Akerman LLP seeks a Conflicts Counsel to assist the firm's General Counsel's Office with conflict of interest and risk management matters. The Conflicts Counsel is responsible for daily review, analysis and resolution of conflicts and other issues related to firm acceptance of new clients and new matters, as well as interface with the firm’s General Counsel and attorneys regarding approval of new clients and matters. Responsibilities include the analysis of conflict of interest reports for all new firm representations to identify potential conflict problems, resolution of conflict of interest issues (including drafting necessary waivers and other documents) related to new clients and new matters, review of client outside counsel guidelines and assisting with assessment of firm’s ability to comply. The Conflicts Counsel will handle additional assignments from the firm’s General Counsel’s office and firm administration, as needed.

The position requires a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and bar membership, as well as 3+ years of practice experience as a lawyer in a mid to large-sized law firm. Qualified candidates must possess basic knowledge of conflict-of-interest principles under professional responsibility rules, and have excellent analytical, organizational and written and oral communication skills. Experience in the area of conflict of interest law and/or professional responsibility is preferred. Candidates must have availability to handle urgent and confidential matters and situations, including nights and weekends, as needed. This position can be resident in any of the firm’s office locations. Hybrid and remote work arrangements are available. This position will work solely with the General Counsel’s Office on firm internal matters.

Position Highlights:

• The Clinical Documentation (CDI) Specialist Senior is a responsible for facilitating the improvement in the overall quality and completeness of provider-based clinical documentation in the medical record by working directly with providers. This position is responsible for assisting treating providers to ensure that documentation in the medical record accurately reflects the severity of illness, risk of mortality, complexity of patient care, and hierarchal condition categories of the patient.
• The Clinical Documentation Specialist Senior assesses clinical documentation through extensive medical record review, deployment of artificial intelligence, and collaborating directly with the providers to clarify the documentation to accurately and completely reflect the patients’ medical conditions. Extensive collaboration with physicians, mid-levels, nursing staff, other patient care givers to include developing and delivering education, which will be accomplished with on-site meetings, zoom meetings, telephonic discussions, rounding and email. This position will collaborate with the Health Information Management (HIM) coding staff and the Educators to ensure that appropriate reimbursement is received for the level of services rendered to patients, clinical information utilized in profiling and reporting outcomes is complete and accurate.
• Additionally, the Clinical Documentation Specialist Senior is expected to function as a subject matter expert on the team and assist less experience team members in understanding and following operational policies. This role is responsible for training and onboarding new team members and participating in special projects assigned by the Mid Revenue Cycle leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Reviews medical records for quality, completeness, and accuracy of documentation. Ensures that coded diagnoses accurately reflect level of patient care and patient status, including severity of illness and risk of mortality. Identifies gaps in documentation as well as conflicting or unspecified diagnoses and clarifies diagnoses with providers to assign the most accurate ICD 10CM/PCS code from the documentation. Must meet and maintain the quality and productivity measures established per polices.
• Delivers ongoing education to providers through collaboration and communication via on-site meetings, zoom meetings, telephonic discussions, rounding, and email. Provides supplemental educational material and tools relative to documentation improvement practices for individual practitioners and groups of clinicians.
• Identify and share documentation improvement opportunities with providers to capture the patient's accurate severity of illness and risk of mortality, comorbid conditions, and all other condition categories.
• Develop clear, concise and compliant written and verbal queries to providers, seeking clarification on unclear, incomplete, or non specified documentation. Utilizes software system and the Natural Language Processor (NLP) to review, compile clinical indicators for provider collaboration, code, collect, track, and report outcomes accurately and timely.
• Key Performance Indicators and additional significant metrics will be reported and discussed regularly, and as needed to the Medical Executive Committee via presentation to the Medical Records Committee and with other committees as directed
• The Senior is expected to function as a subject matter expert on the team and assist less experience team members on following operational policies. It is responsible for training and onboarding new team members and participating in special projects assigned by the Mid Revenue Cycle leadership.

Credentials and Experience:

• Associate’s Degree – field of study: Nursing, HIM or another Healthcare related field
• A minimum six (6) years acute care clinical documentation experience
• ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding and query process knowledge
• Ability to recognize opportunities for documentation improvement, and hold collaborative discussions with providers to address the opportunities in documentation.
• Proficient in computer skills including: MS Office, Optum 360 eCAC, Cerner HER

Research Support Services Coordinator I

The mission of Research Support Services (RSS) is to ensure research faculty have the equipment, space and logistics resources they need to be successful. A Research Support Services Coordinator I is primarily a research staff facing position, responsible for coordinating research support services related to research space, common equipment, ultra-low temperature storage units and participate during emergencies (i.e. Hurricanes).

The position will initially be based in the Research Support Services Department at our Magnolia Campus. Ultimately, the position will be located at Moffitt at Speros in Land O’Lakes, FL once the facility opens mid-July 2026.

Position Highlights:

• Provides customer service and support for research faculty, staff and vendors with guidance from the supervisor/manager
• Support research space activities by following lab modification SOPs for expansion, compression, start up and shut down of labs under the direction of the supervisor/manager
• Familiar with the operation, function and troubleshooting of a wide range of basic science research equipment while ensuring maintenance meets research and industry standards for safety
• Supports cold storage activities for off-site freezer storage, faculty labs, shared resources and responds to alarm monitoring system
• Supports special project assignments related to supporting Moffitt Research Institute wide research initiatives such as large-scale freezer clean outs, 5S efforts, CCSG reporting, space use survey, etc.
• Serves as an “essential on-site personnel” during emergencies and coverage in the on-call schedule as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Highly skilled in executing and properly conducting research in an academic setting
• A critical thinker that can piece together potential issues and think about resolutions ahead of time for the staff and faculty
• Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate with technical customers at all levels both internally and externally
• An individual that has experience with lab bench Research, particularly in the basic lab setting
• A team player who enjoys a collaborative, team-based environment
• An individual that has high emotional intelligence
• Two (2) years of working in a biology or Chemistry Research Laboratory preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Develop strong relationships with internal and external customers and facilitate clear communication
• Contributes to development of workflows relating to lab research activation, lab start up, support for research labs, and being on call
• Support RSS supervisor/manager in maintaining research equipment across multiple campuses and minimizing downtime while continuing to maintain the equipment

Credentials and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or Biomedical field of study with 1 year as a Research Associate or equivalent support services experience or 2 years of laboratory experience is required.
• Familiar with function and operation of basic Lab Equipment, Lab Safety and Good Laboratory Practices.
• Multi-tasks and keeps excellent records.
• Must have good organizational and communication skills and careful attention to details.
• Must have ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple work assignments.
