Perform periodic maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating fixtures and equipment, adding fluids, charging filters and tightening hardware.

The Final Inspection Apprentice position is primarily responsible for inspecting and recording dimensions of aerospace components per process sheets, Inspection reports, Blueprints and applicable specifications utilizing specified gages and methods to ensure the quality requirements are met prior to presenting the final aerospace component to the customers.

Description

Removes burrs and sharp edges or excess material from metal components including contouring certain edges and features.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Removes excess metal and surface defects from aerospace hardware or machined surfaces using pneumatic or hand held abrasive wheels or belted grinding equipment.
  
• Uses abrasive belt or wheel according to customer specifications or type of finish specified, product being polished, or amount of metal to be removed, using knowledge of polishing operations and abrasives. Monitors abrasive wheel or belt for wear.
  
• Operates polisher, grinder, or deburring tools and removes metal and surface defects or contours edges of components based on specifications of blue-prints or work instructions.
  
• Inspects work for acceptability of finish. Moves finished components to next work station for further processing.
  
• Performs other work as assigned by the supervisor.
  

Position Requirements

• Ability to lift or transfer components or objects of no more than 50 pounds.
• Understand and follow written and oral instructions in English and possess basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and assist in tooling and process development.
• Considerable ability to use a variety of hand and pneumatic tools.
• Ability to use precision hand held measuring devices, i.e., micrometer, vernier, go/no-go gauges, etc.
• Ability to use fine motor skills to manipulate small tools and perform meticulous work to close tolerances.
• Proficiently interacts with other employees and possess good interpersonal skills.

Education & Experience Required:

• High School diploma or GED
• 5+ years deburring experience or similar work involving fine polishing, grinding or contouring of metal parts in a manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace.

Working Conditions:

Light industrial work setting. Job involves lifting up to 50lbs. in a manufacturing environment that may occasionally require the employee to work in a number of awkward positions.

Description

In the aerospace industry, a Program Manager serves as the central bridge between design engineering and full-scale manufacturing. This role is high impact, requiring a strategic thinker who can navigate complex technical requirements and rigorous regulatory standards to ensure products are optimized for both scalability and efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

• 
  
• Project Lifecycle Leadership: Own the execution of new products from initial design handoff through prototyping, pilot builds, and final transition to production.
  
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead integrated teams across engineering, supply chain, quality, and finance to ensure alignment of program goals.
  
• Resource & Budget Management: Work with cross functional groups to develop end-to-end manufacturing plans, including detailed schedules, resource allocation, and budget oversight to maintain project costs within 5-10% of estimates.
  
• Risk & Change Mitigation: Proactively identify delivery risks, manage engineering changes through disciplined configuration control, and develop contingency plans for roadblocks.
  
• Operational Readiness: Ensure manufacturing systems, tooling, and supply chains are ready for high-volume production, including making critical "make/buy" decisions.
  
• Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for customers, providing regular status updates on milestones, KPIs, and delivery performance.
  

Required Qualifications

• 
  
• Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Aerospace), Business Management, or Operations Management is typically required.
  
• Experience: At least 3-7 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing or a similar fast-paced engineering environment.
  
• Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is frequently preferred or required to demonstrate formal methodology expertise.
  
• Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., precision machining, assembly), ERP/MRP systems, and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools.
  
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Aerospace Quality & Compliance standards (such as AS9100 or FAA regulations) is often essential.

Description

The Lean Specialist will drive operational excellence by identifying, analyzing, and eliminating waste across business processes. This role involves leading cross-functional teams, implementing Lean methodologies (such as 5S, Kaizen, VSM), and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to enhance productivity, quality, and cost savings.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  
• Process Improvement: Lead, facilitate, and support Lean Six Sigma projects and Kaizen events to streamline operations, reduce defects, and improve flow.
  
• Value Stream Mapping (VSM): Conduct detailed VSM to analyze current state, map future state, and identify inefficiencies (waste).
  
• Training & Coaching: Provide coaching and training to staff on Lean tools, principles, and standard work to embed a continuous improvement mindset.
  
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize data-driven insights and statistical tools to measure KPI improvements, tracking savings and results for senior management.
  
• Standardization: Implement and sustain 5S, Kanban, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent, efficient performance.
  
• Gemba Walks: Perform regular Gemba walks to identify abnormalities, support employees on the shop floor, and identify improvement opportunities.
  
  

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Lean Expertise: Deep understanding of Lean principles, Six Sigma methodologies, Kaizen, and waste reduction techniques (8 Wastes).
  
• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data sets to identify trends, root causes, and solutions, with proficiency in tools like Excel, Minitab, or Visio.
  
• Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
