Join a Team with HeartStep into a unit where teamwork, compassion, and advanced clinical skills come together to deliver exceptional patient care. Our Intermediate Critical Care Unit (ICCU) specializes in caring for medically complex patients who require a higher level of monitoring than the acute care setting, while remaining stable enough to avoid ICU admission. Nurses on this team care for a diverse patient population and gain valuable experience managing both critical and step-down level needs.
You’ll gain hands-on experience with:• Caring for patients with DKA, sepsis, tracheostomies, stable ventilators, BiPAP/high-flow therapy, and post-surgical ENT
• Administering and titrating IV therapies, including insulin, heparin, cardiac drips, and limited vasopressors
• Managing complex patients who require close observation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and transitional care planning
• Supporting patients recovering from advanced medical and surgical interventions
• Providing patient and family education to promote recovery, self-care, and long-term health
• Specialized patient population offering a strong mix of cardiac, medical, and post-surgical cases
• Exposure to advanced therapies and monitoring without full ICU acuity
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration with critical care, respiratory therapy, and surgical teams
• 24/7 leadership support and dedicated resources to ensure safe, high-quality care
• A team culture that values adaptability, professional growth, teamwork, and resilience
If you’re ready to grow your skills in a high-acuity environment that bridges acute care and ICU, our ICCU team is the place to be.
