Primary Responsibilities:

  • Patient Management:
    • Active care and monitoring of patients in L&D, antepartum, postpartum, and OBED units
    • Managing and evaluating all unassigned OB and gynecology patients presenting for acute or emergent issues
    • Assuming care for unassigned patients from admission to discharge
    • Supporting high-risk deliveries, including TOLAC cases, in collaboration with assigned community physicians
  • Emergency Response & Surgical Support:
    • Provide emergency obstetric and gynecological support across units until the primary physician arrives
    • Surgical first-assist during C-sections as needed
    • Participate in massive transfusion protocol for obstetric emergencies
  • Transport Coordination:
    • Coordinate transport for critically ill OB patients as necessary
    • Engage in multidisciplinary communication for patient transfers between facilities
  • Quality and Compliance:
    • Documentation in electronic medical records to ensure regulatory compliance
    • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and accreditations (TJC, CMS)
    • Engage in safety and operational efficiency improvements alongside nursing and administrative staff
  • Patient Care and Consultation:
    • Provide consultative support across hospital departments for obstetric cases as needed
    • Evaluate and manage cases involving opioid use disorder in coordination with local providers

Professional Conduct and Communication:

  • Foster effective working relationships with hospitalist team members, nurses, and support staff
