  • Department culture and resources: 9A is a f ast-paced unit with medically complex patients. The nurses and HCTs on the unit work collaboratively with the providers, patient families, therapists, and pharmacists to provide safe and quality care. The success of patient care is strongly rooted in teamwork and communication. The unit leadership focuses on reinforcing teamwork and individual growth through employee engagement and various opportunities within the organization.
  • Frequent nursing skills/equipment used:

Nursing assessments, medication administration, collaboration with multiple disciplines, and the ability to communicate patient care needs with the care team. Hands-on skills such as IV insertion, foley insertion, tracheostomy care, using plum pump for fluid and medication administration, administering tube feeding, wound care and wound vacs, and ostomy bag care. Position Highlights: NT7 Digestive Surgical Unit
  • Number of beds on unit: 43
  • Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): NT7 is 43- bed unit specializing in the care of acute and chronic digestive surgical patients. We are a bariatric certified unit by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Surgical patients on this unit includes trunk trauma patients, as well high acuity surgical advance care patients. We care for patients with surgical intervention needs from Oral Maxillary Facial Surgery (OMFS) traveling through to Colon Rectal Surgeries. With Carle being a level trauma center most regional trauma patients will be admitted to this unit.
  • Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:4-6 for surgical/medical patients and 1:3 with surgical advanced care patients
  • Department culture and resources: North Tower 7 is a high acuity critical thinking unit that extensively collaborates with the surgical residents and attendings.   • Department culture and resources: North Tower 4 is a fast paced throughput unit that highly collaborates with physical and occupational therapists. The average length of stay for most patients is a max of three days, so staff can experience the entire recovery process of the patient. We focus on being a team to provide the best and safest care to our community. Our patients appreciate the kind and positive reassurance they receive from our staff. Additionally resources for the unit include: a full-time educator, part-time educator, 2 nurse supervisors, a manager, and charge nurses.
