CONSTRUCTION MANAGER


Overview

The Construction Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing day-to-day construction activities, ensuring compliance with released-for-construction documents, and coordinating all work impacting existing AirTrain operations. Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred).
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 15 years of construction management experience.
  • At least one major transit, rail, or airport design-build project with a capital value ≥ $100M.
  • Strong electrical experience: medium voltage power distribution systems, gas insulated switchgear (GIS), and PSE&G interface.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Professional engineering or architectural license, or relevant construction certification, preferred.
  • Other: Familiarity with PANYNJ projects and ability to pass background/badging requirements at EWR Airport.
  • Light rail and/or people mover systems including electrical experience / power distribution systems. Some experience working for the actual contractor (not just owner side consulting) is preferred.


Responsibilities

  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality of major rail/transit projects.
  • Coordinate engineering and inspection services; maintain strong client and subcontractor relationships.
  • Oversee all work impacting AirTrain operations, ensuring direct coordination with the Existing AirTrain Operator.
  • Lead constructability reviews, change order negotiations, and independent cost estimates.
  • Review schedules, proposals, invoices, requisitions, and purchase orders.
  • Manage contractor access/protection requests and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Act as the owner’s representative in project meetings, presentations, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Provide oversight on electrical systems integration (MV distribution, GIS, utility interface).
  • Lead project teams, ensuring smooth execution and resolution of claims and disputes.


Minimum Requirements

  • 15+ years relevant CM experience.

Position Summary

ASI is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to support a major API manufacturing expansion at a large, highly regulated pharmaceutical campus in Lake County, IL.   • Lead field planning: workface planning, daily/weekly look-ahead, constraint removal, and sequencing to maintain productivity and schedule.
  • Verify field readiness (access, permits, drawings, materials, LOTO boundaries, etc.) and keep crews working efficiently.


Safety Leadership

  • Champion a strong safety culture consistent with client and contractor programs (OSHA/site rules).
  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, toolbox talks, and field safety audits; stop work when conditions are unsafe.
  • Coordinate safe work in operating areas (permits, hot work, line break, confined space, energized work, LOTO).


Construction Quality & Technical Oversight

  • Ensure construction is executed per drawings, specifications, codes/standards, and approved submittals.
  • Review/verify installation quality for process equipment and GMP utilities (e.g., purified water, clean steam, process gases, vacuum, chilled water/steam/condensate, wastewater/neutralization—project dependent).
  • Support punchlist management, deficiency resolution, and field verification/inspection readiness.


Interface Management (Owner / A&E / Contractors)

  • Coordinate construction execution with the A&E team: field design clarifications, constructability issues, and redlines/as-builts.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, pull planning sessions, and progress reporting (schedule updates, constraint logs, productivity blockers).
  • Communicate clearly and early when scope, schedule, access, or design constraints threaten field progress.


Equipment & Package Expediting

  • Track critical equipment/package readiness (FAT/SAT support as required, delivery schedules, staging, rigging plans, installation prerequisites).
  • Coordinate receiving, laydown, preservation, and turnover documentation for API synthesis equipment and supporting systems.


Turnover, Commissioning Support & Documentation

  • Drive system walkdowns and turnover boundaries (systems/areas), supporting mechanical completion packages and turnover to commissioning/CQV.
  • Coordinate vendor support in the field (start-up oversight, issue resolution, closeout).
  • Maintain accurate field records: daily reports, installed quantities, progress photos, redlines, punch list status, and turnover artifacts.



Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of on-site construction field engineering/supervision experience in pharma, biotech, chemical process, or other regulated industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple trades and contractors on fast-moving projects.

Job Summary

The Distribution Mechanic B will be responsible for, under the supervision of the Distribution Department Foreman, performing maintenance and construction work on the steam distribution system. Additional duties could include welding.

A successful candidate for this position is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates a strong commitment to deadlines and teamwork, is process-oriented with a high sense of ownership, possesses a keen intellectual curiosity, and has a solid foundation in construction, pipefitting, or similar trades. A background that includes experience as a certified pipe welder or familiarity with specialized pipe welding techniques is highly desirable and a significant asset.

Core Responsibilities

  • Must have mechanical skills to handle heavy equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to cut, fit and thread pipe; install insulation, re-condition valves and steam traps.
  • Individual must be trained and proficient in traffic control, excavation and shoring in confined workspaces.
  • In addition to Distribution Mechanic duties, responsibilities could include performing welding work as directed. To be a certified pipe welder, the individual must be qualified to weld pressure piping in accordance with the requirements set forth in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX. A premium will be paid for this work.
  • Perform other work assigned of equal or lower classification, if qualified.
