Job Description

The Lean Manufacturing Changeover Specialist will own the identification, analysis, and execution of changeover improvement initiatives. You will leverage lean tools—such as process mapping, value stream mapping, root-cause analysis, fishbone diagrams, and structured experimentation—to uncover and eliminate inefficiencies.

When not directly supporting changeovers, you will investigate current cleaning practices, gain deep equipment knowledge, explore improvement opportunities, and design trials to validate enhancements. During active production changeovers, you will be on the floor partnering with operators and team leads to execute experiments, measure success, and implement approved process changes.

Key Accountabilities

Changeover Reduction Ownership

  • Identify opportunities to improve current changeover practices.
  • Determine longest-lead tasks and develop process standards.
  • Partner with team leads to optimize resource allocation.
  • Design pre-changeover preparation strategies.
  • Coach teams in treating changeovers with the same rigor as production, including scheduling, resource planning, and issue escalation.
  • Create best-practice methods for clearing longest-lead items.

Strategic Partnership

  • Collaborate with FSQ partners to determine risk rankings and cleaning requirements.
  • Build understanding across teams about why each cleaning task is performed.
  • Identify and eliminate over-cleaning where appropriate.
  • Create or update standard task flows to accelerate changeovers while maintaining safety and effectiveness.

Embrace a Learning Mindset

  • Identify pain points and investigate the underlying reasons for cleaning tasks.
  • Explore equipment, process, or tooling changes that simplify cleaning.
  • Evaluate potential capital investments and present recommendations to engineering.
  • Implement viable non-capital improvements.
  • Conduct responsible, data-backed experiments to validate new ideas.

Leverage an External Perspective

  • Benchmark cleaning and changeover practices from other sites or industries.
  • Incorporate best practices from non-traditional sources (e.g., dental cleaning tools, vehicle detailing processes, automated wash systems).
  • Adapt external insights to develop safer, faster, more effective internal cleaning methods.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering or Technical field preferred) and at least 5 years of related manufacturing experience

OR

  • High school diploma and at least 10 years of related manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing data systems (e.g., asset management, storeroom systems, quality tracking, ERP, safety/environmental systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply foundational manufacturing systems and utilize operational standards
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to coach teams, utilize standards, and apply continuous improvement principles

Impact

As a key member of LANL’s operations support team, you will ensure that secure communications, records management, and administrative processes align with federal and laboratory standards. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide daily administrative and operational support to multidisciplinary technical and project teams.
  • Prepare, route, and track controlled documentation, deliverables, and records in compliance with DOE and LANL policies, including CUI and Records Management standards.
  • Coordinate meetings, scheduling, logistics, and task tracking to meet project milestones.
  • Support version control, approval workflows, and documentation processes using LANL systems.
  • Assist with audits, readiness reviews, and validation of records to ensure operational compliance.
  • Manage inventory, order technical supplies, and support materials tracking.
  • Act as a liaison across departments to maintain communication flow and resolve support issues.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality, security awareness, and professionalism in all documentation and communication activities.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in administrative, compliance, or operational support roles in technical or regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage documentation, scheduling, and workflows involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and document control systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, FINRA, SEC, or CUI (transferable to DOE).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting DOE, NNSA, or National Laboratory environments.
  • Familiarity with LANL document systems and Records Management protocols (e.g., DOE O 243.1).
  • Knowledge of procurement coordination, inventory tracking, or materials management.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Position typically requires a bachelors degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Control Planner 2


Location: Los Alamos, NM (Onsite)

Pay Rate: $55/hr – $60/hr

Schedule: 4x10 (supporting 24/7 operations)

Duration: 12-month contract with strong possibility of extension


Position Overview

COMPA Industries is seeking an experienced Work Control Planner 2 to support operations and maintenance planning activities at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role supports the execution plan of PF-4 glovebox installation and facility operations and requires the development and coordination of detailed work packages in a highly regulated nuclear environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting DOE, nuclear, industrial, or highly regulated facility operations and will be responsible for planning and developing safe, executable work packages that support maintenance, modification, and operational activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review technical work packages, including labor, materials, time estimates, and safety requirements.
  • Prepare step-by-step work instructions and procedures for operations, maintenance, and facility modifications.
  • Plan work activities related to mechanical, electrical, chemical, or radiological systems within nuclear facilities.
  • Identify and resolve work constraints, ensuring packages are ready for safe execution.
  • Coordinate with engineers, maintenance teams, safety personnel, and project managers to support work execution.
  • Ensure planning documentation complies with LANL and DOE safety and operational standards.
  • Support work package closure activities and documentation review.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical discipline, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in work control planning, maintenance planning, or operations planning.
  • Experience developing technical work packages, procedures, or planning documentation.
  • Ability to work in high-hazard or highly regulated environments such as DOE, nuclear, defense, or industrial facilities.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting DOE or NNSA facilities.
  • Familiarity with the following systems:
  • MWP
  • Primavera P6
  • Asset Suite
  • Experience in work control, maintenance planning, or facility operations in nuclear or industrial environments.
  • PPA certification (Policy Procedure Writer) is a plus.


Work Environment & Schedule

  • 100% onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (TA-55).
  • 4/10 schedule supporting 24/7 operations including potential shift work:
  • Tue–Fri Days (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
  • Tue–Fri Nights (5:00 PM – 3:00 AM)
  • Fri–Mon Days (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
  • Fri–Mon Nights (5:00 PM – 3:00 AM)
  • On-call and overtime may be required.
