Job Summary

The Track Laborer will be required to safely and efficiently inspect, repair, and maintain the railroad track infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient service for our customers. This is a manual labor position, which requires that the individual becomes proficient in the following skills, duties, and requirements within a prescribed training and introductory period.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with inspecting, loading & unloading, distribution and installation of rail, rail components, cross ties, switch ties, ballasts, and other track materials Assist with inspecting, grinding, fabrication and repair of rail and track components Assist with inspection, maintenance, repair and construction of track turnouts, switch stands, and track infrastructure Assist with inspection, construction, demolition, and maintenance of track surface structure, gauge, tie removal and disposal, tie replacement and roadbed rehabilitation Inspect, protect, construct, maintain, and repair road crossings, bridges, culverts and tunnels, facilities, snow fences, signs and equipment Cut and dispose of vegetation using tools, equipment and manual labor Clean ice, snow, dirt and debris from switches Remove snow, ice or other foreign materials from track infrastructure Accurate and timely reporting as required Read and accurately interpret company documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and federal and state regulations Communicate professionally and effectively Learn, understand and apply a comprehensive understanding of track authority Comply with performance metrics measurements and deadlines Practice safe work habits and follow company and industry policies, procedures and regulations Respond promptly to any accident, incident or emergency call Read gauges, precision measuring instruments, schematics and maintenance manuals 100% of the time Operate equipment such as backhoe and track hoe Perform other duties as assigned or required

  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain laboratory exercises and equipment for the introductory "Habitable Planet" course (EAS 1601).
  • Supervise and train teaching assistants for "Habitable Planet" course (EAS 1601) each semester.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and/or training in implementation of high impact teaching practices.
  • Experience using Canvas or equivalent course website software.

About the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the largest producers of electrical engineers and computer engineers in the United States. Almost 2,600 students are enrolled in the School's graduate and undergraduate programs, and in the last academic year, 801 degrees were awarded. The College seeks a dynamic, imaginative illustrator, animator, artist, and educator who is passionate about student success in interdisciplinary art and design. This position emphasizes illustrated narrative and sequential visual storytelling across print and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong visual art skills, be well-versed in industry trends, demonstrate expertise in professional creative work and research in a variety of contexts, and integrate traditional methods with current and emerging technologies.


The appointed individual will be responsible for teaching a variety of intermediate and advanced courses in Illustration, Animation, or Game Arts. In addition to leading undergraduate classes, the faculty member will mentor graduate students, foster independent inquiry at advanced levels, contribute to curriculum development and assessment, advise students, and engage in service at the departmental, college, and university levels, while maintaining an active creative and scholarly practice.


In a rapidly changing creative landscape, the role of the artist in shaping stories and images remains essential. We seek a colleague who inspires students to engage critically and creatively with both traditional methods and new possibilities, while modeling curiosity, adaptability, and artistic excellence.


Minimum qualifications:



  • A terminal degree, such as an MFA, PhD, MDes, MS, in Illustration, Animation, Game Arts, Digital Media, Media Arts, or a closely related discipline;
  • At least four years of professional creative practice and achievement or relevant college-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Illustration and Animation/Game Arts, showing proficiency in current industry methods, technologies, and practices, and able to mentor students in developing creative skills and critical thinking.

Preferred qualifications:



  • At least three years of experience teaching in Illustration at the college-level, with particular interest in illustrated narrative and sequential visual storytelling across print and digital platforms.
  • Breadth of proficiency across digital tools and physical media and the ability to adapt to evolving platforms and practices.
