Job Description:
The Formulations Scientist will be part of a lean, fast paced, highly technical team based in Salisbury, NC that formulates and commercializes agrochemical formulation additives. In this role, formulation demands will come from customers, market trends and novel concepts developed by Innospec R&D. This position reports to the Global Technical Director for Agrochemical.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance to Innospec Agrochemical programs as required through support such as:
- formulation development in the laboratory
- performing application tests
- formula scale-up recommendations
- answering inquiries on products and applications
- Develop commercially viable formulations that successfully meet customer and market demands for performance, economics, and regulatory compliance.
- Research new developments and raw materials for product development to meet new market demands.
- Work with Innospec customers, sales, and production teams to define and develop new products.
- Visit customers to promote our products, develop opportunities for collaboration and to help solve application technical issues involving our products.
- Represent the company at various industry technical events.
Requirements
Candidate must have hands-on experience in formulation developments and characterizations across a wide range of pesticide formulation categories including EC, SC, ME, SL, SE, OD, CS, WP, WG covering concentrates, dispersions and emulsions. Familiarity with the operation of common Agrochemical formulation equipment and CIPAC test methods will be required. Understanding and application knowledge of surfactants, formulation stability, wetting, penetration and other physical characteristics is also required. Prior formulation experience in biologicals, seed treatment, adjuvant, fertilizer and micronutrient areas will also be desired.
- Minimum of a BS in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or other related science field. An advanced degree in relevant field such as Agronomy, Plant Physiology is a plus.
- 3-5 years in agricultural or consumer formulation and applications in the pesticide, fertilizer and adjuvant industry.
- Domestic travel will be required, with up to 10% of time on travel.
- Very effective communicator, both written and oral, and excellent team player.

Daily Responsibilities:
- Take care of the day-to-day technical support through lab work performing standard laboratory formulation development and application tests.

About the Role
As a Maintenance Technician for Innospec Performance Chemicals, you will be responsible for installation, maintenance and improvement of process equipment using advanced machine repair and metal fabrication skills. You must be highly quality-conscious, aggressively self-directed, a motivated team player, and willing and eager to gain and share new knowledge. Using technical drawings and schematics, troubleshoot and repair complex process and facilities equipment.
Responsibilities
- Use machine tools, welding equipment, and measuring devices to fabricate machine parts, various mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, electrical equipment, and lawn equipment.
- Perform various equipment preventive maintenance tasks (i.e., cleaning, inspection, and lubrication) as necessary, but routinely in cases requiring advanced technical expertise and knowledge of safety procedures (e.g., electrical cabinets, machine interiors, etc.).
- Thoroughly document maintenance activity using the maintenance database, adequately communicate maintenance issues to appropriate employees (e.g., other maintenance techs, operators, engineers, supervisors, etc.), and properly utilize the maintenance inventory system.
- Champion process improvement in assigned areas by analyzing equipment maintenance history, identifying significant causes of waste, coordinating with appropriate employees to develop root-cause solutions, and providing maintenance assistance as necessary.
- Provide Preventative Maintenance support for plant and equipment.
- Repair and maintain items necessary to maintain process equipment in "Grade A" condition.
- Assist in day-to-day support of operators, adjustments, setups, and change overs.
- Assist other maintenance technicians as required.
- Participate on improvement teams and coordinate with engineers and vendors on special projects.
- Shift work may be required at times.
- 'On-call' rotation is required, typically one week every 4 to 6 weeks, due to manufacturing equipment in continual 24-hour operation.
- Follow all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by Innospec and the department.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years' maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a chemical facility.
- Must obtain lockout certification and be able to wear OSHA approved safety gear.
- Advanced mechanical OR electrical skills (PLC troubleshooting skills preferred).
