Position description

The University and Jepson Herbaria at UC Berkeley seek an experienced phycologist to work in the Silva Center with the mission to develop, maintain and share documentation in the field of algal systematics.



The incumbent will be working as part of the International Bioeconomy Macroalgae Center (IBMC), funded by NSF and led by J.D. Coates, Professor of Microbiology at UC Berkeley. The work will focus on extracting and amplifying DNA from historic type and other herbarium specimens as part of our effort to understand the seaweed flora of California. The assembly of plastid genomes and exploration of nuclear sequences will be accomplished in collaboration with Igor Grigoriev, of the DOE Joint Genome Institute.



The Responsibilities of the Position include:

* Extract DNA from archival type specimens of California seaweeds.

* Design primers for use with historic algae specimens.

* Amplify DNA for next generation sequencing of plastid genomes and portions of nuclear DNA.

* Annotate and construct plastid genomes with the Joint Genome Institute.

* Collaborate on writing papers to report results.

Position description

The Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist in the area of Atmospheric Science, specifically Cloud Physics, using Stereophotogrammetry, Remote Sensing, and Computational Modeling to study moist convection, with strong emphasis on instrument development (cameras), data processing (calibration, stereo reconstruction algorithms), scientific leadership, and mentorship in physical sciences.



This position will be in David Romps' group in the Earth and Planetary Science Department of UC Berkeley. The group at UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) uses theory, simulation, and observation of clouds and atmospheric dynamics to improve our understanding of Earth's climate.



The successful candidate will co-lead the development of cameras for the stereophotogrammetry of clouds, combining the camera data with the theory of physical processes and related numerical simulations to answer scientific questions about moist convective dynamics.



Assist with supervising and mentoring postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The Assistant Project Scientist will collaborate with David Romps' group to produce publications, as well as contribute to proposals and progress reports. Maintain the code base responsible for camera calibration, feature matching, stereo reconstruction, and volume filling. Develop new stereo-reconstruction algorithms to keep our program at the cutting edge of cloud photogrammetry. Manage the operations of the cameras, including calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

JOB SUMMARY

Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. Provide clinical leadership for other staff and assume relief charge duties when designated. About The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering

The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering is a department within the College of Engineering at Georgia Tech and the School of Medicine at Emory University. Our community includes a student body of ~1,200 undergraduates and ~400 graduate students as well as more than 150 faculty and staff. One of the largest BME programs in the US, we graduate the most URM and Female biomedical engineers in the country. The BME department currently employs about 90 total faculty, including 5 Academic Professional track faculty, 10 Lecturer track faculty, and 5 Professors of the Practice.

The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering is hiring for an Academic Faculty (Academic Professional Track) position titled Director of Learning Innovation (DLI). A position of this type, with slightly varying titles, throughout the history of the department by 5 different people. Success in this position involves achieving three objectives: (1) Foster a culture of evidence-based teaching practices and curricular innovation, (2) improve our understanding of engineering education using educational research methods, and (3) build the national profile of the department as a leader in biomedical engineering education. We expect the focus of work in this role to be primarily the department's top ranked undergraduate program, but engaging with the graduate program may also be possible or needed. We estimate the breakdown of the Director of Learning Innovation to be approximately 15% research; 35% administration; 30% teaching and 20% service, detailed below.



Responsibilities

TEACHING (30%)
We expect the DLI's teaching responsibility to be serving as the course director for Problems in Biomedical Engineering (BMED2250). BMED2250, typically taken undergraduate's second year, uses a Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach to guide students through the development of potential solutions to a broad single-disease-focused design challenge. A similar course has been a cornerstone of the department's undergraduate curriculum since its establishment and are described in work by Newstetter (2006). The course is offered during Fall and Spring semesters and enrolls around 150 students per semester in 5 to 6 `studio sections with a weekly lecture. Critically, the course also serves to enculturate faculty to the department's philosophy of teaching. The course director is responsible for overall coordination of course instruction, managing the lecture portion of the class, training TAs and Faculty facilitators, and typically facilitating 1 studio section. Depending on the candidates background and interests, other teaching assignments may be possible.

ADMINISTATION (35%)
Achieving the three objectives for the DLI position will require the candidate to integrate curricular leadership and educational research. As a departmental leader, the DLI is responsible for identifying and guiding opportunities for curricular improvements, especially through the translation of leading educational research. They will also mentor individual faculty throughout the department about teaching, evidence-based teaching, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research. To do so, the DLI will work closely with other leaders in the department, TT and NTT faculty, and the Director of Faculty and Student Training.

