Controls Engineer
Grand Rapids, MI
Position Summary
We are seeking a Controls Engineer with strong Siemens PLC experience who can step into an active automation project and contribute immediately. This role works closely with Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, and Sales to design, program, and support control systems for bulk material handling equipment and integrated automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and support Siemens PLC and HMI systems
- Design electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
- Support FAT, troubleshooting, and system testing
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and electrical codes
- Assist with documentation and continuous improvement efforts
Current Project Overview:
- Programming phase is underway at 45–50 hours per week (Monday–Friday)
- Approximately 2–3 weeks of programming remaining
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) begins the week of February 23 and is expected to last about 3 weeks with the customer onsite
- Equipment commissioning is expected to begin around June
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Hands-on Siemens PLC experience (required)

- Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECR's) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO's).
- Ensure design change impacts to cost, quality, emissions, and timing are evaluated and communicated.
- Lead Validation, APQP & Launch Support
- Lead engine sub-system related APQP activities including DFMEA, PFMEA, SCAAFS, Control Plans etc.
- Support DV/PV testing: durability, thermal, NVH, performance, and emissions.
- Coordinate prototype, mule, and pre-production engine builds.
- Support PPAP readiness and launch activities
- Ensure Quality, Compliance & perform Risk Management

Qualifications

Position Overview
The Head of Programs for leading the office of programs consisting of the team responsible to implement projects from inception through the entire lifecycle. The Head of programs establishes the methodology and standardize processes to manage project and program data utilize in planning, execution, and delivery of defense-related projects from concept development through the entire product life cycle. This role oversees the individuals leading the implementation of projects. This person ensures cross-functional accountability to schedule, cost, technical, and quality performance while maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional teams. The Head of Programs will provide process direction, monitor and develop project managers and work closely with engineering, manufacturing, finance, quality, and supply chain groups ensuring program success in a dynamic, small-company environment.
Key Responsibilities
Establish Standardized Program Management System
* Develop methods, procedures, tools, and data sharing necessary to meet program lifecycle objectives
* Assure project management continuity across all programs. Facilitate clear communication to stakeholders and oversee the planning coordination between departments.
Program Leadership & Execution
* Lead all phases of program management including planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and execution.
* Develop and maintain detailed program plans, Integrated Master Schedules (IMS), and performance metrics.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

* Monitor engineering and manufacturing progress, resolving issues that impact cost, schedule, or performance.
Risk Management & Compliance
* Manage the risk management process on programs.
* Assure issues are addressed in a timely manner.
* Ensure compliance with ITAR, export controls, security requirements, and company policies on all programs.
* Support internal and external audits as needed.

Mobile Engineer:
What this job involves –
Operates, inspects, and maintains all HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and production equipment and systems in assigned facilities to obtain most efficient operating results and life expectancy. Assures that equipment is being maintained in an energy efficient, safe manner and down time is reduced to a minimum by anticipation of necessary repairs keeping records of past operating experiences. Performs inspections and repairs to assigned property interior and exterior areas, including walls and flooring, installed fixtures, roofing systems, lighting, etc. Strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing facility equipment on all HVAC/R systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in HVAC and refrigeration and be multi skilled in electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Material Handling Equipment and others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments.
What is your day to day?
- Performance of ongoing preventive and repair response work orders on facility mechanical, electrical and other installed systems, equipment, and other components.
- Maintain, operate, and repair all HVAC/R systems and associated equipment, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, building interior/exterior repair, and related grounds, and production equipment as it pertains to assigned buildings.
- Study and become familiar with the various items of equipment, and the methods required to use them properly, that are required in everyday activities.
- Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on as found conditions impacting satisfactory client occupancy and operations.
- Submit P-card Receipts Daily
- Update work order status in real time
- Utilize CMMS systems such as Corrigo for all work performed.

Required Qualifications:
- Universal CFC recovery certification (or within 90 days of employment)
- Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering with a strong background in the technical aspects of HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, production equipment repair and maintenance. Knowledge of overall system design and applications.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining commercial refrigeration and/or supermarket refrigeration.

Responsibilities
Information Professional Officers (IPOs) oversee the seamless operation of the global Naval network environment. Their responsibilities include:
- Leading the Naval network warfare missions in developing tactics and procedures to realize tactical, strategic and business advantages afloat and ashore
- Driving interoperability with joint, allied and coalition partners
- Building professional excellence through education, training and certification and milestone qualifications
- Optimizing organizational effectiveness through cutting-edge technologies, knowledge management techniques and a culture of innovation
- Helping to develop and deploy information systems, command and control and space systems
- Serving as a key part of the Information Dominance Corps in its mission to gain a deep understanding of the inner workings of adversaries
- Overseeing the work of Information Systems Technicians - Enlisted Sailors (no degree required) who serve as specialists in information technology
Work Environment
Information Professionals serve in challenging roles of increasing scope and responsibility both afloat and ashore. This could include:
- Serving as part of Battle Group staffs on ships at sea
- Working in C4I/Space/Surveillance on shore tours
- Serving on major Navy and joint staffs
- Serving in command of key communication and surveillance facilities around the globe
Training & Advancement
Those pursuing an Information Professional Officer position are required to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, RI.
Upon completion, candidates typically attend a five-week IP Basic Course of instruction in Pensacola, FL, before or during their initial assignment. IPOs must complete specific qualifications as part of their training during Fleet tours and are expected to pursue advanced education opportunities.
Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.

Specialized training received and work experience gained in the course of service can lead to valuable credentialing and occupational opportunities in related fields in the civilian sector.
Education Opportunities

Beyond professional credentials and certifications, Information Professional Officers can advance their education by:
- Pursuing opportunities at institutions such as Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) or Navy War College (NWC)
- Completing Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) at one of the various service colleges
Postgraduate education is important to the success of the Information Professional. Most IPs will complete a master's degree in C4I, space, information systems, computer science or modeling and simulation.
There's also potential to pursue a graduate certificate, DoW certifications, federal executive fellowships and information assurance scholarships and internships.
Qualifications & Requirements
A degree from a four-year college or university is a minimum educational requirement to become a Commissioned Officer. Candidates seeking an Information Professional Officer position must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a technical field, preferably in one of following fields: Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Operations, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, General Engineering.
All candidates must also be: U.S. citizens, willing to serve worldwide, eligible for a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance and qualified for sea duty.
General qualifications may vary depending upon whether you're currently serving, whether you've served before or whether you've never served before.
Part-Time Opportunities
There are part-time opportunities available as an Information Professional Officer.
Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Sailor, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Information Professional Officers in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
For annual training, Information Professional Officers may serve anywhere in the world, whether on a ship at sea or at bases and installations on shore.

Most of what you do in the Navy Reserve is considered training. The basic Navy Reserve commitment involves training a minimum of one weekend a month (referred to as drilling) and two weeks a year (referred to as Annual Training) - or the equivalent of that.
Information Professional Officers in the Navy Reserve serve in an Officer role. Before receiving the ongoing professional training that comes with this job, initial training requirements must first be met.
For current or former Navy Officers (NAVET): Prior experience satisfies the initial leadership training requirement - so you will not need to go through Officer Training again.
Officers who previously held a commission in another United States Military Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Public Health Service, or United States Coast Guard are exempt from attending ODS or LDO/CWO Academy.
