This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role, as well as additional compensation such as sign-on and retention bonuses and relocation allowances. This position involves a combination of clinical service delivery, scholarly activity, and educational responsibilities focused on the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders in older adults. The ideal candidate will be committed to advancing patient care, medical education, and research within the field.

Clinical Care:

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and management for patients aged 65 and older across various settings, including, outpatient clinics, and consultation-liaison services within the hospital. 

• Diagnose and treat complex conditions such as major neurocognitive disorders (dementia), mood disorders (e.g., geriatric depression), anxiety disorders, and psychosis in the context of advanced age and medical comorbidities. 

• Collaborate closely with neurologists, geriatricians, primary care providers, and neuropsychologists to develop integrated care plans. 

Education and Teaching: 

• Actively participate in the teaching of medical students, and psychiatry residents. 

• Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and clinical supervision on topics specific to late-life mental illness, psychopharmacology in the elderly, and ethical issues in geriatric care.

• Serve as a mentor to trainees interested in careers in geriatric psychiatry. 

Position Requirements: 

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), or equivalent degree. 

• Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency program.

• Successful completion of an accredited Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry is preferred

  • Monitor financial performance and identify cost reduction opportunities

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with state/federal laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

Position Summary: 

  • The System Antimicrobial Stewardship – Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (ASP-ID) is a clinical pharmacy specialist and leader responsible for the development, implementation, and documentation of the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) across Rush University Health System (Rush). This includes providing multidisciplinary education on safe antimicrobial use, creating and implementing guidelines, collaborating with multidisciplinary clinicians, administrators, and support staff across the system, and analyzing metrics for antimicrobial utilization to satisfy new and existing CDC and Joint Commission standards. The ASP-ID pharmacist will be responsible for developing and coordinating innovative clinical pharmacy programs across RUSH sites conducting scholarly and research activities and interdisciplinary teaching. To support the effectiveness of ASP initiatives, the ASP-ID pharmacist will maintain on-site service coverage rounding with inpatient ID team(s). The ASP-ID pharmacist will serve as a key faculty member in postgraduate pharmacy training programs and affiliated colleges of pharmacy. This position will focus their efforts on ASP support at Rush Oak Park hospital and Rush Copley Medical Center. 

Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities of the ASP-ID Pharmacist: 

  • Develops metrics for performance and maintenance of ASP. 
  • Participates in the provision of pharmaceutical patient care through ASP staffing and clinical rounds. 
  • Participates in restricted/protected antimicrobial approval. 
  • Participate in ASP coordinated education of healthcare professionals across RUSH sites and external partners. 
  • Serves as a liaison to other healthcare providers in the ASP. Coordinate the implementation of identified ASP initiatives while assisting with maintaining relevant required regulatory standards. 
  • Assists with the strategic implementation of Department of Pharmacy and RUSH quality initiatives. 
  • Serve as a core preceptor for postgraduate year 1 and 2 (PGY1 and PGY2) pharmacy residents and students. 
  • Document clinical interventions in EPIC. 
  • Participate in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee of the System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. 
  • Complete medication use evaluations (MUE) and new drug and therapeutic class reviews for P&T as assigned.

 Additional Clinical/Operational Responsibilities include: 

  • Evaluate, clarify, and verify EPIC orders for therapeutic appropriateness, when necessary. 
  • Serve as content expert for ID related drug shortages. 
  • Participate in safety event (SE) reporting. Facilitate patient medication reconciliation and discharge teaching when requested.
