The Role We Want You For
As the Project Engineer (Mechanical Procurement), you will support the CDC team in developing competitive HVAC/mechanical estimates and procurement plans, sourcing equipment and materials, and building relationships with manufacturers, reps, and subcontract partners. You will work closely with Clayco project teams, design partners, and the technical group to confirm specified systems meet performance requirements, project standards, and budget. You will help identify lead-time risks early and contribute to winning work through accurate takeoffs, pricing, and value options.
The Specifics of the Role
- Perform mechanical/HVAC takeoffs and quantity surveys (major HVAC equipment and other mechanical equipment and systems) and develop detailed procurement estimates.
- Solicit, level, and validate supplier/manufacturer quotes; confirm scope, inclusions/exclusions, alternates, and delivery assumptions.
- Support intercompany sales efforts by engaging OEMs, reps, and distributors, maintaining pricing intelligence, and helping identify new procurement opportunities.
- Evaluate bills of material for completeness and accuracy; flag gaps, long-lead items, and coordination concerns (power, controls, structural, seismic, space/clearances).
- Assist with contract review from a procurement perspective (commercial terms, freight, taxes, escalation, liquidated damages, warranty, service/startup).
- Gather and prepare submittal packages (equipment schedules, cut sheets, performance data, controls narratives) and track reviews/returns to keep the buyout schedule on track.
- Create purchase requisitions / product lists and support purchase order and change order preparation with clear scope and quantities.
- Track orders and logistics (lead times, releases, fabrication, shipping, storage); coordinate with the project team on site constraints and delivery windows.
- Maintain procurement documentation (quote logs, bid tabs, vendor correspondence) and support closeout deliverables as assigned (warranties, O&M manuals, spare parts).
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of mechanical construction and HVAC systems/equipment; able to read plans/specs and speak the language of engineers, contractors, and OEMs.
- 5+ years of procurement experience preferred; or equivalent combination of mechanical/HVAC field, estimating, or project support experience with demonstrated procurement capability.
- Experience with estimating/takeoffs, bid leveling, and vendor communication; detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
- Working knowledge of construction fundamentals, coordination practices, and project documentation (submittals, RFIs, change orders).
- Comfortable negotiating with suppliers and understanding commercial terms; proficient with Excel and procurement/PM tools.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Design Engineer at TASSCO, you will lead the design and execution of custom-engineered bulk material handling systems and components for abrasive environments. This role combines deep technical expertise in material flow, structural design, and wear mitigation with a hands-on, project-driven approach. You’ll own projects from concept to final implementation—ensuring system reliability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
You will collaborate closely with sales, operations, manufacturing, and field teams while leveraging tools such as AutoCAD Inventor and discrete element modeling (DEM) to optimize performance. Your designs will directly contribute to the success of capital and MRO projects across industries including mining, aggregates, power generation, and heavy industrial.
LOCATION: Birmingham, Alabama. Office hours: 7:30-4:30pm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead engineering design of custom bulk material handling systems including transfer chutes, towers, supports, and liners
- Apply DEM software and simulation data to enhance material flow and reduce wear
- Create detailed design packages including 3D models, BOMs, stress calculations, and manufacturing notes
- Specify structural reinforcements, wear-resistant materials, and overlay/fabrication techniques
- Interface with CNC, plasma cutting, forming, and welding processes to ensure manufacturability
- Coordinate closely with sales, estimating, shop, and field service teams throughout the design cycle
- Review customer bid packages and translate specifications into actionable engineering plans
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight on drafting, design standards, and QA processes
- Deliver complete design proposals including scope definition, system layout, and budget analysis
SUCCESS METRICS
First 3 Months: Learn TASSCO’s design standards, ERP workflows, materials, and key systems. Support ongoing projects with AutoCAD 3D layouts and fabrication drawings. Begin conducting DEM model reviews and participating in site visits
First 6 Months: Independently lead small-to-mid-size design projects and generate full drawing packages. Perform structural calculations and specify reinforcement and wear treatments. Incorporate DEM results into optimized designs and complete at least one full system
First Year: Deliver multiple large-scale designs with high accuracy and manufacturability. Lead capital and MRO project design scopes from concept to implementation. Mentor team members and propose improvements in materials or processes for performance gains
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
Experience:
- 8–10 years of engineering experience in mechanical or structural design, ideally within custom steel fabrication or heavy industrial systems.
- Proven background designing bulk material handling systems or other engineered-to-order capital equipment.
Certifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a strong plus but not required.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Inventor and 3D modeling.
- Hands-on experience with discrete element modeling (DEM) software for flow simulation.
- Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques (e.g., overlay, hard-facing), CNC processes, and manufacturing constraints.
- Experience applying AWS, AISC, and OSHA standards to structural and welded assemblies.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and project tracking tools.

Knowledge and ability to use Autocad for the detailing of customer arrangement drawings, shop fabrication drawings, checking and validation, load/lifting diagrams, and BOM’s. Having 3D experience is beneficial but not necessary.
Knowledge of machining practices and tolerances, and welding principles.

Job Demands include, but are not limited to:
Must be physically able to perform work assigned. Must be able to perform field measuring tasks which can include climbing ladders and stairs, entering into confined spaces, as well as extreme temperature, humidity, etc.
Must have or be able to obtain MSHA and OSHA safety certification.
Ability to work overtime if needed. Can be after hours and/or weekends.
Limited travel - typically less than once per month with durations of 1 to 3 days. Must have a valid credit card and driver’s license for use with travel - company will reimburse all valid expenses.

We are partnering with a general contractor to hire a Project Manager to oversee Industrial, Manufacturing, and Mission Critical construction projects. You’ll run projects from day one of preconstruction all the way through closeout - managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client communication while leading teams to successful, safe, high-quality project delivery. Responsibilities
- Lead all phases of construction from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Enforce safety and quality standards; conduct regular site inspections and audits.
- Oversee daily project execution, resolve field issues, and ensure work aligns with plans, specifications, and client expectations.
- Prepare and review estimates, takeoffs, proposals, and subcontractor bids; negotiate and award contracts.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, change orders, vendor invoices, and owner billing.
- Secure permits and ensure compliance with codes, regulations, insurance requirements, and contract obligations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including RFIs, pay apps, schedules, and closeout materials.
- Lead and mentor project teams (PEs, APMs, PMs, Superintendents) and oversee manpower planning and staffing needs.
- Conduct regular OAC, subcontractor, and internal project meetings to maintain alignment and progress.
- Serve as primary contact for clients, design partners, and subcontractors; strengthen relationships and support future business opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering (Civil, Architectural, or related), or equivalent experience.
- 5-7+ years of project management experience
- Proven background delivering large-scale ($50M+) projects from preconstruction through completion.
- Demonstrated leadership, team management, and collaborative communication skills.
- Proficient with construction software and productivity tools (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Office)
