Job Summary
Our Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space. Mentor: Advances the profession of nursing and the NPD specialty by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting the ongoing professional learning as individuals develop across practice, professional and educational settings.

 

Competency Management: Utilizes tools to capture knowledge, skill, ability judgment and performance during the situational or dynamic phases of practice (i.e. initial and ongoing competencies).

 

Orientation: Develops, facilitates, conducts and evaluates programs during the onboarding phase and when changes in roles, responsibilities and practice occur.

Change Agent: Works to transform processes at micro, meso and/or macro system levels.  Uses change management strategies and theories to drive desired outcomes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • BSN

  • Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience.

  •  

    At least 1 year of experience in an acute care environment or area of specialty for ambulatory/ancillary environments. 

     

  • Experience as a preceptor. 

     

  • Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date.

  •  NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire hire/transfer

  • BLS required

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Reviews OASIS assessments for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance, providing recommendations to ensure quality and reliability.

Guides staff on clinical, documentation, and utilization decisions to improve OASIS accuracy and care quality, recommending cost-effective corrections that support clinical and operational goals.

Reviews visit utilization for appropriate patient care, collaborates and consults clinicians on needed adjustments, and reports utilization concerns and financial risks to the clinical manager. Ensures timely completion of HCHB workflows and maintains a flexible schedule to support agency needs.

Collaborates to identify documentation trends, supports improvement planning, participates in quality initiatives, and helps ensure compliance and accurate data submissions across all settings.



Qualifications

Degree from an accredited educational program leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). Required

·       Conduct a thorough review of medical records, coding and clinical documentation to validate or appeal payer denials.

·       Prepare, document and submit appeals for DRG denials, ensuring appeals are well-supported with clinical evidence, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

·       Work closely with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) and Coding teams to ensure accurate DRG assignment and enhance documentation practices that support appropriate reimbursement.

·       Ensure that all DRG denial and appeal activities comply with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations, including maintaining knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines and CMS regulations.

·       Maintain accurate records of denial appeals in the designated software, including the status of appeals, timelines, and outcomes.

·       Monitor appeal deadlines to ensure timely submission of all required documentation and compliance with payer appeal windows.

·       Contribute to revenue protection efforts by successfully overturning inappropriate denials and reducing the financial impact of DRG downgrades.

·       Meet departmental performance goals, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to denial turnaround times, appeal success rates, and denial reduction targets.

·       Analyze denial patterns to identify root causes and collaborate on preventive strategies.

·       Proactively address discrepancies between payer policies, regulatory standards and internal processes to prevent future denials.

Education

·       Provide ongoing education to the coding and CDI teams regarding DRG validation, payer guidelines, and best practices to minimize future denials.

          Stays current on payer policies, regulatory changes, coding guidelines (e.g., ICD-10, DRG), and healthcare regulations that could impact denials and coding practices.

Communication

·       Collaborate with Revenue Cycle and Medical Staff teams to ensure a unified approach to denial management and appeals.

·       Serve as the primary contact with payers on DRG-related denials. Effectively communicate the clinical and coding rationale for the DRG assignment and challenge inappropriate denials.

·       Respond to department inquiries regarding claim denials, explaining the resolution process and providing updates as needed.

•                  Differentiates characteristics of wound, ostomy, continence clinical presentations and attributes accurate etiology in development of treatment plans.

•                  Serves as a consultant to provide potential solutions for complex clinical cases to improve patient care and outcomes.

•                  Establishes and coordinates multidisciplinary and comprehensive management plans.

Job Summary:

Functioning within the framework for professional nursing practice, the Invasive Cardiology Manager, responsible for the assigned units Electrophysiology Labs, Cath Labs, and Cardiac Procedural Holding, supports and assists the Director of Clinical Operations, Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI).

This position has 24-hour accountability for managing resources (human, material and financial), to ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of patient services for specific patient populations, in a defined area across the continuum. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of unit-based shared governance councils.

Reports to Director of Clinical Operations, Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI).


Responsibilities:

·        Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

·        Conducts hiring, training, directing, development and evaluation of staff.

·        Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services for the assigned unit(s).

·        Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.

·        Monitors and adheres to budget. Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.

·        Collaborate with the department Clinical Coordinators and Nursing Professional Development Department to develop programs designed to assist the staff nurse in the progression of novice to expert in the practice of nursing.

·        Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and services.

·        Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost and social impact when developing and implementing practice innovations.

·        Provides leadership and direction to nursing unit staff and has 24-hour accountability ensuring all quality, financial, and service benchmarks as well as compliance with environmental care standards are met.

·        Other Duties as assigned.

·        Reflects ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice (2015), ANA Code of Ethics (2015), and ANA Social Policy Statement (2015).
 



Qualifications

 

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

Required Credential(s):

·        Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Public Health obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.


One or more of the following:

·        Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

·        Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Red Cross obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

·        CPR certification required

·        ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred.

·        Certification in nursing administration is required within 5 years of assuming position.


Education:

For example, a strong candidate in the process of completing the educational requirement will be considered. Continued progress toward completion of the educational requirement within five years will be required.
