Duties and Responsibilities:

As a BPA, you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Being a BPA makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.

Typical assignments include:

  • Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
  • Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers of aliens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operations.
  • Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.

Qualifications:

GL-9:You qualify for the GL-9 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
  • Apprehending, physically restraining, or working with law enforcement officials to identify or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
  • Proficient in the use of firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.), and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.

If you have previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience, you may qualify at the GS-11 grade level.

GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with the authority granted by the state or government to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes, performing primary duties in an official law enforcement capacity such as:

  • Utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or contraband while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.

Conducts surgical history/physical exams, orders and interprets diagnostic/lab tests and develops plan of care. Writes prescriptions, controlled substances per Delineation of Privileges. First assists in surgery. Performs surgical procedures in the operating room under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Performs procedures in the clinic under direct or indirect supervision. The PA has synergistic relationship with the surgeon and highly technical skills increases patient safety and positive surgical outcomes. Enables the continuity of care by managing patients in the pre, intra and post operative settings. Performs inpatient rounding, consultations, wound care and bedside procedures. In the outpatient setting, manages clinics, clinic procedures, facilitates family and patient education, and participates in grand rounds. Works directly with staff, administration, patients and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in surgical practice areas. Performs on-call coverage requiring high-level decision making on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends inclusive of surgery.   • Nurse Practitioner National Certification required.
  • Obtain medical staff credentialing and privileges as needed for practice location.
  • If APRN requires hospital inpatient medical staff privileges and does not have an acute care certification, refer to BHSF Policy 701 titled Educational and training requirements to be credentialed to work in an acute care setting for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Functions as an advanced practitioner within primary care
  • Provides consultation on nursing practice and assigned patient outcome.
  • In collaboration with physician, orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Reviews all admission data within the designated time frames; determines suitability of the level of care in accordance with hospital established criteria.
  • Procures services and serves as advocate on behalf of patients, families and the hospital for scarce resources throughout the continuum of care.
  • Facilitates and provides necessary patient and family education on admission as indicated.
  • Participates in the inter-disciplinary treatment planning conferences. Provides guidance to team when doing patient care conference.
  • Demonstrates advance knowledge of the general diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and nursing care of patients on the unit.
  • Interviews patients and completes a full comprehensive medical history and physical examination within 24 hours of admission.
  • Documents all information relative to the patient's history, physical examination, assessment and treatment plan following unit policy and standards.
  • Initiates referrals & collaborates with medical staff and other health care professionals. Coordinates management of patient care.

Qualifications:

  • ARNP Current FL License, Current Basic Life Support - CPR Certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification preferred.
  • 3 years practical experience as a ARNP in Employee Health
  • ARNP - License, Masters preferred.
  • Florida License required; Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants desired; CPR Certification
  • Associate degree with PA license; Bachelor's degree in area of expertise preferred
  • Prior PA / APRN Gastroenterology experience
