Job Title: Operations Supervisor– Solar Site

Location: Kitzmiller, MD

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $40–$45/hour (flexibility available based on experience)


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Operations Supervisor to provide technical leadership and operational support at a power generation facility in Kitzmiller, MD. This role reports directly to the Operations Manager and plays a key part in ensuring maintenance excellence, team performance, safety compliance, and optimal facility output.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned Senior or Lead Technician ready to step into a broader leadership role while remaining actively engaged in advanced troubleshooting and field operations.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership (50%)

  • Lead and oversee daily maintenance and repair work plans, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and to performance standards.
  • Serve as the primary technical expert for complex troubleshooting and advanced repairs.
  • Support and mentor field technicians, coaching less experienced team members to elevate team performance.
  • Assist with quality control assessments and verify proper execution of maintenance activities.
  • Lead and support high-voltage operations and switching at substations.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on generating assets, including Balance of Plant (BOP) and SCADA communication systems.
  • Conduct substation inspections and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure strong communication between field technicians and the Operations Manager.


Operational Management Support (40%)

  • Support planning and resource allocation to maximize facility output while controlling costs.
  • Reevaluate maintenance priorities to align with operational goals.
  • Manage inventory, including spare parts research and specialty tool procurement.
  • Assist with management reporting, work requests, and transactional system entries.
  • Support site-wide safety initiatives, conduct safety walks, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational KPIs.
  • Serve as backup to the Operations Manager when needed.


Additional Duties (10%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support site success.


Supervision

  • Provide technical oversight to frontline operations staff.
  • Support oversight of external contractors performing site work.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Senior Technician, or
  • Minimum 3 years in a Lead Technician or comparable leadership role.


Skills & Competencies

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to meet company motor vehicle requirements.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and repair expertise.
  • Strong understanding of site performance metrics and operational KPIs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings related to renewable energy technologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Strong communication and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude.


Physical Requirements

The role requires the ability to:

  • Stand, climb, reach, handle tools, and perform hands-on technical tasks regularly.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Work at heights, including climbing towers and accessing elevated equipment such as nacelles and hubs (when applicable).
  • Work in mechanical and industrial environments.
  • Operate company field vehicles on-site and on public roads.
  • Maintain strong attendance and professional work habits in a structured environment.
