Job Description
Core Responsibilities:
1. Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
* Accurately diagnose engine, transmission, electrical, brake, and suspension issues on diesel trucks and trailers.
* Use diagnostic software, scan tools, and testing equipment to isolate and identify root causes.
* Perform DOT inspections and identify safety-related concerns.
2. Repairs & Maintenance
* Complete preventive maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, greasing, and fluid checks.
* Perform major and minor repairs to diesel engines, drivetrains, clutches, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, cooling systems, and trailer systems.
* Repair or replace defective parts using power tools, hand tools, and equipment.
* Repair trailer components (electrical, air lines, lights, ABS, axles, doors, suspensions, etc.)
3. Documentation & Reporting
* Complete repair orders with accurate notes, parts used, time logged, and labor performed.
* Take before/after photos where applicable for customer transparency.
* Communicate any delays or additional issues found to service advisor or foreman immediately.
4. Workflow & Shop Support
* Follow assigned job schedules and maintain efficiency goals (track productivity based on billed hours vs. clocked time).
* Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized at all times.
* Participate in shift meetings and communicate effectively with parts and service staff.
* Help train and support junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.
5. Tools, Equipment & Safety
* Maintain and secure personal and shop tools used during repairs.
* Operate shop equipment such as lifts, jacks, torque wrenches, tire machines, and welding equipment.
* Follow all OSHA and shop safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and reporting hazards.
6. Customer Interaction (as needed)
* Occasionally assist with customer explanations (when asked by service advisor).
* Conduct test drives and verify repairs when necessary.

On-Road Field Diesel Mechanic
SNI has an immediate need for an On-Road Field Diesel Mechanic to join a well-established and successful residential and commercial site developer!
The successful On-Road Field Diesel Mechanic will have experience maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting heavy diesel-powered equipment at various job sites throughout the Baltimore, Maryland area.
You will be provided with a company truck and will be tasked with working on heavy equipment and diesel engine mechanics, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently in a field environment.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Perform on-site maintenance and repairs of heavy diesel-powered equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and other construction machinery.
- Travel to various job sites to diagnose and resolve mechanical and diesel engine issues.
- Conduct routine maintenance services, including oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections of diesel engines and associated systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
- Drive and maintain the company-provided service truck.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in heavy equipment and diesel engine maintenance and repair.
- Strong mechanical and technical skills, with a focus on diesel engines.

- Familiarity with hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Light truck maintenance and repair experience is preferred.

This is a Full-time Hourly position 40+ hours per week.
Key Duties:
Perform mechanical and technical work on diesel and gas motors, engines, generators and systems of various size vessels (30-100 ft) and industrial equipment. This includes heavy and light duty mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs.
Requirements:
Min. 2+ yrs in-depth knowledge and marine mechanical experience on diesel and gas outboards and inboards with the ability to independently trouble shoot.
- Must have experience operating standard mechanical tools and diagnostic software.
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 60lbs, climb ladders, work in small compartments/spaces, work on feet a full day, able to wear personal protective equipment such as respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection.
- Able to complete projects in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Ensure project work orders are executed as written and all work is complete, meeting company standards.
- Plan with and receive direction from management regarding current and upcoming projects.

How You’ll Make An Impact As our Diesel/heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will perform skilled maintenance and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related components across a variety of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
You will ensure reliability, safety, and performance through thorough diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repair activities both in-shop and in the field.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic, and electrical systems on company vehicles and heavy equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, tune-ups, and system inspections to ensure peak performance.
Utilize diagnostic software such as JPRO or JALTEST to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
Repair hydraulic components like pumps, valves, and cylinders used in utility and construction equipment.
Conduct welding, fabrication, and component replacement as needed.
Perform field repairs and mobile maintenance for breakdowns when required.
Document all maintenance and repair work in fleet management systems accurately.
Follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards in all tasks.
Maintain organized work areas, tools, and shop equipment.
Coordinate with supervisors, drivers, and project managers to minimize downtime and ensure timely repairs.

## Overview
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of diesel engines, heavy trucks, medium trucks, trailers, electronics and possess strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
## Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on med/heavy trucks
- Diagnose and repair engine, chassis, drivetrain, and vehicle systems for electronic and mechanical issues
- Inspect and test vehicles to identify malfunctions
- Disassemble and assemble engine and mechanical components
- Conduct regular service on vehicles and equipment
- Collaborate with Service Technicians to ensure timely repairs
- Utilize welding, soldering, computer and electrical skills as needed
-Manage offsite repairs, scheduling, email, inventory and purchasing related to operating a service truck multiple days a week.
-On occasion stay overnight out of town when the job requires.(Food and Lodging are provided/paid for)
-On call rotation (1 week a month on average)
## Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably in a dealership or other heavy duty shop/automotive repair setting or combined schooling
- Familiarity with major common OEM's
- Proficiency in chassis and suspension
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, software interaction, safety systems, and general diagnostic processes in the industry
- Ability to weld effectively

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
- Basic tools, required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:
- Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
- Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A,preferred
- This position requires for you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
- Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder Drug Test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

- Performs preventive maintenance
- Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
- Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
- Replaces defective components as instructed
- Performs facility maintenance duties
- Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
- Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
- Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
- Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
