Job Description

The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees. It includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 102-bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns.
This is a nurse residency position that upon hire or transfer into the program the nurse commits to a full time learning opportunity. This program prepares the nurse for an operating room staff nurse position as well as forms the foundation required to successfully take pass the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) certification program. The program commences with a six month AORN, Periop 101 on line didactic program consisting of 27 modules, followed by a 3-5 month clinical orientation. The nurse will be assigned to a nurse educator and preceptor and earn 41.7 CEUs for completion of the online program. Upon completion the nurse will be offered a full time position at either Manchester Memorial Hospital or Rockville General Hospital. A commitment to the Operating Room will be required for two years.
The candidate must be willing to undergo a rigorous application process that consists of surgeon, manager, nursing education and staff interviews, observation day and letters of recommendation. The candidate must be willing to take and pass the Certified Registered Operating Nurse (CNOR) certification exam within six months from residency completion.
Utilizing the nursing process, provides high quality direct and indirect patient –centered care. Coordinates patient care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, patients and families. Communicates, as appropriate, the patient’s clinical condition, responding quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Promotes the profession of nursing and professional practice through collegial support and interactions. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

The Surgical-Trauma Intensive Care Unit is a 14-bed unit. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, the mainstream patient population includes motor vehicle trauma, orthopedic injuries, vascular surgical, abdominal surgical, liver and kidney transplant, and extensive esophagectomy patients. Under the supervision of the rounding Surgical-Trauma Intensivist, the unit has a team of Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses and surgical house staff physicians consisting of interns and residents.
Job Summary
The Nursing Manager is a Registered Nurse (RN) who has responsibility for the supervision of patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations. This position supervises a work group to ensure that a high quality, cost-effective patient and family centered care is provided in support of the hospital's strategic plan, and the function's goals and objectives.
This position works collaboratively with functional leadership and is responsible for the oversight of daily operations of the assigned department including off shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non-licensed staff. This position manages resources, quality improvement, payroll, creating and maintaining colleague schedules and monitors patient throughput to facilitate efficient clinical operations. In addition, this position is responsible for a safe and therapeutic unit environment, which includes working in the department as staff RN to assist as needed.
This position supports leadership in ensuring standards of excellence and professional development are fostered and met. This position also participates in and may lead Performance Improvement work in their assigned department.

Job Summary
Our Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, policies and procedures of the hospital and as directed by the medical staff. The registered nurse who through knowledge and ability uses the nursing process to develop a plan of care which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the patient and family.
This role is eligible for enrollment in the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Neuroscience Nurse Developmental Fellowship program. Upon completion of certain milestones, Graduate Nurses are eligible to earn up to an additional $10,000 bonus, while experiences nurses can earn up to an additional $5,000.
North 11 is a surgical unit with private rooms, is comprised of Neurosurgical and Trauma patients. There is room for growth and development, as nurses are eventually cross trained into the Center 11 an epilepsy unit. The nurses on North 11 are also Stroke Certified.

- ASN Required (Must obtain a BSN within 6 years of starting in the RN role)

JOB SUMMARY
The RN Clinical Services Lead is part of the leadership team and recognized as a clinical expert in one or more functional areas, providing leadership, knowledge, experience and research expertise to the team.
This position leads or directs the work to ensure the overall movement of patients throughout the unit is managed in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with regulatory guidelines, policies and procedures. This position also facilitates solutions for challenging patient care situations and collaborates with the unit manager and educator to monitor and maintain staff performance and outcomes. In addition, this position supports team members in alignment with HHC’s vision, core values and leadership behaviors.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Nursing; Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred
- 2 years of acute care nursing experience required; 1 year of acute care charge or preceptor experience preferred. Prior experience Emergency Department (ED) and/or Critical Care Unit (CCU) highly preferred.
- Active Registered Nurse license from the State of Connecticut required
- BLS required
- Other certifications may be required in specific specialties

Job Description
Under provider direction, the RN provides skilled nursing care to patients in a variety of clinical settings. Scope of responsibility is characterized by use of nursing process to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate human responses to actual or potential health problems utilizing appropriate practices, standards, protocols and guidelines. This position reports to a Practice Manager.
• Provides office-based nursing care in collaboration with provider
• Assesses physical and psychosocial needs and environmental factors affecting patients and their families, formulates nursing plan of care and ensures continuity of patient care through appropriate nursing evaluation and intervention
• Demonstrates independent nursing actions based on assessment and problem identification
• Triages telephone calls and displays ability to initiate appropriate nursing intervention in prompt, precise, and professional manner
