Candidate Profile

The Director of Manufacturing will have a proven track record of success leading manufacturing activities. This key position requires a minimum of 10 years of manufacturing leadership experience in a job shop manufacturing environment. The Director of Manufacturing must possess an understanding and passion for developing people. The preferred candidate will possess an understanding of medical and defense industry standards for how PCBA interconnect flex circuits and Thermofoil heating solutions are produced. An undergraduate degree, ideally with a technical or business management focus (e.g. Manufacturing Management, Engineering, Business Administration) is required; an advanced degree is desired.


Qualified candidates will possess a strong operations and manufacturing background with a broad understanding of customer relations, product specifications, and market conditions that affect competitiveness when dealing with engineered products. Experience managing production within a Quality Management System, holding certifications (QMAS, ISO, NadCap, IPC, etc.), and having a proven track record of leading Lean manufacturing improvements, implementing and sustaining 5S, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, and Cell Manufacturing. NetSuite (or broad ERP) experience is a significant plus, along with a proven ability to manage resources and schedules within the system.

We are seeking a detail-oriented, driven Estimator to join our team in San Diego. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping our project pipeline by preparing accurate cost estimates, collaborating with internal teams and external partners, and contributing to our reputation for excellence and reliability. You’ll build lasting relationships, support multi-discipline commercial projects, and help ensure our proposals match our high standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, cost models, and bid reviews for commercial construction projects including office, industrial, financial-institution, and biotech lab builds.
  • Collaborate closely with project leadership, operations, engineering, and subcontractors to gather complete scope, clarify design intent, and identify risk or value-engineering opportunities.
  • Manage solicitation of subcontractor bids and supplier quotes, evaluate proposals and incorporate into cost estimate.
  • Develop bid packages, addenda, cost summaries, and final proposal documents.
  • Work with the pre-construction team to schedule estimates, reviews, and delivery of proposals in accordance with our pipeline and reputation for responsiveness.
  • Ensure accuracy of cost assumptions, escalation, contingencies, and liaise with senior leadership to validate bottom-line numbers.
  • Participate in post-bid analysis, lessons-learned sessions, and continuous improvement of estimating processes, tools and relationships with owners/architects/engineers.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction (office buildings, industrial, biotech labs, financial institutions strongly preferred).
  • Excellent proficiency in take-off software and cost estimating tools; familiarity with Bluebeam, Revit/AutoCAD plans, Excel, and construction cost databases.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills; proven ability to develop clear cost models, risk assessments and value-engineering recommendations.
  • Experience soliciting and evaluating subcontractor/supplier quotes and integrating them into a comprehensive bid package.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents (drawings, specifications, addenda) and work cross-functionally with project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to meet bid deadlines—strong time-management, prioritization and communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills—capable of building strong relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

As the SHE Senior Manager at dsm-firmenich’s New Ulm site, you will lead and continuously improve our Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) along with Security programs across manufacturing, office, and laboratory environments. You’ll be the site’s primary contact for all safety and environmental matters, security, ensuring regulatory compliance, fostering a culture of safety, and driving operational excellence.

Your key responsibilities

  • Oversee, develop, and continuously improve SHE and Security programs for the New Ulm site, including hands-on support, program implementation, training, and organizing monthly meetings and inspections, including providing 24/7 emergency response support for facility operations and safety/security events.
  • Lead site SHE audits and environmental programs to assure compliance and drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OSHA, and FSSC 22000 standards, and implement dsm-firmenich’s SHE policies and procedures across all site activities.
  • Manage regulatory compliance for hazardous materials, hazardous waste (chemical and biological), wastewater, and DOT regulations (local, state, and federal); interface with regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Record and analyze injury and safety data, report metrics to management, and propose actions to foster positive trends and mitigate risks.
  • Support line management and promote a culture of safety in manufacturing, office, and laboratory settings.
  • Guide and ensure compliance for safe work permitting processes (e.g., hot-work, lock-out/tag-out/try-out, work at height, ergonomics, hazardous materials), including writing, issuing, and auditing permits.

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. Salary $129,000-$164,000.
