We are hoping you will join us as a Behavioral Health Utilization Management Medical Case Manager and help shape the future of healthcare where you'll be an integral part of our BHI ‐ BH Utilization Management team, helping to strive for excellence while we serve our member health with dignity, respecting the value and needs of each of our members through collaboration with our providers, community partners and local stakeholders. This position has been approved to be Full Telework.
- If telework is approved, you are required to work within the State of California only and if Partial Telework, also come in to the Main Office in Orange, CA, at least two (2) days per week minimum.
The Medical Case Manager (BHI Utilization Management) will be responsible for reviewing and processing requests for authorization and notification of behavioral health services from health professionals, clinical facilities and ancillary providers. You will be responsible for prior authorizations, concurrent review and related processes. You will utilize CalOptima Health's medical criteria, policies and procedures to authorize referral requests from behavioral health professionals, clinical facilities and ancillary providers. You will directly interact with providers and facilities and serve as a resource for their needs. Together, we are building a stronger, more equitable health system.
Your Contributions To the Team:
- 85% ‐ Utilization Management Services
- Participates in a mission‐driven culture of high‐quality performance, with a member focus on customer service, consistency, dignity and accountability.
- Assists the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborates with others to support short‐ and long‐term goals/priorities for the department.
- Reviews requests for medical appropriateness by using established clinical protocols to determine the medical necessity of the request.
- Responsible for mailing rendered decision notifications to the provider and member, as applicable.
- Screens inpatient and outpatient requests for the Medical Director's review, gathers pertinent medical information prior to submission to the Medical Director, follows up with the requester by communicating the Medical Director's decision and documents follow‐up in the utilization management system.
- Completes the required documentation for data entry into the utilization management system at the time of the telephone call or fax to include any authorization updates.
- Contacts the health networks and/or CalOptima Health Customer Service regarding health network enrollments.
- Identifies and reports any complaints to the immediate supervisor utilizing the call tracking system or through verbal communication if the issue is of an urgent nature.
- Refers cases of possible over/under utilization to the Medical Director for proper reporting.
- Completes care coordination activities as related to Transition Care Management (TCM) activities.
- Reviews International Classification of Diseases (ICD‐10), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT‐4) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes for accuracy and the existence of coverage specific to the line of business.

Responsibilities
Mayo Clinic's Division of General Internal Medicine in Rochester is one of the largest academic general internal medicine divisions in the world - serving as the gateway in evaluating and caring for adult patients that may have unexplained symptoms and/or complex medical conditions. Consultative Medicine Clinic (a section of GIM) provides consultative medical care to patients that reside outside of Olmsted county in Minnesota. Consultative Medicine sees new patients to Mayo Clinic for an initial comprehensive evaluation. The LPN role in Consultative Medicine includes, but is not limited to, patient visits (face to face and via telephone) review of patient health history, medication review, immunization administration, focused nutrition assessments, and blood pressure visits. Telehealth interactions may include collecting pertinent information prior to their arrival to the clinic, researching prescription discrepancies, and/or facilitating prior authorization denials. The LPN collaborates daily with physicians, nursing colleagues, and support staff.
The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. QualificationsGraduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.
One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred. Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. The U.S. base salary range for this position is $67,500.00 - $112,500 annually. The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. Oak Street Health's graduate Behavioral Health Specialist Fellowship is a 12-month paid training program that provides all the necessary skills, support, and learning required to become a highly confident and competent clinician for older adults.
Role Description:
Oak Street Health's graduate Behavioral Health Specialist Fellowship is a 12-month paid training program in the revolutionary collaborative care model in a value-based setting, which rewards healthcare companies for the quality of their care not the quantity.
This program will include time spent building your knowledge of evidence-based interventions and psychotropic medications, earning clinical supervision hours from a licensed clinical social worker, and engaging in didactic content that aims to build on, not repeat, graduate training. All fellows will work at Oak Street for 24 months following the completion of this program, but we hope will continue to spend their careers at Oak Street improving the health of communities across the country.

* Earn an additional $2.00/hour (premium pay) for hours worked in the home setting starting at 3 pm

What You Will Do:
* Teach kids while playing, and following a treatment plan specific to that child
* Observe, play and collect data so you can write a progress note
* Help kids learn essential life skills such as motor skills, social skills, emotional skills and more
* Work on goals with child that help shape challenging behaviors into communication skills
* Make a difference in the life of a child!
Skills and Qualities We Are Looking For:
* Paid prior experience working with kids (i.e. Camp counselor, daycare, nanny, school setting, ABA, etc) preferred
* Lots of energy, playful, creative, able to think on your feet
* Dependable - someone your client and their family can count on
* Ability to constantly get up and down off floor, move quickly
* Tech savviness - comfortable learning our data collection software and using Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, Teams)
* Desire to learn, work independently, and provide the best quality care to our clients
* Interested in working with evidence-based methods based in science and proven effective
