Opportunity

Skybound is looking for a creative, strategic, detail-oriented Editor to acquire and edit comic books across multiple genres. This position will be responsible for acquiring and developing creators/books, as well as working with the editorial, design, publicity, and marketing teams to develop the publishing strategy.


Reports: This position will report to the Editorial Director


Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with writers and artists to acquire titles with the correct editorial fit for the publishing strategy
  • Manage development and production of Skybound original comics, licensed comics, digital comics, media tie-ins, custom projects, and additional projects, as needed
  • Read submissions, respond to writers/artists/agents, present projects, negotiate contracts, and monitor payments to authors
  • Perform all editorial functions when appropriate, including reading and evaluating proposals, providing revisions to authors, and line editing
  • Work closely with creators and internal team to maintain publication schedules and due dates
  • Write sales copy for internal positioning and out-of-house product descriptions
  • Keep up to date on competitive marketplace, both print and digital

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, advertising, communications, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in an editing role, preferably assigning stories in a newsroom-type environment
  • Command of the English language, with strong proofreading skills
  • Ability to adapt tone and style to suit the brand and audience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfort using analytics to plan and optimize content
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices
  • Experience in both print and digital content production
  • Comfortable working in content management systems such as Arc (the CMS used by The Dallas Morning News) and WordPress, as well as project management systems such as Mavenlink and Asana
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects

Responsibilities

As a Senior Level Designer you will be the creator that structures the game concept, creates and fulfills the environment of each level. You will also oversee the implementation and update of the core logic components that are necessary for these levels to work.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Create a complete and fascinating level for single player;
  • Apply core map level building principals to Points of Interest inside an open world map;
  • Work closely with writers to ensure a blend of gameplay and story;
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of your work from conception to delivery by correcting bugs and iterating based on peer assessment;
  • Actively participate in peer reviews of additional game modes and levels.


Qualifications

We Expect You To Have:

  • 4+ years’ experience in game industry as a level designer role;
  • Shipped at least one project on a level design role;
  • Worked on ARPG genre in a level design role;
  • Deep knowledge of game editor tools such as Radiant, Unreal, Unity or Crytek Editors;
  • A strong demonstrable portfolio of personal and/or professional work;
  • A proactive, self-driven teammate with outstanding problem-solving abilities;
  • Capability of communicating well both verbally and in writing.


Even Better If You Have:

  • Experience in shipping AAA games;
  • Experience in shipping large open world games;
  • Experience in Unreal 4/5 projects.


Additional Information

  • Hybrid role based in El Segundo (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday on-site)
  • Working hours: 11am – 8pm (including one-hour break);
  • Salary: $90-180k/year depending on experience.
