Assists with treatments and procedures and carries out selected interventions within the framework of the care plan. Performs additional duties related to clinic operations including Hyperbaric Chamber Operation with appropriate on-site training and competency.

Job Description

 Job Summary


The Assistant Nursing manager is a Registered Nurse (RN) who has responsibility for the supervision of patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations. This position supervises a work group to ensure that a high quality, cost-effective patient and family centered care is provided in support of the hospital's strategic plan, and the function's goals and objectives. 


This position works collaboratively with functional leadership and is responsible for the oversight of daily operations of the assigned department including off shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non-licensed staff. This position manages resources, quality improvement, payroll, creating and maintaining colleague schedules and monitors patient throughput to facilitate efficient clinical operations. In addition, this position is responsible for a safe and therapeutic unit environment, which includes working in the department as staff RN to assist as needed.


This position supports leadership in ensuring standards of excellence and professional development are fostered and met. This position also participates in and may lead Performance Improvement work in their assigned department.



Qualifications

Education

·         Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Existing incumbents as of March 1, 2024 must obtain BSN within 3 years of this date


 

Experience

2 years of acute care nursing experience required

5 year Critical Care experience required, Management roles preferred.

3-5 year leadership experience required.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

·         Registered Nurse, State of CT

·         Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) provider credentialed form the American Heart Association (AHA)

·         Other certifications may be required by specialty

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements 

·         Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing and healthcare administration

·         Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical assessments and institute safe and effective care within the structure of a collaborative health team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Reviews OASIS assessments for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance, providing recommendations to ensure quality and reliability.

Guides staff on clinical, documentation, and utilization decisions to improve OASIS accuracy and care quality, recommending cost-effective corrections that support clinical and operational goals.

Reviews visit utilization for appropriate patient care, collaborates and consults clinicians on needed adjustments, and reports utilization concerns and financial risks to the clinical manager. Ensures timely completion of HCHB workflows and maintains a flexible schedule to support agency needs.

Collaborates to identify documentation trends, supports improvement planning, participates in quality initiatives, and helps ensure compliance and accurate data submissions across all settings.



Qualifications

Degree from an accredited educational program leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). Required

Bachelor's degree in nursing, master's degree in PT, OT, SLP preferred 

2 years in certified home health clinical required.  3 years in verified home health preferred. OASIS Certificate and/or Quality/Compliance Certificate preferred. Homecare Homebase experience preferred.

The Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are part of a multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for critical neuroscience patients with a focus on those with neurological and neurosurgical diseases and related disorders. Our critical patient population includes complex strokes, skull base surgery, status epilepticus, tumor resections, spinal cord injury, DBS, and other complex diseases. The APPs rotate in the intensive care unit and stepdown units.

Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistants Role Scope:


Under established guidelines and in collaboration and/or supervision with the practice physician(s), Advanced Practitioners perform routine physical examinations, and formulate medical, educational, and psychosocial plans to treat patients.


In consultation with the physician(s) and care team members, Advanced Practitioners develop plans for further evaluation of health needs, e.g., referral to other health team members or specialists.


Advanced Practitioners provide appropriate treatment for problems within the scope of the provider’s practice as designated by protocols and identifies problems outside of their scope of practice and refers appropriately to physician.
