Somers Orthopedics is seeking an Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA). The PA will work under the supervision of an orthopedic surgeon to provide medical care and support to patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations of patients, including medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests, to assist in diagnosing orthopedic conditions.
- Treatment Planning: Collaborate with the orthopedic surgeon to develop treatment plans for patients, which may include recommending surgical interventions, non-surgical treatments, and rehabilitation strategies.
- Assist in Surgery: Participate in orthopedic surgeries by assisting the surgeon, performing specific tasks, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures.

- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their orthopedic conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care instructions.
- Order and Interpret Tests: Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, MRI scans, and laboratory tests, to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.

JOB SUMMARY
The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assisting physicians in conducting hospital rounds, as well as seeing patients independently for office visits. The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner works independently as well as under the guidance of the physician and reports to a Supervising Physician.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers to provide health care across the continuum of care to assigned patients.
- Performs hospital rounds of new consults and follow-up patients and assists in discharge of patients.
- Obtains patient medical, physical and psycho-social history and performs comprehensive health assessment including physical exam, based on age and history.
- Conducts non-invasive preventive screening procedures based on age and history.
- Identifies medical and health risks and needs. Updates and records changes in health status in EMR.
- Formulates the appropriate differential diagnosis based on history, physical examination and clinical findings.
- Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests and laboratory studies within protocol guidelines.
- Develops and provides a relevant patient education plan.
- Prescribes and administers appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.
- Participates in assisting and performing common minor urological procedures.
- Makes appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies.
- Determines the effectiveness of the plan of care through documentation of client care outcomes.
- Reassesses and modifies the treatment plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals
- Completes all documentation in EMR in a timely fashion. Codes patient visits accurately and appropriately.
- Participates in quality assurance review on a periodic basis, including systematic review of records and treatment plans.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Consults other departments, as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient?s needs.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Program; NYS licensed
- 1 ? 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
- This functional statement is specific to Physician Assistant within the Specialty Care Integrated Care Community (SC ICC) to perform duties as a Dermatology Physician Assistant in the outpatient setting. This is a (100%) (full-time) clinical position involving the provision of Dermatology. These services will be rendered in a thoughtful and resource effective manner consistent both with VA policies and with the highest standards of medical care. - The Dermatology PA will provide Dermatology consultation services and follow up care of Dermatology patients in the outpatient setting at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System.
- The Dermatology PA will be expected to collaborate with the Dermatology Physician(s) in the Dermatology department to discuss challenging procedural, diagnostic and/or therapeutic scenarios as needed.
- The Dermatology PA shall refer recognized medical problems beyond the specialized scope of the PA to the supervising physician or appropriate specialty service for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
- The Dermatology PA may be asked to travel between Montrose and Castle Point Campus and to Community Based Outpatient Clinics as requested/assigned by the ACOS-SC.
- The Dermatology PA may be tasked by the ACOS-SC to participate in facility Committees where subject matter expert knowledge of Dermatology may be beneficial.
- The Dermatology PA will provide Electronic Consultation services (E-Consults) and reviews consults for determination if appropriate for Care in the Community of local/regional VA services.
- The Dermatology Physician Assistant may need to act as surrogates for the patients of their colleagues, when one or more of their colleagues are on leave.
- The Dermatology PA will follow departmental and VHA policies for leave and attendance and will work within Title 38 appointment guidelines.
- The Dermatology PA may be required to direct care coordination between numerous hospital services including General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Liver Clinic, Primary Care, Women's Clinic and Palliative Care during the care of their patients in the Dermatology department.
- The Dermatology PA will Provide education and counseling for patients regarding medical conditions, health status and the use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
- The Dermatology PA will complete clinical documentation in all areas in accordance with facility policy. Prohibited abbreviations shall not to be used.
- The Dermatology PA will complete all administrative workin accordance with facility policy and assigned deadlines.
- Quality of care should be able to meet professional standards at all times.
- The Dermatology PA will work within their privileges at all times, unless necessitated by an emergency.
Experience
- Physician Assistant Basic Requirements
- Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
- Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
