Position description

Birge Physics Laboratory, on UC Berkeley campus.



This position will be in the dark matter direct detection group in the Physics Department of UC Berkeley, working with Professor Daniel McKinsey and Professor Matt Pyle.



Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in the area of experimental astroparticle physics in the Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley. Research will focus on TESSERACT dark matter detector development and testing, the construction, commissioning, and operation of the TESSERACT experiment at the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane, analysis of TESSERACT data, and related R&D.



Responsibilities of the position will also include assigned data analysis, contributing to manuscripts, and providing training for students in the group.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety & health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in safety and health compliance in a manufacturing environment, with strong knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations. Experience with multiple sites/states a plus.
  • Skilled in leading others without formal reporting authority.

The Customer Support / Quality Lead is responsible for providing customer service support, including quotations, delivery information and technical information. Coincidently ensures consistent, compliant, and accurate execution of quality processes by guiding frontline quality activities, resolving issues, and supporting continuous improvement across operations.

Customer Service Functions

  • Handles customer requests including quotes, orders, follow-up and delivery information.   
  • Provides customer service support, including providing technical information and explanations to customers.
  • Fills orders by transferring orders to fulfillment; communicating expected delivery date; explaining stock-outs.

  • Lead efforts toward achieving and maintaining ISO 9001 certification.
  • Creates, revises, and controls, Quality manual, SOPs, Work Instructions, Forms, and quality procedures.
  • Identifies gaps. Ensures root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented. 
  • Collecting and reporting of KPIs for quality management.
  • Coordinates resources required to address quality concerns.
  • Ensures documentation meets internal and external requirements (e.g., ISO clauses, regulatory expectations). 
  • Prepares for and supports customer/certification/regulatory audits; coordinates responses and follow ups. 
  • Preserves and maintains training records; ensures staff are trained on relevant procedures, changes and expectations. 
  • Manages controlled records (inspection logs, audit reports, risk files) to ensure traceability and retention.
  • Conducts internal audits.
  • Serves as a cross-functional advisor.
  • Other tasks/functions as assigned. 


Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of Customer Service experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements preferred.
  • Acts positively upon constructive criticism and coaching.
  • Work independently and in a group across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work based on deadlines.

What You'll Do:

As a Ready-Mix driver, you will deliver ready-mixed concrete and other associated products to construction job sites within a reasonable proximity due to the perishability of ready-mixed concrete. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Pre-trip inspection of ready-mix truck pursuant to D.O.T. regulations.
  • Fills water tank before each delivery by placing rubber hose into water tank and filling after checking that all valves are shut.
  • Upon receiving delivery ticket, driver drives or backs truck under plant (depending on plant configuration) and charges mixer to receive concrete, making sure to take any admixtures or other ancillary products that are on ticket.
  • Safely drives truck to jobsite and arrives with the desired slump within customer or job specifications.
  • Upon arriving on jobsite, the driver must be able to safely maneuver truck in often very unstable ground conditions. Safe observations of customer's equipment and conditions.
  • Driver will add necessary ingredients such as fibers, chemical, foam admixtures, cements, or integral colors at plant or jobsite, as well as other products.
  • Pursuant to customer needs, driver will place chutes from fender or hanging rack onto the main chute at the rear of truck for discharge. Upon completion of discharge, driver will wash the chutes in washout system or other appropriate location as directed by contractor and put back in appropriate location on truck.
  • Prior to leaving jobsite, driver is responsible for completing all paperwork and collection of moneys if necessary.
  • Upon completion of each shift, driver will wash truck with hose and brush, including the use of cleaning solution when necessary.
  • Communicates with dispatch by a two-way radio and the use of a truck status signaling system.
  • At the end of the shift, all paperwork must be completed and turned in. All cash COD must be put in COD envelope and put in locked box.
  • Ready-Mix Driver is responsible to call schedule each day for start time.
  • Each driver is expected to perform a post-trip inspection of truck pursuant to DOT regulations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with company employees, suppliers, and customers. Promote and maintain the professional image and reputation of the company and ensure timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or B
  • Ability to pass Federal Department of Transportation drug screen and physical and obtain DOT Medical Card.
  • Must safely operate truck and perform tasks that are congruent with company policy, and within state and federal laws.