RESEARCH (15%)

The DLI will also be expected to engage in research and research dissemination. A major focus of that work is likely to be scholarship related to their innovation work. However, they are encouraged to pursue related research independent of active innovation projects as well. Successful candidates will be those that look for both traditional and novel opportunities for scholarly dissemination. We have a special interest in candidates who can build strong relationships to share research results and promote our innovation work across Georgia Tech, biomedical engineering, and engineering education. The DLI will be encouraged to pursue external funding both to support programmatic change efforts and their own research. The department has a history of receiving funding from NIH, NSF, and KEEN to support programmatic curricular change efforts.

SERVICE (20%)
All department faculty are assigned to one to two departmental committees. It is expected that the DLI will be routinely assigned as a member of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and/or the departments Faculty Learning Committee (a yearly community of practice faculty development opportunity). The DLI will also be encouraged to pursue opportunities for professional service.

Guidelines for Rank Appointment:

  • Associate Academic Professional. This is the entry-level rank and normally requires completion of the terminal degree. In exceptional cases, this rank may be used for individuals completing a terminal degree and for a period of two (2) years. If the degree is not conferred, another position appointment is required.
  • Academic Professional. This rank requires a terminal degree. It also requires significant related experience or promotion from the rank of Associate Academic Professional. Ordinarily at least three (3) years as an Associate Academic Professional is required before promotion to the rank of Academic Professional. The quality of performance and potential for development must be recognized by peers. Credit for previous academic or professional experience should be explicitly stated at the time of employment.
  • Senior Academic Professional. This rank requires a terminal degree. It also requires evidence of superior performance in the chosen field, recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local), and successful and measurable related experience. Promotion to Senior Academic Professional from the rank of Academic Professional requires at least five (5) years at that level. Credit for previous academic or professional experience should be explicitly stated at the time of employment.
  • Principal Academic Professional. This rank requires a terminal degree. It also requires evidence of superior performance in the chosen field, recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local), and successful and measurable related experience, including but not limited to supervision of others' work, significant responsibility, and authority within program area, and demonstrated impact. Promotion to Principal Academic Professional from the rank of Senior Academic Professional requires at least six (6) years at that level. Credit for previous academic or professional experience should be explicitly stated at the time of employment.


Preferred Qualifications

We ask that candidates describe the relevance of their PhD training in their materials.

We will give preference to those who provide evidence they meet some of the following criteria:

  • Experience with undergraduate teaching, especially in engineering courses.
  • Experience coordinating large multi-section courses, transitioning courses from lecture to non-lecture based pedagogical approaches, and/or first-year specific education.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing research-based instructional strategies.
  • Experience working with departments, courses, and students to improve the success of all students in engineering and STEM.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and assessing faculty development activities to increase the use of evidence based instructional strategies in a variety of courses.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidates will have experience in the following:

  • Ability to develop and teach quantitatively and computationally intensive meteorology and atmospheric sciences content, in particular topics that pertain to one or more of the following undergraduate courses: EAS 2551 Introduction to Meteorological Analysis, EAS 4440 Mesoscale Meteorology, EAS 4450 Synoptic Meteorology, EAS 4460 Satellite and Radar Meteorology, EAS 4655 Atmospheric Dynamics, EAS 4656 Atmospheric Dynamics Lab, EAS 4670 Atmospheric Dynamics II (see undergraduate-courses for current syllabi).
  • Experience and/or training in implementation of high impact teaching practices.
  • Experience using Canvas or equivalent course website software.

Job Summary

The Kwong lab in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a non tenure-track research faculty position in Laboratory for Synthetic Immunity.

The Laboratory for Synthetic Immunity (LSI) is an interdisciplinary research group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory School of Medicine. Founded in 2014 by Director Dr. Gabe Kwong, the mission of LSI is to pioneer the next wave of immunotherapies and diagnostics to intercept diseases at an early stage and develop treatments that drive deep responses to meaningfully improve patient outcomes.

We are currently seeking exceptional individuals to join our research group as a Research Scientist. The successful candidate will be a motivated and creative individual that will pioneer new categories of immune biosensors that leverage design principles from synthetic biology and cell engineering for early cancer detection. They will take a lead role in experimental design, execution of experiments, and interpretation of results to achieve the major objectives of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the director and lab members in experimental design, bench and animal studies,
  • Play a lead role in regular internal project meetings and data reviews.

  • Work with the lab director and university officials in grant administration, project budgets, and scientific reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Immunology, or related fields with deep expertise in cancer immunology and/or biosensors.
  • Expertise in the design and testing of sense-and-respond biocircuits for cancer therapy or diagnostics.
  • Proficiency in cell and molecular biology techniques including sterile technique, cell culture, chromatography, electrophoresis, and flow cytometry.
  • Proficiency in animal studies including live animal imaging, animal handling and drug administration, necropsy and cell isolation.
  • Skilled in molecular cloning, lentivirus production, T cell transduction, protein production and purification.
  • Experience with T cell isolation, tumor inoculation; isolation, and dissociation of mouse tumor xenografts.
  • Experience with qPCR, next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation, NGS data analysis is plus.
  • Proficiency with statistical software like SPSS and/or GraphPad Prism.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, time-management, and collaboration skills are required.
  • Demonstrated desire to mentor graduate and/or undergraduate students.

