What You Will Be Doing

The Hospital for Special Surgery Data & Analytics team is seeking a Director with a dedicated focus on supporting the Payer Strategy & Contracting function. In this role, you will report into the Data & Analytics team while serving as the primary data partner to leaders and team members in Payer Strategy. You will be responsible for translating business priorities into data-driven solutions, serving as a subject matter expert, driving automation, and delivering reporting, analytics, and insights that enable payer strategy and contracting initiatives and negotiations.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Contracting team to provide analytical support for all contracting efforts, including payer contracting, bundled payment contracting, pay-for-performance contracting, and other emerging reimbursement methodologies.
  • Create and maintain models and data products to evaluate the financial success and impact of new contracts, opportunities, and policy changes, building automated processes that can be reused and scaled across multiple contracts and scenarios.
  • Partner with the Payer Strategy & Contracting team to drive automation design and manage automated reporting solutions, transitioning existing manual processes into scalable, repeatable workflows within the enterprise data lakehouse.

The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is: $121,500 - $268,170

The Role

We are seeking a talented, collaborative, and highly motivated individual with expertise analytical methods highly focused on HPLC and QC operations to join our core team of scientists and engineers. The Senior Scientist will execute Quality Control testing, and associated operations and contribute to analytical testing to ensure compliance with cGMP requirements. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an emerging early-phase clinical company bringing innovative technology to the global market.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, optimization, and execution of HPLC-based analytical methods (e.g., RP-HPLC, SEC, IEX) to support in-process, release, and stability testing.
  • Develop, qualify, validate, and characterize GMP-compliant purity, SEC, and content methods for intermediates and drug products, with a strong emphasis on chromatographic workflows.
  • Author and execute cGMP method qualification and validation protocols, prepare reports, and perform/oversee routine QC testing.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for chromatography methods during investigations of deviations, OOS/OOT events, assay failures, and other non-conformance issues.
  • Provide technical leadership in HPLC troubleshooting, instrument maintenance coordination, data integrity practices, and chromatographic data review.
  • Independently author method SOPs, analytical protocols, technical reports, and contribute to regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain rigorous laboratory documentation and complete, audit-ready analytical records.
  • Collaborate effectively with QC, Manufacturing, Process Development, and Regulatory teams to enable program success across phases.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment with excellent communication and organizational skills.


Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with a minimum of 4 years (10 years for Senior Scientist) in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry; or M.S. with commensurate experience.
  • Demonstrated in-depth expertise in HPLC, including method development, troubleshooting, system suitability design, chromatographic theory, and data interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple chromatographic techniques (RP-HPLC, SEC, IEX, affinity, gradient optimization, detector setup/maintenance).
  • Proven success developing and validating GMP analytical methods and supporting GMP operations.
  • Experience with complementary analytical techniques such as UV-Vis, LC-MS, CE, ELISA, or other functional assays is beneficial.
  • Experience working in a QC or cGMP laboratory environment with strong understanding of data integrity requirements (ALCOA+).
  • Strong organizational skills, precision in documentation, and ability to manage multiple analytical workflows simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Job Summary:

The Sr Analyst - Data & Analytics owns the integrity, analysis, and interpretation of payer claims data to support performance measurement, utilization management, and value-based care initiatives. This role is hands-on and accountable for claims QA, utilization metrics, and analytics outputs used by clinical, operations, and executive stakeholders.

This is an individual contributor role with strong technical depth in payer claims data and healthcare analytics platforms, including MedeAnalytics.


Key Responsibilities


Claims Data Quality & Governance

  • Own QA processes for medical and pharmacy claims data, including eligibility, provider, diagnosis, procedure, and financial fields
  • Identify, quantify, and resolve data anomalies (e.g., lag, duplication, missing claims, inconsistent coding)
  • Partner with data engineering, vendors, and payers to remediate data quality issues
  • Define and maintain claims data validation rules and documentation


Analytics & Utilization Management

  • Analyze and report on core utilization metrics, including:
  • Inpatient admits / 1,000
  • ED visits / 1,000
  • Readmissions
  • PMPM cost trends
  • Length of stay
  • Avoidable admissions
  • Apply payer benchmarks (national, regional, risk-adjusted where applicable) to contextualize performance
  • Support matched cohort, pre/post, and trend analyses
  • Translate claims data into actionable insights for clinical and operations teams


Platform Ownership (MedeAnalytics)

  • Serve as a power user and analytics owner of the MedeAnalytics platform
  • Build, validate, and QA dashboards, reports, and analytic views
  • Ensure alignment between platform outputs and internal data models
  • Act as internal SME for MedeAnalytics capabilities and limitations


Stakeholder & Team Collaboration

Required Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of healthcare analytics experience
  • Deep experience working with payer medical and pharmacy claims data

  • Hands-on experience with MedeAnalytics (required)
  • Advanced SQL/SAS skills; experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to QA complex healthcare datasets

Preferred Qualifications
