Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a 1st Class Outside Machinist to support operations in our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description:
- Disassembles various types of equipment and machinery common to maritime vessels and/or general industry including but not limited to pumps, valves, winches, gear boxes.
- Assists in determining repairs and required to bring equipment to rebuilt status.
- Setup and operation of drill presses.
- Applies knowledge of materials including but not limited to bronze, brass, steel (mild and heat-treated), and stainless steels in fabrication and repairs.
- Responsible for the application and care of all standard shop measuring and hand tools.
- Properly cares for and safely uses hand and power tools and all company property.
- Works with other crafts as needed.
- Overhaul, maintenance, testing of pumps, valves, turbines, condensers, shafts, rudders, winches.
- Lays out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections, such as shafting and steam lines.
- Installs below deck auxiliaries, such as evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers and connects them to steam pipe systems.
- Remove, repair, modify or overhaul various types of marine shipboard equipment and system such as valves, pumps, hydraulics, turbines, reduction gears, generators, anchor windlass and steering gears.
- Set up and operate portable machining tools and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair a variety of mechanical equipment may include ANSI pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, extruders, mixers, agitators, and blenders.
Qualifications:
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least seven (7) years' experience as a Marine Outside Machinist.
- Must be able to dissemble, repair, and install various types of equipment and machinery such as pumps, valves, winches, and gear boxes.
- Must be capable of reading and interpreting blueprints and schematic drawings.
- Must have own tools.
- Must be able to apply basic machine shop math.
- Must have the ability to work at heights, in confined spaces and observe ships working protocol.

Physical Requirements:

JOB TITLE: Quality Control Inspector
JOB CODE: Quality Control
REPORTS TO: Quality Assurance Manager. Direct on-site project direction and daily scheduling provided through continuous communication with the applicable IMIA Project Manager and/or Supervisor.
Summary of position: Responsible for monitoring quality control/assurance requirements of all preservation preformed onboard commercial and US Navy vessel in accordance with established Navy regulations and industry standards or specific contractual requirements as defined in the Scope of Work. Collaborate with customer QA personnel on necessary aspects of the job.
Essential Job Requirements: Produce/create electronic/handwritten Quality Assurance documentation as Objective Quality Evidence for work performed throughout the preservation process. Develop and Maintain Test and Inspection Plan (TIP) for all assigned jobs. Monitor and document all required readings with regard to, but not limited to, metal anchor tooth (profile), paint wet/dry film thickness (DFT), steel temperatures and all required environmental readings using appropriate equipment to include: micrometer, dry film thickness gauge, infrared thermometer, psychomotor. Ensure all assigned equipment is maintained in good working order with within all calibration certification intervals. All of the above requirements shall be completed in a safe and efficient manner so as not to cause injury to self or others.
Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Required Certification: NACE Inspector and/or SSPC NBPI required.
Required Experience: Formal or informal on-the-job training in the marine industry; familiarity with Navy and Society for Protective Coatings standards.
Required Skills: Must possess knowledge of Maritime paintings standards with particular emphasis in US Navy ship preservation criterion. Word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database computer skills required. Must be able to accomplish mathematical calculations associated with preservation readings and documentation; must be able to discern and carry out complex written, oral, or diagramed instructions. Must be able to take direction; interact professionally, knowledgeably and cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers and customer representatives.
Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable of working an 8-10 hour day requires average use of computer, some physical dexterity, and agility within confined and restricted spaces & tanks.

Summary: Shipfitters are responsible for the layout, fabrication and installation of structural parts such as plates, bulkheads and frames. Shipfitters brace structures in position for welding. Shipfitters prepare templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Fabricate templates for bending / shaping ship structures, frames, bulkheads and braces.
- Measures, lays out and cuts templates.
- Fits foundations and structural members using bar, strip, angle and plate and scribes. foundations to deck and bulkhead structure.
- Complete pre and post weld checks.
- Performs chipping, beveling, grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded using power and hand tools.
- Proficient in oxyacetylene and plasma cutting.
- Perform housekeeping efforts to maintain cleanliness of the worksite.
- Delivering materials as required.
- Perform duties as Fire Watch.
- Participates in special projects as required.
- Employees may be required to travel for work to other locations.

- Proven ability to effectively mentor and supervise paralegals and support staff
