Role Summary

The Automation Engineering Technician is a key technical expert responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of automated solutions within Asurion’s Supply Chain network. This role bridges the gap between high-level engineering design and daily operational execution. You will ensure that automated systems—including robotics, vision systems, and conveyance—operate at peak efficiency to drive productivity, reduce costs, and support New Product Introductions (NPI).


Key Responsibilities

Technical Operations & Maintenance

  • System Upkeep: Execute general maintenance, fabrication (jigs/tooling), and repairs on automated equipment to ensure safety, and maximum up time.
  • Preventive Care: Research OEM manuals to develop and execute Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks, calibrations, and ESD checks in compliance with QMS and safety standards.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on key metrics such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Units Per Hour (UPH), availability, and yield.
  • NPI Support: Participate in the installation, relocation, and testing of new hardware and software deployments.

Engineering Support & Process Improvement

  • Troubleshooting: Lead root cause analysis and Level 3 technical support for complex system malfunctions, escalating to senior engineering staff when necessary.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process enhancements, utilizing data to influence decision-making and operational strategy.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain high-quality engineering reports, Work Instructions (WI), Job Aids (JA), and FMEA documentation.
  • Operational Readiness: Support Automation Engineers in developing business cases, tracking CAPEX/OPEX spend, and validating projected savings.

Management & Coordination

  • Inventory Control: Manage maintenance spare parts inventory (min/max levels) and oversee the organization of work areas using 5S methodologies.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a liaison between internal teams (IT, Operations, Quality) and external vendors to resolve technical issues and manage project timelines.
  • Training: Facilitate knowledge transfer by training operators and other technicians on new equipment and updated safety protocols.


Qualifications & Skills

Education/Experience Minimum

  • Associate degree in engineering or 2+ years of hands-on experience implementing automated solutions in a manufacturing or supply chain environment.

Technical Proficiency

  • Practical knowledge of PLCs, robotics, vision systems, and conveyance.
  • Experience with QMS, 5S, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Advanced skills in CAD, 2D and or 3D, MS Office (Excel & PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical documents and legal/financial reports.
  • Ability to work independently while fostering cross-functional collaboration.
  • A "bias for action" with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, multi-requestor environment.

Summary:

Project Managers lead Project Teams in the successful completion of construction projects, from the initial hand-off from Estimating through final completion and close-out. PMs are responsible for overall project planning and scheduling, resource allocation, project accounting, and control, while providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with quality standards and applicable laws and regulations. Five Key Roles of the Project Manager:

  • Collaborating with the Lead Project Manager to help lead and develop the Project Management Team

Summary: The responsibilities of the Senior Maintenance Technician will be distributed broadly across several functional areas supported by Engineering. Primary Responsibilities:


  • Meet Facilities quarterly performance metrics targets and departmental goals.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on process equipment, conveyor systems and building equipment.
  • Performs Installation and startup of mechanical and/or electrical equipment and systems.
  • Identification of spare parts, highlighting critical spare parts, and maintaining efficient inventory levels of spare parts.
  • Completion of service ticket requests and work order assignments production equipment and some building equipment.
  • Perform repairs on mechanical equipment, conveyor systems, electrical systems and controls, including SATO printers, Stream feeder inserters and box erecting/sealing equipment.
  • Work directly with Plant Facilities Management and Asurion IT Department to execute changes, moves and/or expansions of departments and workspaces.
  • Assist Supervisor/Manager with managing vendors, holding them accountable for work requested.
  • Installation of pneumatic piping, tubing, actuators, valves, and pneumatic systems as well as electrical conduit, wiring and controls.
  • Overtime and/or extended work hours will be required to include on call.
  • Observe all applicable safe job practices and fully comply with Asurion Safety Policy.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.
  • Responsible for programming, repairing, and maintaining automated machinery or computer systems. In charge of testing and troubleshooting automated systems to ensure smooth process flow and understanding.
  • Performing system diagnostics and troubleshooting.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associates degree or Post-Secondary Technical School preferred.
  • 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a technical machine repair function, that includes machine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing of high-speed packaging equipment, and highly automated equipment and production lines.
  • Detail oriented individual with good organizational skills, and proven ability to initiate priorities based on general guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks within established deadlines.
  • Intermediate level of knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic PLC experience, including Allen Bradley RS Logix, Control Logix or similar software for troubleshooting of PLC controlled systems.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical power transmission, gearing, sheaves, shafts and bearings.

  • Working knowledge of 120/208 single phase vac electric power distribution and circuits; basic knowledge of 480 vac 3 Phase power distribution and transformers.
  • Working knowledge of motors and motor controls including 3 phase and single-phase AC motors, DC stepper motors, 3 phase motor starters and AC variable frequency drives.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatics including actuators, valves, and pneumatic print interpretation.
  • Read and interpret mechanical design and machine drawings, electrical design drawings and wiring schematics.
  • Safe practices using basic machine shop equipment: drill press, band saw, grinders, belt sanders.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA general industry regulations on electrical safety (lockout/tag out).
  • Welding experience-SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, Oxy/Acetylene Cutting.
  • Safely operate forklifts to move equipment and related components.
