Job Overview
We are seeking a Quality Engineer to support quality activities on the shop floor, investigate product and process quality issues, and drive corrective actions. This role will work closely with inspectors, internal teams, and customers to ensure quality standards are maintained and improved.
Key Responsibilities
- Use quality tools and practices to establish approval criteria and identify quality concerns.
- Investigate product and process quality issues, collect and analyze data, and implement corrective actions.
- Provide work direction to inspectors regarding containment, quality procedures, and monitoring of critical processes.
- Facilitate quality-related discussions with internal and external customers to drive corrective actions.
- Generate monthly quality reports to track metrics and participate in management reviews.
- Support and identify Continuous Improvement (CI) projects.
- Spend 50–75% of time on the shop floor supporting manufacturing activities.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or related field.
- Experience working in manufacturing/shop floor environments.
- Strong team collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to analyze data and resolve quality-related issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering degree preferred (not required).
- Equivalent education or relevant work experience will also be considered.
Additional Requirements
- Metatarsal safety shoes are required on the shop floor.

Basic Duties

Qualifications

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
This position will work in the field/shop environment and at Customer jobsites. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 75 lbs. Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- Safety glasses or side shields, hearing protection, etc.) for a given situation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Occasional travel may be required. - Design fire suppression systems including wet, dry, pre-action, and foam fire sprinkler systems
- Perform detailed shop drawings (field installation drawings and hydraulic calculations), field engineering functions (on the jobsite support and review), and operation planning (field installation support)

Job Summary:
This entry level Electrical Engineer is a great opportunity to apply your technical skills while coordinating numerous capital projects across the Plate department. This role is driven by self-directed work and collaborative efforts with a team of Electrical Engineers, Technical staff, maintenance, and production across the department.
The Electrical Engineer reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer in the department and will work Monday through Friday during daytime hours. You will support off-shifts as needed for your respective projects.
In this role, you will:
- Coordinate all phases of assigned area electrical engineering projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, bid solicitations, design, manufacturing, equipment commissioning, and project closure.
- Lead and participate in problem solving efforts with multi-discipline technical staff, maintenance and production.
- Use PI Vision and Data Link to analyze process issues and provide input to solve process problems.
- Create and develop electrical control solutions that will support process improvements and improve equipment reliability.
- Assist production and maintenance with equipment and process issues.
- PLC/HMI and controls redesign and upgrades of existing processes.
- Install and troubleshoot camera systems on industrial equipment.
- Incorporate SMART Manufacturing principles and tools into automated inspection systems to improve processes, data collection/analysis, and drive quick results in recovery improvements.
Qualifications
You have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- 1-3 years of Electrical Engineering experience (including Internship)

In this role, you will lead process improvement efforts on Rolling mills to improve equipment operation, product recovery, and support product development.
Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following: Supporting product development by investigating, determining, and changing rolling models/processes required to run new product Support the operations and maintenance of Vision Systems, Measuring Systems, and Surface Quality Monitoring Systems installed on the Rolling equipment as well as lead execution of installation and commissioning on new Systems Advise/counsel/lead failure analysis; participate in and lead problem solving teams, identification of root cause and solutions and organize support from other resources Utilize technical knowledge-base and provide advanced technical guidance to ensure there is a thorough understanding of equipment and its effect on utilization, process and product quality Provide technical solutions to recurring design, process and application problems Maintain excellent working relationship with internal customers (such as: corporate technical resources, leadership teams, production, quality and maintenance resources) and external suppliers to ensure process improvement needs are understood and met Although this position is primarily a first shift position, due to the 24/7 manufacturing environment, working off-shift hours and/or weekends to support operations is expected, although not always required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution Minimum five (3) years of engineering experience with minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment Basic understanding of statistics Basic understanding of Vision Systems and Surface Monitoring Systems Demonstrated proficiency in Industrial controls, programming (PLCs, C++, Python, Java, etc) Interested in hearing more?
