The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) is a uniquely interdisciplinary unit with an intellectual culture of cross-pollination between sociological and historical scholarship, as well as work in science and technology studies. The Kwong lab in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Laboratory for Synthetic Immunity focused on PAR T cell design.

The Laboratory for Synthetic Immunity (LSI) is an interdisciplinary research group in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory School of Medicine. Founded in 2014 by Director Dr. Gabe Kwong, the mission of LSI is to pioneer the next wave of immunotherapies and diagnostics to intercept diseases at an early stage and develop treatments that drive deep responses to meaningfully improve patient outcomes.

We are currently seeking exceptional individuals to join our research group as a Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will be a motivated and creative individual that will pioneer new categories of immune biosensors that leverage design principles from synthetic biology and cell engineering for early cancer detection. They will take a lead role in experimental design, execution of experiments, and interpretation of results to achieve the major objectives of the project.

PhD in Biomedical Engineering or related field

• Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Immunology, or related fields with deep expertise in cancer immunology and/or biosensors.
• Expertise in the design and testing of sense-and-respond biocircuits for cancer therapy or diagnostics.
• Proficiency in cell and molecular biology techniques including sterile technique, cell culture, chromatography, electrophoresis, and flow cytometry.
• Proficiency in animal studies including live animal imaging, animal handling and drug administration, necropsy and cell isolation.
• Skilled in molecular cloning, lentivirus production, T cell transduction, protein production and purification.
• Experience with T cell isolation, tumor inoculation; isolation, and dissociation of mouse tumor xenografts.
• Experience with qPCR, next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation, NGS data analysis is plus.
• Proficiency with statistical software like SPSS and/or GraphPad Prism.

Department Information
Stamps Health Services is an outpatient ambulatory care center that provides health care and health education to students and their spouses/domestic partners. The center is located in a state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-foot facility within the Joseph Brown Whitehead Building, next to our Campus Recreation Center. Stamps Health Services provides care in six areas: Primary care, women's health, Psychiatry, Travel/Immunization/Allergy, Pharmacy, and Diagnostic Services (lab and radiology). Primary Care Clinic is the largest of the clinics at Stamps Health Services and sees approximately 24,000 visits/year.

Provide clinical nursing care and education to patients within the scope of Stamps Health Services (SHS) and in accordance with the Georgia Nurse Practice Act. The Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Research Laboratory ( ) seeks self-motivated and talented individuals to participate in and support operations of a research laboratory. Our mission is to develop and translate approaches, devices, algorithms, and agents with clinical impact based on a synergistic combination of biomedical imaging, image-guided therapy, and bionanotechnology. Overall, we are a collaborative, full-spectrum research group leading the discovery, development, and integration of biomedical imaging technologies and theranostic agents for both fundamental research and clinical applications.

The Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Research Laboratory is part of the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), and the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University School of Medicine.

The research engineer will provide technical oversight of the research laboratory operations focused on in-vitro/preclinical/clinical imaging. The responsibilities will include daily interactions with graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical collaborators, and other researchers, technical and other support to research staff, and direct reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities/Duties:

• Designing and fabricating electro-mechanical systems;
• Facilitate construction and maintenance of custom lab equipment (ultrasound transducers and imaging systems, laser systems, motorized linear axis and robotic positioners, etc.);
• Maintain instrumentation, implement best practices and training;
• Serve as a technical source for the researchers in the laboratory;
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related area.

• B.S. (M.S. preferred) in science or engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Biophysics, Chemistry, Biology);

Ph.D. in Economics or the equivalent. A record of research/scholarship, teaching, professional service, and leadership commensurate with the status of full professor at a Research 1 institution.

The ideal candidate should possess effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Experience leading a school or department within a technical institute or a STEM-focused research university is preferred. The qualities of the successful candidate for Chair include:
