General Description:

Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair marine diesel engines along with hydraulic and propulsion systems on commercial vessels. Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot complex malfunctions, and ensure safe and efficient vessel operation.


Primary Job Functions:

  • Troubleshooting. Determining what is causing an operating error and deciding what to do about it
  • Testing. Conducting tests to determine whether equipment, software, or procedures are operating as expected
  • Ability to perform major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on marine engines and related equipment and systems is preferable.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks
  • Dismantles and repairs defective equipment on the engine and reassembles equipment

Desired Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines and propulsion systems, combined with troubleshooting expertise.
  • Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail for repairs, physical stamina for working in tight spaces/outdoor conditions, and proficiency with diagnostic tools.

  • Lead and govern design-related CAPA activities across the R&D organization, ensuring timely, compliant, and effective resolution of complex design, verification, validation, and product performance issues.

  • Review and approve CAPA plans, timelines, effectiveness verification strategies, and closure rationales to ensure regulatory robustness and high-quality outcomes.
  • Support internal and external audits, inspections, and assessments by providing CAPA documentation (e.g., CAPA storyboards), investigation rationale, and subject matter expertise.

Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in R&D within a medical device organization with at least 5 years of CAPA processes and regulatory compliance requirements (FDA, ISO 13485).
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience in managing CAPA for design and development activities


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Expert-level understanding of CAPA methodologies, root cause analysis tools (Fishbone, 5 Whys, FMEA), and risk management.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with ability to influence and drive accountability.

Job Summary

The School of Aerospace Engineering ( ) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions. Typically reporting to the School Chair, the Professor is a tenured/tenure-track faculty member who performs a combination of teaching, research, and service. Professors hold a terminal degree and have normally spent three or more years at the rank of Associate Professor.
