Job Description:

About Berklee NYC

Berklee NYC represents a bold and successful extension of Berklee's educational and creative vision into the heart of New York City's cultural landscape. Founded through a public-private-nonprofit partnership with the City of New York and a private donor, Berklee NYC's Power Station Studios reopened in 2021-renewing a historic center of music production for both students and industry professionals.

Berklee NYC and Power Station at Berklee NYC represent a distinctive model of education and professional practice in the heart of New York City. Since launching its Master of Arts in Creative Media and Technology, the campus has established itself as a dynamic nexus of education, industry engagement, and community, preparing creative professionals to lead across music, production, and emerging technologies.

The campus has experienced significant growth, including a 54% increase in graduating students over two years, with alumni securing influential industry roles, earning grants, and launching new work. At the same time, Power Station serves as a vital contributor to New York City's creative economy, supporting a wide range of artists, producers, ensembles, and media partners across commercial, independent, and institutional sectors.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement, with a dotted line to the Executive Director of Berklee NYC, the Director will serve as the chief fundraiser for the NYC site.

This is a New York City based position. While this role requires an entrepreneurial spirit to build a local program from the ground up, the Director will have full access to the robust resources and infrastructure of the central Berklee Institutional Advancement office in Boston (including prospect research, advancement operations, and stewardship teams) to ensure success.

The Director will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors to fuel the strategic growth of Berklee's New York City presence. In addition to direct fundraising, the Director will play a critical role in establishing a new, impactful Advisory Board and leveraging the world-class Power Station facilities and an experienced studio team to create meaningful donor engagement experiences.

  • Drive philanthropic revenue growth to support scholarships, capital improvements, and programmatic expansion at Berklee NYC.

2. Strategic Partnership & Resource Utilization

  • Partner closely with the newly appointed Executive Director of Berklee NYC to translate the campus's strategic vision into compelling funding opportunities.

  • Leverage the centralized resources of the Boston Institutional Advancement office-collaborating with prospect research, gift processing, and donor relations teams-to maximize fundraising efficiency in New York.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Boston-based Institutional Advancement team and the NYC campus, ensuring alignment with broader institutional goals while advocating for NYC-specific priorities.

3. Advisory Board Development

  • Lead the planning and recruitment of a new Berklee NYC Advisory Board.

  • Work with Berklee leadership to identify high-net-worth individuals and industry leaders who can provide financial support, strategic guidance, and industry connections.

4. Donor Engagement & Events

  • Leverage the unique history and capabilities of Power Station to design and implement exclusive donor engagement experiences (e.g., studio sessions, listening parties, alumni and industry showcases).

  • Create a "culture of philanthropy" at the NYC site, engaging the local alumni network, in collaboration with Boston-based Alumni Affairs staff, and industry partners in the life of the college.

Qualifications

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Experience: 7-10 years of professional fundraising experience, with a specific track record of success in major and principal gifts.

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Proven ability to work independently and build new initiatives from scratch; comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving results in a "start-up" environment within a larger institution.

Faculty Opportunities – Math & Problem Solving (Bright and Talented Students)

Location: Manhattan, NYC | Expansion 2026

About Brain Power

Brain Power Enrichment is a pioneer in intellectual enrichment for bright and talented young minds. For more than 30 years, we have built a reputation as one of the most rigorous and inspiring after-school programs for gifted students. Our world-class faculty come from leading institutions across the globe, and our alumni regularly go on to Ivy League and other top-tier universities.

Headquartered in Canada, where we serve thousands of students each year, Brain Power also offers virtual programs worldwide. Now, we are bringing our award-winning model to the United States with our first Manhattan campus opening in April 2026 in Gramercy Park.

The Role

We are seeking exceptional part-time faculty members in Mathematics, with a particular focus at this time on Grades 1-5. Classes are scheduled to run Monday 5pm-7pm in April-June 2026 and Tuesday and Wednesday 5pm-9pm September 2026-June 2027.

This is not a typical teaching role. At Brain Power, you will lead seminar-style classes of 6–12 highly motivated, gifted students. Our pedagogy is rooted in Socratic dialogue—teachers guide students through rigorous discussions, probing questions, and challenging ideas that inspire critical thinking, creativity, and leadership.

All materials are provided, developed and tested over decades of practice. Yet we know the true magic happens when faculty bring their own creativity, intellectual flair, and research interests into the classroom.

Classes meet once per week for two hours across the academic year (34 weeks). This flexible, freelance role allows you to make a profound impact while maintaining your academic, professional, or creative pursuits.

Why Join Brain Power?

  • Prestige & Purpose: Mentor the next generation of global leaders. Our alumni regularly matriculate at Ivy League and elite universities, with faculty playing a central role in that journey.
  • Socratic Pedagogy: Teach in a style that mirrors the intellectual rigor of top universities—small, seminar-style classes focused on dialogue and discovery.
  • Intellectual Community: Join a peer group of scholars, researchers, and advanced degree holders who bring a university-level culture to our program.
  • Innovation Sandbox: While materials are provided, faculty are encouraged to bring their own ideas, workshops, and intellectual passions to the classroom.
  • Small Class Sizes: 6–12 students per class ensures meaningful mentorship and engagement.
  • Flexibility: Evening and weekend classes allow you to balance this role with research, graduate study, or professional practice.
  • Competitive Compensation: Pay is commensurate with your experience and the transformative educational experiences you provide.

Ideal Candidate

  • Educational Background: At the current time we are focused on PhD candidates for our NYC team. Candidates for this particular role must be working on a PhD or complete (we do recruit for other expert level roles, that are currently filled)
  • Distinctive Edge: Candidates with unique research interests, Ivy League or other top-tier academic backgrounds, or a proven “X factor” will be particularly well-suited to our environment.
  • Mindset: Passion for ideas, commitment to rigorous intellectual engagement, and the ability to inspire bright young learners.
  • Experience: Teaching certification is welcome but not required. Prior experience with gifted or advanced students is an asset.
  • Location: Reliable commute to Manhattan, NYC.

How to Apply

If you are ready to bring your intellect, passion, and leadership to the classroom, and to shape the future of gifted students in New York City, we would love to meet you.
