Chief Civil Earthwork Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

POSITION SUMMARY:

• The Civil Earthwork Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil projects, including mass excavations with shoring, site development, and large-scale grading operations. This role requires a deep understanding of production rates, equipment utilization, and civil construction practices

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review project plans, specifications, and geotechnical data to prepare complete and accurate earthwork estimates
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for excavation, embankment, mass haul, subgrade preparation, and related work
• Analyze production rates, cycle times, haul distances, and optimize equipment spreads for efficiency
• Develop detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
• Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
• Prepare comprehensive bid packages and proposals for public and private sector clients (DOT, Caltrans, municipal, and infrastructure)
• Collaborate with operations, field supervision, and project management to ensure bid accuracy and feasibility
• Use estimating tools such as Agtek, HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, and internal cost databases
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and constructability reviews

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)
• Experience: Minimum 10 years of estimating experience in heavy civil earthwork and infrastructure projects
• Strong knowledge of mass grading, haul planning, cut/fill balancing, and soil classification
• Proficient in reading and interpreting civil and structural drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports
• Hands-on experience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, and Bluebeam Revu
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple bids under tight deadline

POSITION SUMMARY:

• The Civil Earthwork Estimator will support the Chief Estimator in preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid proposals for heavy civil projects, including excavation, grading, and site development work. This entry-level role is ideal for someone early in their construction career who is eager to learn estimating fundamentals and grow within the organization

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Chief Estimator in reviewing project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
• Perform basic quantity takeoffs for excavation, grading, and related civil work under supervision
• Help collect and organize pricing information for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
• Support the preparation of bid packages, proposals, and related documentations
• Assist in obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors and maintain pricing logs

Education:

• Equivalent field or internship experience also considered.

Experience:

• At least 2-3 years of experience in construction estimating, project engineering, field engineering, or a related role
• Internship or co-op experience in civil construction is a plus

Skills:

• Basic understanding of civil construction, excavation, or grading operations
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans (training provided)
• Familiarity with estimating or construction software (HCSS, Agtek, Bluebeam) is a plus but not required
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and willingness to learn

The Internal Identity & Access Management (I2AM) team is responsible for critical production infrastructure that provides a foundational notion of Identity and strong authentication and authorization controls across Pinterest. The Content Understanding team builds machine learning models that "read" Pinterest content-images, text, and video-to produce high-quality semantic signals (e.g., embeddings, localization, quality/safety labels). These signals power relevance and retrieval for Homefeed, Search, Related Pins, and Ads, and also support integrity use cases like spam and low-quality detection. We work end-to-end: from data and labeling strategy, to model training and evaluation, to low-latency serving and monitoring at Pinterest scale. The role is ideal for a senior modeler who also enjoys developing, productionizing models and leading technical direction across teams.

What you'll do:

• 
  
• Lead modeling strategy for content understanding (vision, NLP, multimodal), including architecture selection, training approach, and evaluation methodology.
  
• Design and ship production models that generate content signals such as embeddings and classifications used across multiple product surfaces.
  
• Own the full ML lifecycle: data/labeling strategy (human labels + weak supervision), training pipelines, offline evaluation, online experimentation, deployment, and monitoring/retraining.
  
• Partner with infra/platform teams to ensure scalable, reliable training/serving (latency, cost, observability, rollout safety).
  
• Collaborate with signal-consuming teams (ranking, retrieval, integrity, ads) to define signal contracts, adoption patterns, and success metrics.
  
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring, and raising the quality bar for modeling and ML engineering practices.
  

What we're looking for:

• 
  
• M.S/ PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics or related field.
  
• Significant industry experience building software and ML pipelines/systems, including technical leadership (project/tech lead or equivalent).
  
• Strong proficiency in Python and at least one ML stack such as PyTorch / TensorFlow, plus solid software engineering fundamentals.
  
• Proven experience training and deploying ML models to production, including model versioning, rollouts, monitoring, and retraining strategies.
  
• Deep hands-on experience in content understanding domains, such as:
  
  • 
    
  • computer vision (classification, detection, representation learning),
    
  • NLP (text classification, entity/topic modeling),
    
  • multimodal / embedding models (e.g., transformer-based representations).
    
  
  
• Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed compute (e.g., Spark-like ecosystems, distributed training, GPU environments).
  
• Strong applied skills in evaluation and experimentation: defining metrics, offline/online alignment, A/B testing, debugging regressions, and model quality analysis.
  
• Demonstrated ability to influence across teams and drive ambiguous problem areas to measurable outcomes.

The Content Quality Signals team at Pinterest is seeking a Sr Product Manager to define, execute, and champion the multi-year strategy for building advanced borderline content signals. You will lead product innovation at the intersection of machine learning and user experience-developing the core content quality signals that drive personalization, discovery, and business outcomes across Pinterest. Join the team influencing what users see on Pinterest, enabling millions to turn inspiration into action.

• Developing, aligning the organization around, and driving the strategy and roadmap for Borderline Content Signals, ensuring the roadmap is ambitious, principled, and closely aligned with company priorities.
  
• Lead cross-functional development of critical borderline content signals that power personalization, ranking and core user experiences.
  
• Build, launch, and scale signals that make Pinterest safer, relevant, engaging, and valuable for users and advertisers globally. Nurture a culture of transparency, data-driven decision-making, and continuous learning within the team.
  
• Build strong partnerships with engineering, data science, and multiple product groups to translate vision to metrics, OKRs, and product deliverables.
