Job Summary:
A registered professional nurse who functions under the direction of the Manager of the Operating Room and is responsible for providing leadership and assistance in directing all activities/services for the Operating Room of the Hospital. Responsible for the daily function of the OR "running the board". He or she manages the flow of patients maintaning polices and the best interest of all patients and surgeons. Has shared responsibility for supporting and adhering to standards of practices, system and department policies and procedures, and ensuring quality patient care. Other responsibilities include assisting with ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements by all departmental personnel. will work under the Manager to ensure satisfaction, appropriate reporting, and coordination of departmental functions with the operations of the operating room. Works in collaboration with the Manager to maintain retention and recruitment. is surgical resource to all levels of nursing staff and nursing management for facility, Patient Flow, and surgical practices. Creates and maintains an environment that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission and goals, and fosters communication and collaborative practice with physicians and staff members. Responsible for Performance Improvement and quality assurance aspects of surgical services. Negotiates with staff and surgeons to assure that we are prepared for all cases

Implement standards of practice, system and department policies and procedures. * Review and implement new and changes to existing standards of practice in the Surgical Services Area * Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of Surgical Services in the nursing practice and surgical services procedural areas of nursing care * Provide expert opinion and feedback in the creation/review of department policies and procedures * Review and implement new department policies and procedures * Ensure understanding and compliance with standards and policies * Exemplary Practice * Assess the impact of, and plan strategies to address such issues as: Ethnic, cultural and diversity changes in the population Political and social influences Financial and economic issues The aging society and demographic needs Ethical issues related to health care * Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of healthcare. * Ensure that care is delivered with respect to individuals rights and preferences. * Evaluate employee performance using the Performance Management Model in accordance with Human Resources Policy and Practice Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements by all department personnel * Maintain level of knowledge of current compliance requirements and pending changes through professional education and awareness * Serve as subject matter expert in the area of Surgical Services in the nursing and operations remain a resource to all levels of staff for education and information sharing * Fosters open communication and collaborative practices between staff, other departments and physicians/care providers Partner with Management and Educators to provide appropriate training and learning opportunities for staff * Promotes safe environment for staff and patients * Promote professional nursing practice through feedback, information sharing, evidence-based practice and ethical accountability * Maintain professional license and education requirements consistent with the area of specialty/expertise and complete these requirements on an annual basis or as required by licensing body Promotes and actively participates in performance improvement initiatives designed to enhance quality patient care and improve work processes and efficiencies * Partner with managers and staff to ensure fiscal responsibility through individual accountability, identification and implement of cost containment activities, reduction or elimination of waste * Research and present ideas on improvements in the areas of customer satisfaction, reporting and Patient Flow services * Uses problem solving and communication skills bring forth performance improvement ideas and opportunities * Uses established Performance Improvement criteria when addresses issues or recommending changes in practice, policies and procedures Assures that supplies and appropriate staff members are available for each surgical case. * Works with surgeons and staff to manage resource maps so that supplies are available for each case. * Works with materials management to assure appropriate supplies are available. * Works with Director of Surgical Services and surgeons on all capital equipment requests and purchases. * Works with staff members to see that staff has appropriate education. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

* Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) Nursing or Bachelors Nursing-Preferred

- Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross

- Perform routine and complex cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries, including:

- TAVR/Structural heart procedures

- Minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery
- LVAD surgery, pacemaker implantation, thoracoscopic surgery

- Lead extractions and standbys

About the Chief of Vascular Surgery Position
The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School is currently recruiting a Board-Certified Vascular Surgeon to lead the Section of Vascular Surgery. Offering an exceptional opportunity, we are searching for a Chief of the Section to lead our growing team of five vascular surgeons and five advanced practice providers in a clinic-based academic program with remarkable prospects in clinical practice, research, and teaching. The ideal candidate should possess excellent clinical and technical skills, have exceptional leadership qualities, and have a collaborative approach to patient care. The Division Chief will recruit and retain faculty; manage program development and growth; build regional referral programs, set strategic direction for the division and align goals with institutional objectives.
The selected candidate will lead our expanding Vascular Surgery Division and will have the opportunity to engage in a robust clinical practice covering the full spectrum of vascular diseases. This includes complex aortic interventions, limb-salvage procedures, and comprehensive care for venous disorders. In addition to advanced endovascular and open surgical expertise, a strong track record in managing complex aortic pathology is highly desired. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Vascular Surgery and must have completed an accredited vascular surgery fellowship or integrated residency.
The role also includes significant involvement in medical student education and general surgery resident training, with active participation in GME activities expected.
Essential Functions
Provide comprehensive vascular care, including both open and endovascular procedures-across a clinical system encompassing Dell Seton Medical Center (Level I trauma center), Ascension Seton Medical Center, two suburban Level II trauma hospitals with busy vascular surgery practices, and Dell Children's Hospital.
Foster a culture that prioritizes faculty success, enhances satisfaction and retention, and supports the growth of both academic and clinical activities.
Ensure the division consistently meets or exceeds benchmarked quality standards across clinical outcomes, operational processes, patient experience, and overall quality rankings.
Deliver high-quality clinical care, participating in on-call coverage, staffing outpatient clinics, managing perioperative patients, and responding to daily consultation requests.
Demonstrate expertise in building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships, with a proven track record of collaborating effectively with academic partners, physicians, consultants, diverse management teams, and affiliated partners to implement clinical programs and advance quality initiatives.
Actively contribute to the education of medical students and general surgery residents.
Engage in clinical research, quality improvement, and scholarly activities.
Promote an environment of scientific inquiry by collaborating with trainees, researchers, and multidisciplinary colleagues within Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
Build and strengthen partnerships with referring physicians, hospitals, and ancillary care providers in Austin and Central Texas.

The Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, in partnership with Ascension Texas, is seeking a full-time thoracic and esophageal surgeon to help expand a rapidly growing robotic thoracic oncology and foregut/esophageal surgery program across Austin and Central Texas. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in thoracic surgery, with demonstrated commitment to minimally invasive and robotic surgery, high-quality outcomes, and multidisciplinary cancer care.
This role is ideal for a surgeon who thrives in a high-growth academic environment and is motivated to build a regionally dominant, nationally recognized program in:
Robotic thoracic surgery (RATS)
Robotic lung cancer surgery and complex thoracic oncology
Esophageal cancer surgery and foregut disease
Advanced endoscopy and minimally invasive esophageal interventions
Complex reoperative thoracic and esophageal surgery (preferred)
Chest wall tumor and reconstruction experience
Essential Functions:
The thoracic and esophageal surgeon will be expected to:
Perform the full scope of general thoracic surgery, with emphasis on:
Robotic thoracic oncology
Advanced minimally invasive lung resection (including segmentectomy)
Mediastinal and pleural disease
Esophageal and foregut surgery
Provide high-level perioperative management and inpatient thoracic surgical care
Participate in on-call responsibilities consistent with divisional coverage needs
Work collaboratively within a high-functioning multidisciplinary cancer and foregut team
Participate in clinical research, outcomes research, QI initiatives, and registry development (STS/GTSD participation)
Engage in teaching and mentorship of medical students and residents
