Job Title: Physician Assistant (PA)

Reports To: Physician

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The PA will be responsible for the evaluation and nonoperative management of patients with musculoskeletal complaints and acute/chronic conditions as well as functioning as a surgical assistant.

Essential Job Functions:

• Maintain an independent schedule and evaluate patients independently as well as under the direction of the supervising physician.
• Perform routine outpatient procedures and surgeries including regional anesthesia, tendon repair, incision and drainage, and wound closure and management.
• Assist physician in examining and diagnosing skeletal and joint problems.
• Order and interpret test results and recommended treatment of patients.
• Administer injections as needed when indicated.
• Provide postoperative patient care.
• Write prescriptions and medical orders.
• Participate in Division research and educational activities.
• Interact and work with orthopedic surgery residents and division fellows.
• Must be able to travel to other UOI offices as needed.
• Additional duties as assigned by the Manager to meet department needs.

Requirements:

• Must be eligible for licensure as a Physician?s Assistant in Massachusetts and/or the State of Rhode Island.
• 2 years? experience as an orthopedic Physician?s Assistant or a new PA graduate with orthopedic experience.
• Interpersonal skills including excellent communication skills to deal effectively with staff, patients, and physicians in a knowledgeable, professional, and courteous manner.
• Professional, pleasant, and enthusiastic demeanor.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient records.

• Must be able to travel to all sites if/when necessary.

Practice in the Hearth of the Community

Flexible Scheduling:

• Flexible scheduling is available. Full-time positions follow a 7-day-on, 7-day-off rotation.
• Shifts for the day position are scheduled from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; the swing schedule is 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Key Responsibilities:

• As a Day clinician, your responsibility will encompass rounding on approximately twelve patients per shift and discharging when appropriate. Our swing clinician performs approximately eight admissions.
• The hospital has a closed ICU with intensivists on hand 24/7. So, procedures are not required.
• As part of our hospitalist team, you?ll contribute to the rapid response and code team. We are all certified in basic life support and advanced cardiovascular life support, and the intensivist team will take over the code once they arrive.
• Our team will connect frequently over lunch to address concerns and receive updates on Sound and hospital matters.
• We are entertaining candidates looking for full-time, part-time, and PRN shifts.
• We use Meditech and have access to our internal informatics platform.
