Job Overview


The Estimator plays a key role in supporting the Furbish Install Department by preparing competitive, accurate bids that help secure new work and drive business growth. This position is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity take‑offs, developing pricing, and producing complete proposals. The Estimator collaborates with internal teams and clients to understand project needs, strengthen relationships, and contribute to winning profitable construction projects.


Essential Functions and Duties


  • Own and manage the complete estimating process, including evaluating and qualifying leads, reviewing plans and specifications, and determining project scope and feasibility.
  • Produce accurate and detailed take‑offs and cost estimates, using digital tools to develop material and labor quantities that meet internal benchmarks and client requirements.
  • Prepare, format, and submit complete bid proposals, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timely delivery of all pricing and supporting documentation.

  • Partner with design and production from the beginning of a season to understand seasonal concepts and aesthetic fabric qualities needed to evolve each category, offering fabrics that meet the objective at a cost effective price
  • Attend domestic and international tradeshows with the goal of identifying relevant trends and establishing new resources to help us evolve our quality and stay ahead of the trend curve while ensuring our price value proposition is maintained
  • Maintain alignment with all cross functional teams to ensure seasonal calendar deadlines are meet/maintained
  • Attend weekly cross functional meetings with production and design partners to discuss open issues so we can ensure product integrity and delivery are not compromised
  • Spearhead Fabric summits to show case latest trends and new developments
  • Procure fabrics for bulk that are within price range and meet design aesthetic
  • Manage Fabric buys and best deliveries that will meet production needs
  • Strengthen and strategize on developing sourcing base by building rapport with current mill partners
  • Source new mills
  • Provide technical analysis and strategic support to production for development and bulk
  • Supervise both Research and Development and bulk fabric teams in NY and overseas
  • Execute timely sample yardage development across all brand categories
  • Source and develop textiles according to design direction and aesthetic, within divisional price parameters to meet required mark-ups
  • Hands on knowledge of fabric construction, finishing and dyeing processes
  • Counter source fabrics as needed for better costing and or deliveries
  • Stay on top of industry and market trends and new innovations in fabrics and textiles
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with design and production teams to monitor costs in advance of placements
  • Partner with production and quality on fabric quality issues.
  • Work with mills, laundries and factories to resolve issues in a timely manner that puts the company’s interest first.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive professional leadership in Fabric Research and Development and procurement
  • Extensive experience in denim
  • Established relationships with mills in worldwide fabric supply chain
  • Previous experience in managing an overseas team
  • Technical knowledge of fabric and garment construction, chemical and wash formulation
  • Strong cost negotiation skills
  • Textile degree preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable regarding garment construction, machinery used in factories and laundries
  • Textile development and Fabric Buying experience as well as knowledge of testing requirements for fabric and garments
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, excellent command of PLM
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and adapt to changing demands of the business

Work with the Director of Merchandising on the planning, development, and execution of

an organization's merchandise strategy. This role involves analyzing market trends, and making data-driven decisions to optimize product assortment, pricing, and inventory levels. The goal is to maximize sales and profitability while ensuring that the merchandise aligns with the company's brand and customer expectations.


The strategic link between the product team and our cross functional partners in marketing, planning and sales.


Assortment Planning:

  • Participate in merchandising strategies and creation of seasonal assortment plans to build profitable assortments that will meet internal margin goals
  • Partner with Director of Merchandising on seasonal style line plan creation and maintenance including but not limited to style number creation, color codes, and product variable data coding for PLM system
  • Set and adjust pricing strategies to optimize sales and
  • profitability, taking into account competitive pricing, cost structures, and market dynamics.

Business Reporting & Analysis:

  • Assist in monitoring weekly sales, analyzing style performance and market trends to better understand channel specific needs and opportunities
  • Learn to understand target customers by shopping retail stores and providing competitive analysis to enhance brand strategies and opportunities
  • Assist in the development of inventory and markdown strategies that fuel company sales objectives


M&D Calendar:

  • Assist the Director of Merchandising in maintaining the design calendar and development process to ensure timely completion
  • Participate in development Milestone Meeting preparation, including sketch reviews, line assortment reviews, proto reviews, pricing and margin reviews, and internal sales presentations


GTM Calendar:

  • Work with Director of Merchandising to set seasonal primary and secondary product marketing stories

Sample Management

  • Work closely with production to manage incoming photo samples
  • Organize, maintain, and prepare samples for merchant presentations and requests from

Wholesale and E-Commerce Asset Creation

  • Collaborate with the creative team on product descriptions
  • Create shot list for seasonal photo assets and work closely with in-house photographer to
  • ensure completion
  • Work with Director of Merchandising on styling of both mens and womens collections, and
  • assist on photoshoots
  • Review photo assets and ensure they meet Outerknown standards



ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in design, business, or marketing
  • Apparel merchandising/buying background required; contemporary menswear experience
  • a plus, planning experience a plus
  • An understanding of the Outerknown brand and mission and how they translate to the
  • collections at the e-commerce level
  • Demonstrated ability to set initiatives and deliver results while maintaining a positive
