A day in the life of a Patient Care Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Providing patient care, based on physical, psychosocial, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the guests/patients served in assigned service
- Providing for effective and safe guest/patients outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
- Ongoing communication with patients, nursing colleagues and other members of the health care team regarding patient's status and rendered care

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
2. Completion of one of the following: - Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician program or - Fundamentals of Nursing program from an accredited school of nursing or - HMH PCT Apprenticeship Program - Or equivalent medical background experience, such as EMT, Home Health Aide, CMA, MA, PCT, Nursing Assistant. Note: Candidates that have not completed one of the programs but meet the other requirements will be considered for selection into the HMH PCT Apprentice Program. If selected, the candidate will be hired into the role of PCT Apprentice. Upon successful completion of the HMH PCT Apprenticeship Program, the candidate will be transferred to the Patient Care Technician role.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Experienced or certified in phlebotomy and checking EKG, vital signs and blood sugar preferred
2. At least one (1) year PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred or eligible for the HMH PCT apprentice program.
3. Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician who has successfully completed a PCT program which includes Phlebotomy, EKG and nursing assistant course both in the theoretical and clinical setting.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 60 days of entering position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Medical Assistant’s may have duties in one or more of the following areas:
Medical Assistant
· Demonstrates ability to recognize urgent/emergent needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures as needed.

· Functions according to limitations or scope of license or certification.
· Performs basic medical assistant functions (vitals, rooming, assist with procedures, immunizations, medication injections etc), under direction and supervision of provider.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
· Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
· Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population serve within three (3) months of hire.

May administer IV push medications and/or add medications to IV only after completion of special training and only under direct supervision of licensed practitioner.
May make arrangements for patient testing and admissions.
May be required to have a working knowledge of ICD9, CPT and HCPCS coding and managed care.
Responds to incoming telephone calls and (per provider instructions) calls in refills and prescriptions to pharmacy.
Per provider and/or established protocol, instructs patients and/or family with regard to medication and treatment and documents the same.

Orders, prepares, and inspects patient charts.
Posts tests and examination results.
Reviews patient's tests and examination results with provider; documents instructions and notifies patient.

Ensures preparation of exam rooms including re-stocking of treatment areas.
Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional licensure and affiliations.

Promptly informs the provider and registered nurse of any significant change in vital signs or acute symptoms. Anticipates/sets up equipment or supplies needed for visit. - Assists practitioner with medical and surgical procedures in accordance with established protocols such as: Electrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection and/or Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing as directed by Provider.
- Provides high quality care by: Prepares and stocks all exam rooms in treatment area by following established protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments. Participates in environmental safety rounds. Maintains vaccine/medication inventory. Monitors and maintains equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines. Assists in ordering supplies and correctly disposes of all expired items. Adheres to office opening and closing procedures.
- Functions as an integral part of the patient care team and promotes patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner: Accepts and performs delegated responsibilities in a positive manner. Offers assistance to others. Attends and participates in staff meetings. Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients and patient care team (in the office and on the phone)

Required:

The Lake Hazel clinic has procedure rooms, lab and digital X-Ray services on site, in addition to a fully staffed Urgent Care facility open every day 8am – 8pm.
What You Will Do:In the lab, you will complete blood draws, POC testing, UAs, and other related tests.
In supporting the provider you will room patients, collect vital signs, medication review, administer immunizations/vaccines, complete child well visits, and assist with minor procedures and also complete chart prep, tasks and orders in the task inbox.
You may help cover for lunches and sick calls.

The Lake Hazel clinic has procedure rooms, lab and digital X-Ray services on site, in addition to a fully staffed Urgent Care facility open every day 8am – 8pm.
What You Will Do:In the lab, you will complete blood draws, POC testing, UAs, and other related tests.
In supporting the provider you will room patients, collect vital signs, medication review, administer immunizations/vaccines, complete child well visits, and assist with minor procedures and also complete chart prep, tasks and orders in the task inbox.
You may help cover for lunches and sick calls.
An ideal candidate will havea friendly and positive attitude, is a team player, has excellent organizational and prioritizing skills, strong communication skills, truly enjoys providing great patient care and likes to have fun.
40 hours/week - Mondays - Fridays, around the hours of 7:30am – 4:00pm.
This will mostly be a set schedule, but flexibility will be needed at times based on patient scheduling.

Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required at hire.
MA certification required within 90 days of hire from one of the following Saint Alphonsus approved agencies:

Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire.

KEYS TO THE POSITION

Scope:
• Handle the following – Receive, unpack, check & verify merchandise/product ensuring accuracy.
• SW tools like SAP, Reynolds and Reynolds, Lightspeed, etc..
• Utilize handheld RF tools to receive merchandise/products into WMS.
• Conduct the following – Stock checks, part # verification, Cycle Count, support physical inventory.
