GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Responsible for coordinating the placement of all patient admissions (elective and emergent) and transfers in accordance with the clinical standards and guidelines of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Responsible for ensuring that the patient is admitted to the most appropriate bed available using criteria for admission and determining if the patient is a candidate for observation or inpatient status. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A current RN license is required.

  • Multistate licenses must establish residency with the Idaho Board of Nursing within 60 days from hire.
  • All colleagues must provide licensure or proof of application in process for an Oregon RN license within 90 days of the hire date.

BSN strongly preferred. A minimum of two years of Registered Nurse experience is required. Previous leadership roles preferred. At hire, Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. (ACLS and/or PALS may be accepted in lieu of BLS) Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Communicates with managers, charge nurses and clinical coordinators (especially during times of high census) to ensure adequate staffing to admit patients to the units. Utilizes IUSM () when determining patient placement. Coordinates with environmental services and patient care units to speed turnaround of beds. Participates in daily bed briefing and surge and intensity meetings as necessary. Initiates new concepts, approaches and procedures in the placement of patients to facilitate admission process. Monitors the overall capacity status of the medical center and coordinates interventions to ensure smooth functioning during periods of peak census, limited staffing or services and other factors that could influence admission patterns. Coordinates with transport, PACU, and inpatient units for movement of physical beds to appropriate areas in a timely manner. Enters calls from outlying facilities into Forefront. Demonstrates ability to utilize Central Logic to search for physicians and use paging system including appropriate scripting for text paging. Communicates frequently with the emergency department to facilitate timely admissions. Prepares periodic reports regarding issues and concerns in the placement of patients. Serves on committees within and beyond Patient Care Services PRN.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN), you will be responsible for performing patient assessments, developing a plan of care, and implementing and evaluating care on infants. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, you will work collaboratively with the other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of care.  



  • You will attend deliveries and performs neonatal stabilization and admission assessments of newborns  


  • You will create a plan of care, including discharge plans, revise the plans based on the patients’ response to treatment and regularly evaluate plans for effectiveness 


  • You will conduct on-going assessments of infants and communicate any changes to Nurse Practitioner or Neonatologist  


  • You will administer medications and complete treatments according to hospital policy  


  • You will assist transport teams in stabilization of infants and provide necessary support and documentation to facilitate the transfer 


  • You will provide support and education materials to families on homecare, treatments, adoption and support groups

The hospital also features the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery, bariatric (weight loss) surgery, a Heart and Vascular Center, neurology and neurosurgery, a kidney transplant program, a Level IV Epilepsy Center, as well as inpatient and outpatient surgery and acute rehabilitation services for both inpatients and outpatients.

St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas, located at St. David's North Austin Medical Center, is recognized by the State of Texas as a Level IV Maternal Facility. This means it provides the highest level of care for pregnant and postpartum patients, especially those with serious or complex medical, surgical, or pregnancy-related conditions, including those at high risk for maternal morbidity or mortality. The center includes a 95+ bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 30+ private rooms, 10+ rooms for very small babies, and 10+ beds for babies needing neurological care. It also has 35+ labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, including Central Texas’ first low-intervention birthing suites with tubs. There are 95+ postpartum beds, 20+ antepartum beds, and Cesarean section surgical suites. The facility offers 24/7 neonatology coverage, OB/GYN hospitalists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, lactation consultants, and a midwifery program. It is part of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network and TexasAIM, and it also provides a high-risk pregnancy navigation and support program.

St. David's Surgical Hospital is part of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for both adults and children. It has its own 24-hour emergency department, a medical-surgical inpatient unit, and a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for patients ages 17 and under. The hospital is staffed with pediatric emergency physicians, pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, and other specialists who are specially trained to care for children. It also includes certified child-life specialists who help kids feel more comfortable during their hospital stay. St. David’s Children’s Hospital offers many pediatric services, such as pediatric surgery, pediatric radiology (including imaging and interventional procedures), and pediatric anesthesia for surgical support.   • Part of the Bon Secours Richmond Health System, a faith-based, not-for-profit healthcare systems which operates 1 other hospital and 2 other medical centers, along with other services.
  • 391-bed facility with over 75,000 outpatient visits annually.
  • Named a Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital by Thomson Reuters and was recognized by HealthGrades for being ranked among the top 5% in the nation for emergency medicine, critical care, stroke, gastrointestinal care, and prostatectomy.
  • Best known in Richmond for our birthing center, repeatedly voted the “Best Place in Richmond to Have a Baby”.
  • Designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons.

Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center – Midlothian, Virginia

  • 130-beds with an additional 55 beds being added by 2024
  • Annual volume of 32,000+
  • Services at St. Francis include all types of surgery, women’s services, 24-hour onsite neonatology, 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, oncology, urology, pediatric services, cardiac catheterization, MRI/CT, diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine.
  • Bon Secours Cancer Institute at St. Francis offers services in radiation, medical and surgical oncology, diagnostic services, infusion therapy, palliative care, and patient/family education services.

Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital – Richmond, Virginia

  • 104-bed hospital with a 40-bed dedicated unit for acute psychiatric treatment and stabilization.  
  • Listed as a “Top Performer” for ER patient satisfaction, as well as received recognition for their work in the Saving 100,000 Lives Campaign by the Institute for Health Care Improvement.
  • Bon Secours takes pride in serving their local communities, with an emphasis on the poor and undeserved.  

Providers will be cross-credentialed at all three sites.
