This job is responsible for assessing patients and safely performing routine CT procedures in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures and protocols. This job is a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

* Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.

* Verifies physician order and procedure to assure accuracy.
* Utilizes radiology information systems to facilitate care.
* Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
* Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including placement of IV).
* Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
* Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performing notification/remediation as warranted.
* Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
* Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
* Other related duties as required.

Rush University Medical Center and the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is currently recruiting for a Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Adult ICU. This provider will join a team of both physicians and eight critical care APPs on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule that provides 24/7 care to critically ill medical patients at the Rush main campus. This opportunity will require an anticipated 13 shifts per month. APPs will work autonomously and in collaboration with Rush pulmonary/critical care attending physicians and fellows and will be required to perform a number of procedures including central and arterial line placements, paracentesis and temporary hemodialysis catheter placements, among other duties.

The Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) Lead Advanced Practice Provider will have 8. 0 FTE APP direct reports to staff the Intensive Care unit seven (7) days per week and work alongside 17 FTE pulmonary/critical care attending physicians and fellows.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Lead APP will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the schedule of all full-time APPs
  • Performance reviews of direct reports
  • Lead the orientation and mentorship of new APPs to the ICU
  • Conduct recruitment when needed for the ICU APP team
  • Collaborate with unit leadership including nursing leadership and MICU/AICU medical director

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applicants with 2 years of previous Advanced Practice Provider experience with complex medical conditions is required. Advanced Practice Provider experience in the ICU is strongly preferred.
