Job Description:
We are looking for a Machine Vision / Controls Engineer to join our fast-paced automation engineering firm. This role focuses on developing machine vision inspection systems while also supporting controls development and feasibility testing for custom automation equipment.
You will perform vision feasibility studies, camera/lens/lighting selection, and vision programming, primarily using Keyence Machine Vision systems. In addition, you will support PLC programming, system integration, and automation debugging on our custom machines.
This position works closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to integrate machine vision, robotics, motion control, and PLC systems into complete automation solutions.

Duties:
- Perform machine vision feasibility testing in our lab to validate inspection concepts and system performance
- Size and select cameras, lenses, and lighting for vision inspection applications
- Develop and program machine vision systems (primarily Keyence)
- Integrate vision systems with robots, PLCs, and motion control systems
- Program and support PLC controls systems (primarily Allen Bradley ladder logic)
- Assist with controls debugging and automation system integration
- Support machine builds, testing, and troubleshooting in the shop
- Assist with system commissioning and startup at customer facilities
- Create and maintain vision documentation, feasibility reports, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to optimize inspection and automation performance
- Deploy systems at customer facilities and perform service work
- Travel up to 15% (mostly within 250 miles of Columbus, Ohio)
Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field

This role is responsible for operating, setting up, and maintaining CNC equipment to produce high-quality parts that meet engineering specifications and production standards. - Set up, adjust, and operate CNC mills and lathes, as well as conventional and specialty machine tools.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up multiple work centers, ensuring initial parts meet Quality Assurance specifications.

Under the direction of the supervisor, operate machines, tools, and equipment in the Mill Room to complete orders to the highest quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Machine material to meet part specifications utilizing work instructions and/or patterns.
- Ensures accurate completion of paperwork; verify part quality and quantities.
- Setup and operate a variety of saws, drill press, CNC machines, hand drills and other hand tools.
- May operate forklift if certified.
- Follow part specifications to produce machined parts by setting up and operating a CNC machine.
- Follows all work orders provided by management.
- Remains compliant with housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.
- Recommends new and better processes, and methods where possible to manager.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and debris free work area.
- May perform some assembly.
- Must have the ability to identify and resolve problems in an efficient manner.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience using tools and equipment.
Perform basic mathematical calculations.
Understand and follow written, verbal and demonstrated directions.
Must have the ability to work closely and efficiently with fellow co-workers.
Must have great organizational skills and be able to multi-task.
Excellent attention to detail.
Must have strong knowledge of quality production.
General knowledge of and ability to use a computer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2 years or more relevant production or manufacturing experience.
Previous experience operating a variety of saws, drill press, CNC machines, hand drills and other hand tools.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to regularly stand, and frequently walk, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands, fingers, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, carrying and moving parts, materials, and product. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
