Job Summary

Provides sign language interpretation for signing Deaf or Hard of Hearing students mainstreamed into regular education classes. Facilitates communication between Hard of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and their teachers, their hearing peers and other personnel within the School District. Uses American Sign Language, transliteration or sign support to relay information both to and from the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student in order to assist in the instructional and socialized processes.

Essential Functions
* Uses a system of total communication and sign language; interprets spoken material from teachers, classmates or other school personnel into sign language for the understanding of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student; interprets sign language communication of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student into spoken language for hearing individuals.
* Confers and consults with special education teachers regarding Deaf/Hard of Hearing students' needs and progress; assists in the identification and expression of students' needs and concerns; charts the progress of students.
* Reviews and studies curriculum material in order to assist Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in their comprehension of school material; participates in staff development, sensitivity awareness and in-service training with other school staff.
* Serves as an interpreter for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and parents at special assemblies and meetings or any School District activity.

Minimum Requirements
* Associate's degree from an accredited community college in interpreter education/preparation.
* Three years of full-time, paid experience as an educational interpreter.
* Possession of a valid Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) report with a score of 3.5 or higher or valid certificate as a Sign Language Interpreter from the Registry of Interpreters for Deaf, Inc.

Essential Job Summary::

The Level B Fleet Mechanic/Technician is a journeyman-level role responsible for independent diagnosis and repair of most mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on refuse trucks, heavy trucks/tractors, trailers, and heavy equipment. This role also mentors Level C technicians, supports road calls, and ensures high uptime and DOT compliance for the fleet.

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.:
  • Diagnostics & Repair

    • Independently diagnose and repair:
      • Diesel and gasoline engines (intake, fuel, cooling, aftertreatment/emissions components).
      • Drivetrain components including clutches, transmissions, differentials, PTOs, and drive lines.
      • Air and hydraulic brake systems, ABS, and suspension components.
      • Hydraulic systems on refuse equipment (packer bodies, arms, cylinders, pumps, valves, and hose routing).
      • Electrical systems including starting/charging, multiplex wiring, sensors, and lighting.

     

    Preventive Maintenance & Compliance

    • Perform and sign off on DOT-compliant inspections and PMs, ensuring all safety-critical items are addressed and documented.
    • Accurately interpret and close out DVIR/eDVIR defects; communicate recurring defects to leadership for root-cause analysis.
    • Use OEM and aftermarket diagnostic software, service bulletins, and wiring schematics to troubleshoot complex issues.

     

    Road Calls & Operational Support

    • Respond to road calls and breakdowns throughout the NYC tri-state area; perform safe temporary or permanent repairs to return vehicles to service or coordinate towing as needed.
    • Communicate clearly with dispatch, supervisors, and drivers on repair status and estimated completion times.

     

    Mentorship, Training & Documentation

    • Guide and mentor Level C technicians on best practices, safety, troubleshooting, and proper repair methods.
    • Complete work orders thoroughly, capturing complaint, cause, correction, labor hours, and parts used.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives for PM compliance, repeat repair reduction, and parts standardization.
Requirements and Qualifications::
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5+ years hands-on experience as a diesel, truck, or heavy equipment mechanic/technician, including diagnostics and major component replacement.
  • Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with air brake endorsement strongly preferred to perform road tests and move equipment on public roads within NY/NJ/CT.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret OEM service manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Experience in refuse/solid waste, municipal, or LTL/heavy trucking fleet operating in urban environments preferred.
  • ASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck (T series) or Truck Equipment (E series); working toward Master status preferred.
  • Basic welding and cutting skills (MIG, stick, torch) for brackets, hangers, and minor body fabrication preferred.
  • Familiarity with computerized fleet maintenance and parts inventory systems preferred.

The Employment Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist provides Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (PSR) site based or in the community as assigned. Facilitates the development of employment and other community resources and opportunities. Ensures all clients receive the level of and/or have access to the services/supports they choose; also receive and maintain their participation in vocational or community-based activities. Monitors and tracks client progress of assigned caseload; participates in the development of individualized rehabilitation plans. This position receives supervision from the Program Director and is responsible for coordinating employment development process for vocational opportunities and systems of coverage for the transitional employment program. Establishing and maintaining resource networks with employers and other vocational providers/opportunities. Providing and facilitating skill development and support which include daily living, socialization, educational/vocational supports and opportunities, and leisure/recreation activities planning. Establishing an ongoing dialogue and participating in case conferences on behalf of clients with other members of the rehabilitation team. Maintaining a close liaison with the local community and area service providers/agencies to facilitate program coordination and provide for constructive input and/or alternative resources to current psychiatric rehabilitation plans.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree or Associates degree and 1 year work experience in mental health direct service, or CPS certification and 1 year paid or volunteer experience, or a High School diploma/GED and 2 years work experience in Human Services, including 1 year of mental health direct service. Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) certification preferred. Experience with vocational or employment services. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as be detail-oriented and able to complete a high volume of documentation in a fast-paced environment. Strong computer skills are required, as well as Internet research abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of mental health system and supports. Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
