The Division of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach courses in any of the possible areas:



* Modern Hebrew

* Modern Greek

* Egyptology



In addition to instruction, general responsibilities include (but are not limited to) some or all of the following: preparing course materials and assignments, maintaining course website, providing guidance, in consultation with ladder faculty, to undergraduates in MELC majors/minors, supervising and preparing graduated student instructors, holding office hours, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers, and for language instructors, cooperating with department's language coordinators to plan and teach the department's Language Pedagogy courses. * For Modern Hebrew: Master's/Doctoral degree (or equivalent) in Hebrew language, linguistics, applied linguistics or related field. Native or near-native competence in speaking, listening, writing, and reading Hebrew. Experience in teaching Hebrew at the college level.

* For Modern Greek: Master's/Doctoral degree (or equivalent) in Modern Greek language, linguistics, applied linguistics or related field. Native or near-native competence in speaking, listening, writing, and reading Modern Greek. Knowledge of Katharevousa as well as Demotic Greek is preferred. Experience in teaching Modern Greek at the college level.
