Responsibilities:
Assist with daily operations of the Heart & Vascular Care unit, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient‑centered care.
Provide clinical supervision, coaching, and support to nursing staff and unlicensed assistive personnel.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
Support staffing and scheduling needs, including coordinating assignments and managing daily workflow.
Promote adherence to regulatory requirements, professional standards, and hospital policies.
Partner with the Nurse Manager on quality improvement projects, patient experience initiatives, and process optimization.
Serve as a resource for clinical decision‑making and escalate concerns appropriately.

Qualifications:
Current RN license in the state of New Mexico or Out of State Compact license
BLS required

Experience: One year experience in clinical area required
Minimum of 2–3 years of recent acute care nursing experience; experience in cardiac, vascular, telemetry, or critical care strongly preferred.
Previous leadership experience (charge nurse, preceptor, coordinator, etc.) preferred.
Strong clinical assessment, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively and build strong relationships with interdisciplinary teams.

JOB SUMMARY

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience as RN in acute medical surgical unit required, One year of supervisory experience preferred.

- Current Connecticut License Registered Nurse
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire. Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and certification in clinical area preferred.

Acute Care Medicine manage patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and a multitude of other conditions and diseases. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is lead by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Acute Care Medicine manage patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, cystic fibrosis¿and a multitude of other conditions and diseases.¿ Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning.¿Each unit is lead by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse.¿ The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse.¿ Additionally each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist.¿ This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

The Assistant Nurse Manager provides administrative support to Nurse Managers and direct reports. This includes coordinating patient care, performance management of direct reports, equipment purchasing/management, and statistical accumulation.
Responsibilities
Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.Provides and oversees patient care according to planned interventions with regard to their age and developmental needs to attain the patient's optimal level of wellness and documents according to policy.Creates and ensures implementation of a collaborative plan of care based on assessment, diagnosis and medical treatment.May support the review of staff hours worked vs scheduled hours and determine appropriate disposition if variation exists. Perform and approve daily payroll updates. Reconcile time cards, bonus tracking and coding approval. Prepare, coordinate and execute all staff communications; prepare huddle agendas and lead meeting. Determine staffing needs; make nursing assignments as well as assign overtime. Recommend effective annual increases. Interview staff for open positions; evaluate and conduct performance reviews as assigned; draft and issue corrective actions/coaching; follow up regarding any disciplinary action to determine compliance.Responsible for staff productivity and the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership. Conducts performance evaluations and makes recommendations on areas of improvement if needed.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
