THE OPPORTUNITY

This engineer will be responsible for completing the Mechanical Engineering portion of projects in support of the Plant Capital execution, as well as Plant Technical support, enabling the plant to meet its Safey, Market, Productivity, and Quality goals. They will assist project teams with pre-studies of deployment and development projects in the M.E. field. They will also complete design studies, follow procurement and fabrication of equipment and lead the installation, commissioning and startup of the equipment in an industrial plant environment. WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Conduct feasibility studies of functional specifications; evaluate solutions against the criteria of cost, landmarks, risks, and functionality.
  • Adhere to the quality system and established methods (risk analyses, FMEA, design reviews, quality planning, treatment of non-Conformities, etc.).
  • Acquire validation of key project milestones during the installation, start-up and ramp-up of the equipment in collaboration with team members.

The Thermal Analyst will be a technical leader across multidisciplinary teams of engineers to create the best overall system design including thermal design, analysis, and test of optical systems operating in harsh space and ground environments. This role would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer with Industrial Manufacturing experience, looking to step-into a high-impact technical leadership role with extensive growth potential and progression towards senior leadership.


The Role:

  • Design and optimise large-scale industrial equipment and mechanical powertrain components.
  • Perform mechanical system analysis (including FEA) and produce detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project teams, and vendors to specify components and ensure designs meet manufacturing requirements.


The Candidate:

  • Strong mechanical design background with proficiency in 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor preferred) and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems (including pneumatics), ideally with experience in industrial equipment, automation, or robotics.
  • Degree qualified (Bachelors).

Job Description:

Mechanical engineers at L3Harris have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of design activities over a broad range of aircraft (both fixed-wing and rotary-wing). Mechanical engineers are responsible for developing designs ranging from the integration of state-of-the-art airborne systems into special mission aircraft to developing specialized aircraft modifications. Engineers utilize 3D parametric CAD, rapid prototyping and other tools in the development of designs and validation of those designs. Engineers will produce technical drawings, procedures and other documents to thoroughly define the design. As an L3Harris engineer you will be involved in all phases of the product design, including concept development, detail design, manufacturing, installation on the aircraft and follow up with the customer.

Essential Functions:
  • Design and liaison of aircraft primary and secondary structure utilizing military and commercial design standards, customer specifications and system requirements documents utilizing 3-dimensional CAD.
  • Provide liaison to production and manufacturing for interpretation of engineering design/drawings.
  • Conducting engineering drawing preparation and release within allocated schedule and budget constraints.
  • Generating bids for customer requested change orders and new pursuits.
  • Documenting and reviewing designs with peers, management, and customers.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles for aircraft structure and components.
  • Strong analytic and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in aircraft and in an aircraft hangar environment. Ability to climb/board and work inside aircraft. Ability to bend, stoop, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, grasp. Ability to work in narrow aisles or passageways.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Willingness and ability to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required.

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent field) and minimum 6 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
    • Minimum 4 years experience with the use of 3D CAD programs to create solid models and 2D detail, assembly, and installation drawings.
    • Minimum 4 years experience with basic Microsoft Office software applications including Word and Excel.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen

    Preferred Additional Skills:
    • Active DoD Secret security clearance
    • Mid-level knowledge of 3D CAD tools:
      • Creo Parametric, Siemens NX or equivalent
    • Familiarity with aircraft and military design standards such as:
      • SAE AS50881, MIL-STD-704, MIL-E-7016, SAE ARP4754, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-516