Job Summary

The College of Sciences (CoS) and the College of Engineering (CoE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invite applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in the field of solar-terrestrial science and/or space weather. Applicants will be considered at all ranks, though there is a particular focus on the Assistant and Associate ranks. Areas of interest include but are not limited to the Earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere, space weather forecasting and resilience. Applicants with research interests in any or all of sensors and observations from ground or satellite instruments, data analysis and data science, modeling and theoretical research, are all welcome to apply. The position will be supported by the National Science Foundation under the Faculty Development in geoSpace Science program. This unique faculty search is being pursued by a joint effort of two Colleges, enabling candidates across a broad range of backgrounds to apply. The departmental home of the hired candidate will be determined based on best fit and may be anywhere within CoS or CoE. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.



Responsibilities

Applicants conducting or proposing interdisciplinary work have a high potential for success in the position, in part due to the nature of this faculty search, and in part due to Georgia Tech's interdisciplinary culture. About the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the largest producers of electrical engineers and computer engineers in the United States. Almost 2,600 students are enrolled in the School's graduate and undergraduate programs, and in the last academic year, 801 degrees were awarded. All ECE undergraduate and graduate programs are in the top five of the most recent college rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition to the main campus in Atlanta, Georgia, ECE also has permanent operations at Georgia Tech-Lorraine in France. Graduate students who spend at least one semester each at two Georgia Tech locations (Atlanta or Lorraine (North America or Europe) can earn the Georgia Tech Global Engineering Immersion Program (GEIP) Certificate when they receive the Georgia Tech M.S. degree.

The School of Aerospace Engineering ( ) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions. Typically reporting to the School Chair, the Professor is a tenured/tenure-track faculty member who performs a combination of teaching, research, and service. Professors may hold administrative appointments as long as the majority of their time is dedicated to teaching, research, and service. Professors hold a terminal degree and have normally spent three or more years at the rank of Associate Professor.

The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the largest producers of electrical engineers and computer engineers in the United States. Almost 2,600 students are enrolled in the School's graduate and undergraduate programs, and in the last academic year, 801 degrees were awarded. All ECE undergraduate and graduate programs are in the top five of the most recent college rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition to the main campus in Atlanta, Georgia, ECE also has permanent operations at Georgia Tech-Lorraine in France and Georgia Tech-Shenzhen in China. Job Summary

The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Heterogeneous Integration and Advanced Packaging (HI/AP). The School is interested in HI/AP topics including, but not limited to: bonding technologies for 3DHI, co-packaged photonics, 2.5D/3D HI technologies, advanced materials for HI/AP, system co-design and optimization, glass-core packaging technologies, and advanced assembly and interconnect technologies. Focus on system level demonstrations using HI/AP and circuit/system co-design are relevant.

The School seeks individuals with outstanding potential for research achievement, and a strong aptitude and interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as interest and experience in translating their research to commercial applications. Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent. The School of Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) at GA Tech is seeking to hire a Research Engineer (Open Rank) to serve as a Product Manager. CSE is enhancing our impact on the Georgia Tech ecosystem through new programs that help students become better Research Software Engineers. With this increased capacity, we will amplify the impact of research conducted by Georgia Tech's scientific community. We are expanding our team of 6 professional software engineers (with varying degrees of industry experience) to include a Product Manager who is excited about working in a highly dynamic and research-oriented environment.

This is a hybrid working position.



Responsibilities

  • Partner with Georgia Tech faculty to identify areas of scientific research likely to benefit from dedicated Research Software Engineering.
  • Establish goals and requirements to create new functionality that maximize Research Software Engineering contributions.

The Center for Scientific Software Engineering (SSE) at Georgia Tech (one of the four inaugural Virtual Institute for Scientific Software centers) supports the development of better quality, more sustainable scientific software. To achieve this goal, the Center:

  • Creates custom software solutions in partnership with scientific researchers.
  • Provides guidance on state-of-the-art tools, technology, and techniques.
  • Encourages best practices in open science and the open-source software that supports it.
  • Creates and supports long-term scientific platforms and systems.

Job Summary

The Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking experienced candidates to fill a vacancy at the rank of Non-Tenure Track Lecturer of Information Technology Management (ITM), starting in fall 2026. The primary duties will be to teach and provide service to the College, the Institute, and the profession.
