This is a career ladder position progressing from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12. You may be promoted after 52 weeks at each level without reapplying.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a BPA, you help protect the U.S. by securing borders, stopping illegal activity, and supporting economic stability.

Typical assignments include:

  • Questioning individuals and inspecting documents and property
  • Apprehending undocumented individuals or smugglers using covert surveillance and infrared scopes
  • Tracking and interpreting signs of illegal entry
  • Performing farm, traffic, building, city, and transport checks
  • Patrolling using vehicles, horses, boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, or motorcycles

Qualifications

GL-9: One year of specialized experience at the next lower level, including:

  • Searching detained persons, vehicles, and surroundings
  • Apprehending or restraining suspects in violation of law
  • Using firearms, writing reports, serving warrants, and gathering case evidence

GS-11: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, including:

  • Using intelligence to monitor criminal threats and operations
  • Leading fraud or contraband investigations
  • Apprehending violators using surveillance and detection tech

There is no education substitution for GL-9 or GS-11 positions.

Other Requirements

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Residency: Must have lived primarily in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years

Your Job:
In this highly technical, fast-paced, and rewarding position, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for patients. The Surgical Technician II Certified understands the procedure being performed and assures that all equipment, instrumentation, and supplies are available for the case. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Participates in setting up and turning over the operating room for cases.

Your Job Requirements:

โ€ข High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent
โ€ข Graduate of certified Surgical Technologist program, military trained, or AD in Surgical Technology preferred
โ€ข Basic Life Support certified
โ€ข Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
โ€ข Must have advanced competencies in a minimum of 3 specialties (specialties to be determined by each hospital)

Your Job Responsibilities:

โ€ข Anticipate needs of the surgical team and obtains instrumentation and supplies and available for procedure.
โ€ข Pass instruments to surgeon and assistant during procedure.
โ€ข Assists with terminal cleaning of room and preparation for the following case.
โ€ข Begins cleaning up back table and preparing instruments for terminal cleaning and sterilization as circulator prepares patient to leave the room.
โ€ข Place instruments back in the tray for transport to SPD.
โ€ข Responsible for knowing and adhering to all policy and procedures such as count policy, universal protocol and labeling of medications, etc.
โ€ข Works with students and inexperienced staff on correct method for passing and retrieving instruments during surgical procedures.
