Job Summary

Step into the world’s largest neurological disease treatment and research institution. Barrow Neurological Institute (a Level 1 Trauma Center) is seeking an elite Neuro ICU RN. This is a high-intensity, 32-bed unit where you will manage complex post-surgical cases, including craniotomies, brain tumor ablations, and complicated spine repairs. This role requires exceptional neuro-assessment skills and technical mastery of intracranial pressure monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

- Advanced Neuro Management: Provide 1:2 care for critically ill patients; expertise in External Ventricular Drains (EVD) and ICP monitoring is mandatory.
- Complex Recovery: Manage patients post-craniotomy, brain biopsy, and scoliosis repair.
- Critical Interventions: Titrate vasoactive and sedative infusions, manage mechanical ventilation, and interpret frequent neuro-imaging/lab data.
- Sterile Proficiency: Maintain strict sterile fields for Foley insertions and central line dressing changes (Pass/Fail competency in SIMs Lab required).
- Floating: Required to float across all ICU floors and Telemetry units (ratios up to 4:1 on Tele). Travelers are the first to float.
- Patient Assessment: Perform hourly GCS and detailed neurological checks, identifying subtle changes in status that require immediate intervention.

Requirements & Qualifications

- Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large facility (450+ beds). Level 1 Trauma experience is required. * Note: 18 months experience considered ONLY if entirely in a Neuro ICU.
- Certifications: BLS & ACLS (AHA).
- Licensure: AZ or Compact RN License (Willing to wait for licensure).
- Testing: * Must pass DYS exam PRIOR to acceptance (2 attempts allowed).

- Must pass a Day 1 orientation exam (Pass/Fail).

- Must pass SIMs Lab clinical skills check.

- Physical/Appearance Standards: Must be clean-shaven for fit testing; natural hair colors only; no facial piercings.

Unit & Facility Details

- Facility: (Level 1 Trauma Center).
- Charting System: Cerner.
- Ratios: 1:2 in ICU.
- Scrub Color: Steel Grey (Neuro-specific).
- Support: 24/7 RT and Pharmacy; Charge Nurse does not take a patient load.

Financial & Logistics Notes

- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week (high earning potential).
- Radius Rule: Permanent address must be >50 miles from the facility (Source: Driver’s License).
- Cancellation: Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
- Travel Teams: Must provide their own separate vehicles.
