$83,200.00 - $93,184.00The Surgical and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SICU and Neuro ICU) has a combined total of 30 intensive care beds designed to provide specialized care to the critically ill adult (14 and older) patient.  The unit has a usual 50/50 split of patient population between the neuro and surgical patient population.  

The focus of care is includes patients with life-threatening conditions related to major elective and emergency surgical procedures, multi-trauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, stroke, seizure, sepsis/multi-organ system failure, hemodynamic instability and failure to wean. The SICU and Neuro ICU patient needs encompass but are not limited to comprehensive physical assessments, intensive monitoring, treatment of laboratory values, ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring. 

SICU-Neuro ICU nurses require the following skill set – ICP monitoring via EVD or bolt, spinal drains/catheters, brain oxygen monitoring, Artic Sun therapy, continuous EEG, intra-arterial catheter, non-invasive cardiac output, mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy, reconstructive flap monitoring, and massive blood transfusion among others.  Nursing will support the following on-unit procedures including placement of arterial lines, central lines, external ventricular drains and ICP monitors, SEPS drains, bedside bronchoscopy, abdominal washouts, tracheostomy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement, lumbar punctures, chest tubes, pigtail drains and others.

The nurse is responsible for:

• Implementation of physician orders, administers medications, starts IVs, performs treatments, procedures and special tests, and document treatment as required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' conditions.

$83,200.00 - $93,184.00The Clinical Nurse assesses, coordinates, plans, directs, implements and manages the needs of assigned patients throughout the episode of care with a focus on progress toward discharge, including during transitions within the acute care stay. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for the delivery and coordination of patient care provided by the caregiving team. S/he assures that competent, compassionate patient care is uniformly provided to customers including referring facilities, hospital staff and patients in the inpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

D5N is a 21 bed neurosciences unit with one level of care. We take patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, aneurysms, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, neuromuscular diseases and other diagnoses involving the neurologic system. The floor beds consist of patients requiring every 4-hour monitoring. Additionally, there are 7 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) beds embedded in the 21 neuro floor beds. These patients are seizure disorder patients admitted electively with their anti-convulsant medications on hold and hard wired to continuous EEG. This allows the physicians to identify the area of the brain where the seizures are occurring. Many of these patients become candidates for brain mapping with surgically placed grids to further pinpoint the area causing the seizures. This mapping allows the surgeon to determine if the patient would be a candidate for surgical removal of parts of the brain to stop seizure activity and still allow the patient to have functionality. The nurse-to-patient ratio for floor patients is typically 1:5.

The Education Specialist is expected to utilize their knowledge and skills to accomplish the goals of the organization. $95,680.00 - $148,304.00The “STAT” level Clinical Support Nurse is responsible for identifying the patient's alterations in health, assessing the patient's human response to actual and potential health problems, implementing nursing interventions to achieve outcomes for the patient that facilitate homeostasis, and determining the effectiveness of nursing interventions. The STAT Nurse makes independent decisions/judgments and takes action regarding a wide range of routine and complex patient problems and situations based on protocol. They will collaborate with other disciplines as appropriate, to coordinate continuity of patient care in support of medical and nursing plans of care. The STAT Nurse acts to support patient care needs in any acute medical/surgical unit, intensive care unit, and Emergency Department.

The STAT team is a group of critical care trained professional nurses who are available 24/7 for any issue within the hospital and medical college. STAT nurses provide specialized care to all patients, employees, and visitors requiring acute medical attention at Albany Medical Center and Albany Medical College. The team members also contribute their knowledge to educate staff, patients, and families to recognize clinical deterioration and how to make a proactive assessment and observation for patients at risk for deterioration. STAT team members give MOCK code training for nurses and ancillary staff to help facilitate better outcome in code situations.

STAT Nurses respond to:

Code stroke, Code Thrombectomy, Code STEMI, Code 10, Anesthesia Emergency, Code Blue, Code Malignant Hyperthermia, Code Pink, and Rapid Response pages. Any employee with questions about hospital policies, procedures, or patient care.

STAT Nurses will:

• Use problem focused physical exams to evaluate and treat patients according to protocols.
• Stabilize decompensating patients on the floor and in ICUs.
• Manage ICU patients on the floor.
• Facilitate movement of patients to higher level of care when needed.
• Use the chain of command when resolving issues.
• Assist visitors and staff to ED after a Code Gray.

Use or disclosure shall not exceed the minimum amount of information needed to accomplish an intended purpose. Reasonable efforts, consistent with Albany Med Center policies and standards, shall be made to ensure that information is adequately protected from unauthorized access and modification.
