The ACHD Program Physician Director will provide clinical, administrative and strategic leadership for Akron Children's ACDH program by ensuring high – quality, guideline -directed care for adults with congenital heart disease, facilitates seamless transition from pediatric to adult services, and strengthens collaborative care pathways with adult cardiology, cardiac surgery, obstetrics, anesthesia, and other specialties.

The role combines direct patient care (inpatient and outpatient), program oversight, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and growth strategy aligned with institutional goals.

Our team includes 16 pediatric cardiologists, 7 advanced practice providers and 2 cardiothoracic surgeons who provide a complete spectrum of coordinated, compassionate, cardiac care to over 10,000 patients annually.

Services include advanced diagnostics, complex surgical procedures, an adult congenital heart disease program, a fetal imaging program and a cardiac MRI program.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree

  • Board certification in Pediatric Cardiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease

  • ACHD board eligibility or certification

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the state

  • Demonstrated experience caring for adult congenital heart disease patients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACHD board certification

  • Experience in program building or leadership

We are seeking a BC/BE pediatric hematologist/oncologist who will also serve as a clinical faculty member at the assistant/associate professor level. The ideal candidate for this position has a clinical focus and experience in caring for children and adolescents undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This physician will have a minimum 50% of his/her clinical time dedicated to bone marrow transplant. The allocation of this person's professional time will be 50% clinical transplant, 30% clinical hematology and/or oncology depending on candidate's interest, and 20% for non-clinical responsibilities.

Akron Children's Hospital is a teaching hospital with an AGMCE accredited Hematology/Oncology fellowship training program and a medical school affiliation with Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Programs at the Akron Children's Hospital Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders include hematology, oncology, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, a state-funded sickle cell program and regional hemostasis and thrombosis center. Hematology/oncology care is provided at our hospital in Akron, our Beeghly campus in Boardman, Ohio, and three satellite clinics throughout the region. The Hematology/Oncology team is currently comprised of eleven faculty members, seventeen advanced practice providers and fellows.

Each year the center cares for approximately 90 new oncology patients, 15 stem cell/marrow transplant patients, 160 sickle cell patients and 540 bleeding disorder patients. The staff also provides care during 12,000 patient encounters annually. Akron Children's Hospital is a member of the Children's Oncology Group, house a pediatric transplant center approved by the National Marrow Donor Program, and is one of only 9 pediatric cancer centers in the country verified by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Pediatric Cancer Hospital.

The Ob/Gyn Hospitalist and Teaching Faculty of the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center is responsible for the overall supervision of care in the Obstetric Emergency Department, Labor and Delivery, and perinatal safety throughout the hospital as Ob/Gyn providers. The hospitalist will respond to and assist in Ob/Gyn emergencies throughout CCAG. The hospitalist will assume primary responsibility of admissions from Women’s Health Clinic service (resident clinic) as well as unregistered or walk-in patients. The hospitalist will support all established obstetrical practices with care of their inpatients and provide emergency care until a patient’s private attending physician is present at the bedside. They also will work in conjunction with the Maternal Fetal Medicine service to evaluate and manage hospital transfers and provide backup as needed for family medicine services. The hospitalists will also provides OB/GYN consultations throughout the hospital.

The position balances clinical and academic responsibilities, including supervision of OB/GYN residents and medical students. Faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience is available at the Northeastern Ohio Medical University.

The typical Ob/Gyn Hospitalists will be on duty 36-48 hours per week, comprised of 12 to 24 hour shifts to provide continuous coverage with other providers. Flexible employment options will be considered, ie. nocturnist, part-time. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and National Data for OB/GYN Hospitalists.

Summary:

Summary:

The Mental Health Therapist I apply graduate-level counseling skills/social work under the direct supervision of an independently licensed staff member as stipulated by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. The duties performed include the psychosocial assessment of individuals, adolescents, families, and groups and the provision of graduate-level clinical social work/counseling interventions as appropriate to client needs in the context of the department. This position will complete the 3,000 hours of supervised clinical work required by the state licensure board to obtain the clinical endorsement required to practice independently.
Responsibilities:

* Conducts initial comprehensive patient and family psychosocial assessment, and triages care accordingly.
* Communicates with staff regarding assessment, treatment/interventions and interdisciplinary care plan through documentation and meetings such as patient rounds.
* Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide competent care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
* Provides case management for assigned patients that involves consultation and collaboration with hospital and community professionals and programs in order to provide the most appropriate and comprehensive care.
* Consistent use of evidence-based trauma and risk assessment tools and application of crisis intervention skills when indicated, and determine formally the need for a referral to the Emergency Department or more suitable community agency.
* Ethical and timely completion of documentation as expected in the context of the department.

Outpatient Add On:

* Complete Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions in addition to other clinical evidence-based treatment modalities to assist patient and families in the completion of their individualized service plans.

PHP/IOP Add On:

* Use of CBT and DBT (Dialectical Based Therapy) intervention through individual, group, and family therapy, to support client in achieving therapeutic goals.

PIRC Add On:

* Works in a fast-paced environment conducting risk assessments and using crisis intervention skills as needed.
* Triage and assess intake calls received from families and community referral sources. Conducts preliminary diagnostic assessment over telephone to assess the need for services for children and adolescents seeking psychiatric and psychological services.
* Conducts comprehensive risk assessment either face to face in the ED or through telehealth to maximize continuity of care with the family.
* Engages in consultation and collaboration with hospital and community professionals and programs in order to develop and communicate a crisis treatment plan for patients and families and provides recommendations for follow-up.

Substance Use Add On:

* Use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy intervention as well as other evidence-based practices, such as Motivational Interviewing.
* Involve family in therapy sessions and provide behavior modification techniques as clinically indicated.
