Position: Sr. Staff Base Software Engineer – OS & Middleware (Telematics ECU)
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Staff Base Software Engineer – OS & Middleware to lead the architecture, design, integration, and optimization of embedded Linux operating systems and middleware platforms for next-generation Telematics Control Units (TCU).
This role will drive secure, scalable, and high-performance base software solutions supporting 4G/5G connectivity, GNSS, eCall, OTA updates (FOTA/SOTA), V2X, remote diagnostics, and cloud-connected vehicle services. The ideal candidate will provide strong technical leadership and ensure cybersecurity, functional safety, and ASPICE compliance across telematics platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and integration of embedded Linux OS and middleware for TCU platforms
- Define and implement secure boot, root-of-trust, secure key management, and OTA update mechanisms
- Architect and integrate 4G/5G modem, GNSS, and secure cloud communication stacks
- Integrate and optimize V2X communication stacks (C-V2X/DSRC)
- Drive BSP integration, kernel configuration, driver enablement, and SoC bring-up
- Design IPC frameworks, service orchestration, and system resource management
- Optimize system performance (boot time, CPU scheduling, memory footprint, storage I/O, network throughput)
- Establish performance profiling and instrumentation frameworks
- Ensure cybersecurity compliance with ISO/SAE standards and OEM specifications
- Enable vehicle network integration (CAN, Ethernet, LIN, UDS, DoIP)
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and secure software lifecycle practices
- Provide technical leadership, architecture reviews, and production sustainment support
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of embedded software development experience
- Strong programming skills in C/C++
- Direct experience with Linux-based Telematics Control Units
- BSP development, kernel configuration, and SoC bring-up expertise
- Experience with 4G/5G modem platforms (Qualcomm or equivalent)
- Deep knowledge of Linux kernel, drivers, middleware, and networking stack
- Experience with TCP/IP, TLS, MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Senior Software Engineer to join our Integration Engineering team. The ideal candidate is an expert in Apache Camel (latest stable version) and Spring Boot (latest stable version), with strong experience in Java 21+, Kafka, and Kubernetes/AKS. This role focuses on building high-performance, scalable integration solutions, including streaming large file contents, payload transformations, and enterprise messaging workflows.

Division 7800 ICU is an Oncology designated 25-bed Intensive Care Unit. 10 beds designated to our oncology and bone marrow transplant patients. We provide care to critically ill patients with an oncology, bone marrow transplant diagnosis and patients that have had surgical interventions requiring ICU care. Care of high acuity critically ill patients includes high complexity interventions serving patients of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), Oncology, and Surgical services. The presence of a multitude of services provides broad experiences for the nurse. Care is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team including oncology nurses, attending physicians, fellows, advanced practice nurses, physician assistance, case managers, social workers, spiritual care, pharmacy and psycho-social support.

Job Description
This position leads, under Director and PI supervision, most aspects of field research activities at the Hopland Research and Extension Center (HREC). The primary focus of this position is on project management of up to 20 different research projects in diverse fields of study within agriculture and natural resources. This range includes plant science, soil science, animal science, wildlife ecology, oak woodland ecology, fire science, rangeland management, and hydrology. This position interacts with Primary Investigators (PIs) throughout the research process, from idea generation through project creation and refinement including design planning, plot construction, project implementation and management, data collection, analysis, and reporting. This position assists with duties related to livestock management of HREC's sheep flock, and all field maintenance activities required to keep a 5,358-acre research center functioning. In addition, this position will assist with or lead public outreach activities and extension event.
This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.
Pay Scale: $31.23/hour to $39.60/hour

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as primary lead, under supervision of Superintendent, in conducting field

Works with administration, Community Education Specialist, and other staff, to plan and execute a broad range of extension activities, including researcher and professional field days, school trips, and intensive educational workshops with other collaborators.Develop original content or refine existing curriculum to present information for a range of audiences based on research results generated here at HREC.Demonstrate procedures used in research and field activities.
Maintenance duties as required for maintenance of the property including: fence repair, plumbing repair, brush clearing, road repair, facility cleaning and repair, mowing around barns and infrastructure.
Provide information to Center Director, Superintendent, Animal Techs, and Ag Techs
regarding grazing/non-grazing and prescribed burning needs of research when annual
grazing and burning plans are developed.On a backup basis, assist with animal care (livestock, guard dogs, wildlife) including: shepherding, herd and individual animal health assessment, vaccinations, lambing, breeding, field sampling, and predator management.
Requirements:
- Broad knowledge of scientific research principles, procedures, and protocols.
- Specific knowledge in and experience with agricultural and natural resource related fields of scientific inquiry, including but not limited to plant science, animal science, wildlife ecology, rangeland management and ecology, hydrology, and soil science.
- Experience and skill with conducting specialized field sampling and data collection and analysis, including work with live animals, remote field plots, electronic sensing equipment, and laboratory equipment.
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken, including the specific ability to effectively discuss complicated technical and scientific questions. Ability to tailor communication to the specific audience, including a range from PIs to grade-schoolers and laypeople.
- Proficiency in basic computer programs including: MS Office, mapping programs, web research, document sharing.
Preferred Skills:
- Associate/Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of pest control principles, pesticide application techniques and safety, and relevant regulations. Qualified Applicator Certificate required (can be earned within 6 months of hire).
- Proven skill and experience with a broad range of machinery including but not limited to agricultural tractors and implements, pruning tools (chainsaws, loppers), on and off-road vehicles, trailers, and some heavy equipment.
- Skills and knowledge of handling research animals to minimize stress including domestic livestock and wildlife. Experience with veterinary techniques.

The Intensive Care Unit at BJWCH is a 4 bed ICU environment for patients that need critical care support for their medical condition or after a surgical procedure. The unit team also serves as members of the clinical emergency response team for the hospital. The patients in the ICU are both ICU level of care as well as intermediate/stepdown. We're committed to developing our team, this position offers a clear path for growth into a Team Lead/Charge Nurse role. The unit complexity is growing along with the entire BJWCH hospital!

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 96 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.
Med/Surg ICU, Post-op Ortho, Colorectal, Gen Surg and Medical ICU patients comprise the majority of post surgical patients that are admitted to the ICU. In addition ICU RN's respond to all in house codes.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. Overview
The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute and membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Parent institutions Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine also are nationally recognized, with U.S. News & World Report consistently ranking the hospital and medical school among the nation's elite.
Division 11800 is a 32-bed single occupancy unit that provides care to oncology patients who are hospitalized for cancer treatment and symptom management, including support for immunosuppression and/or neutropenia. The care is moderate to high acuity. Care includes high complexity interventions serving patients on both the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Oncology services. The presence of two services provides broad oncology experiences for the nurse. Care is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team including oncology nurses, advanced practice nurses, case managers, coordinators, social workers, spiritual care, pharmacy and psycho-social support. Professional nursing growth and development are expected, encouraged and supported by the Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program for new graduate nurses, the Career Ladder Program, the Oncology Nursing Society's (ONS) Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course, and educational preparation for the Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) program.
