As a RN – Mother Baby at MercyOne, you will serve as a clinician, team member, and professional and practices under these roles according to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (2004). The Registered Professional Nurse is accountable for the delivery of evidence-based, safe, efficient and family centered care in order to achieve the Mission of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center and the Vision of Patient Care Services.
- Practice within the legal scope of a Registered Professional Nurse as outlined in the Iowa Nurse Practice Act (2006); retains accountability for one’s own nursing practice.
- Responsible for planning, assessing, intervening, co-coordinating and providing direct patient care by utilizing critical thinking skills.
- Communicates with physicians, ancillary care-givers, patients and families regarding the patient’s plan of care.
- Fulfill the responsibility of holistic (body, mind and spirit) nursing care based on the mission, vision and values of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center.
- Performs assessments including physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs.
Schedule:
- 7:00 pm – 7:30 am; every third weekend and holiday rotation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate degree in nursing required
2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
3. Current Iowa RN license, (current Illinois (IL) license if working in IL) required.
4. Labor/Delivery experience preferred.
5. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.
6. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
7. PALS certification required within one year of hire date.
8. NRP required within 6 months of hire.
9. EFM certification preferred. If not certified, required within one year of starting Labor and Delivery orientation.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally competent care for women, newborns, and pediatric patients. Utilizes evidence-based practice and critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome-based care. Manages a diverse patient population across labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery, pediatrics, and/or pediatric intensive care, with varying levels of acuity. Supervises and coordinates care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Technicians/Assistants, and other team members, while ensuring clear communication with physicians, families, and the interdisciplinary team. Job Requirements / Qualifications:
a. Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Current/valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required if applicable.

Key Responsibilities:
· Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
· Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
· Obtain and record vital signs including but not limited to, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problem.
· May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
· Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topically, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
· May perform routine tests including but not limited to EKG’s.
· Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follows up to ensure completion of testing.
· Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by physician.
· Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
· Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
· Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).
· Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
· Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.
· Perform other duties as assigned by practice manager, MA Lead or as requested by healthcare provider(s).
